Currently, NWBO's Sawston plant is the only visible global hub for DC VAX L manufacturing and distribution (MHRA MIA approval 3/20/23) . For $400 , FED EX (https://www.fedex.com/en-us/custom-critical.html) ships anywhere globally within the required timeframes.A SAGE (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/20363613231179541) 5/26/23 scientific publication demonstrates intent by Pakistani neurosurgeons to treat and cure their GBM patients. Looks like the DC VAX L JAMA paper and LIAU- Bosch presentations since 10/26/22 have created global awareness that DCVAX L will be is a major global cell based biotech therapy, addressing GBM , and all solid tumors( https://conferences.asco.org/am/industry-expert-theater).
With 50% of LIAU-SPORE-UCLA combo patents living 10 years, DC VAX L has turned SOC's GBM treatment from a terminal (16.5) months disease into a chronic treatable malignancy .
Dr. Greg Zivic:
"This treatment can turn a Glioblastoma into a chronic treatable disease even after recurrence of the tumor . "

Post# 593185 of 593185 I am definitely not a biotech expert and what I've learned about Northwest and DCVax-l was shared with me by one of the legends in the biotech world !!! My biggest takeaway is this:
From 2018 forward, it became apparent that DCVax-L was a breakthrough, technological process for the treatment of nGBM and rGBM, but its true potential was only known by a "handful" of experts, and as such, the understanding of the broader market implications was a relative unknown. Early on, several of the comments that I heard from BP were," The GBM market is really not that big!" and " Personalized, Immunotherapy vaccines are not really in our 'Wheelhouse'. We sell compounds/pills!!" On and on! The comments didn't mean that BP wasn't paying attention! Quite the contrary, BP was watching like a hawk as results from Dr. Liau and the UCLA trials began to leak into the medical community suggesting a broader application of DCVax-L on a "stand alone" basis and in combination with CI's for all large tumor cancers ( mentioned in the latest 10Q for future trials), thus dramatically expanding market potentials!!! But the "Big Moment" occurred in late October of last year when the STADIUM LIGHTS turned on, shining bright lights on the latest nGBM/rGBM ,Dr. Liau trial data suggesting 50%to 65% OS for 8 years with emphasis on rGBM !!! That was the point in time when BP and the entire biotech world realized that GBM/rGBM would be treated and managed as a CHRONIC DISEASE!!! with unlimited PROMISE and HOPE for patients and unlimited marketing potential to finance existing vaccine production and the continuing development for improved treatments for all diseases!!!!!
So that's what I learned and that's my story and I'm stickin to it!!!!
Cheers especially to all the Mom's and to everyone !!!

The light switch just turned on for me !!! I'm not a doctor or scientist or a STEM concentration "rock star", but if I read something over and over again several times and look carefully at the pictures SOMETIMES, NOT ALL THE TIME, a major mental breakthrough occurs and I believe that I've discovered something very profound!!
In this case, I believe the main message from the slide deck is that DCVax-L, either by itself or in combination with CI's has turned the whole thing around for treating nGBM/rGBM from having to kill the tumor to a "management process" !! It looks like now with this new information, that GBM patients can receive vaccinations as needed with "Zero" side effects and live a long and happy life !!! A comment from a medical expert that DOES KNOW !!!:
Dr. Greg Zivic:
This treatment can turn a Glioblastoma into a chronic treatable disease even after recurrence of the tumor.
So help me out here. Does the above reasoning seem logical based on the slides all of us have just reviewed?? If it does or is, then little Team Northwest has just changed the healthcare landscape forever in the way that we treat disease!!!!!
Am I way off base or are all of onto to something that is fabulous beyond belief???
Cheers,
BB

From my friends in the UK, my use of the word "determined" grossly understates the effort behind the "Grand Plan"!!
So far, the MHRA has not only accepted and approved the MIA application (manufacturing license), but voluntarily offered the expansion to a GLOBAL MANUFACTURING" license allowing for the import of live cells and the export of vaccines to the far corners of the earth!!! People!!! That is huge!!!!! BUT as always 99.99% of the retail investors don't understand the significance of that license or anything else about the process and look to the screen to validate the importance/value of the license, where they are greeted by Citadel and Virtu and the rest of the gang that manipulate the price to new lows, confirming that, in spite of everything they just read from the greatest medical minds in the universe, is a bunch of crap!!!!
Fortunately for the cancer patients and shareholders of Northwest, the MHRA does not include in their decision making process the current SP of NWBO or the opinion of the "gutter filth" that manage those companies or any other companies that participate in the ordered destruction of small biotechs that are engaged in the development of immunotherapy vaccines!! So, it's on to the filing of the MAA (marketing license), the approval and the decisions that will guarantee swift treatment deliveries to patients!!
So Griffin and Cifu and Fuerstein and the rest can lie all they want , but the GREAT UNITED KINGDOM will not be denied the ultimate crown of being the WORLD CENTER for CANCER TREATMENT !!!!!
Cheers,
BB
Bright Boy Re: hoffmann6383post# 578889 Tuesday, March 21, 2023 1:55:12 PM Post# of 596749 Go People, People, People!!! It's your friendly "hillbilly" here with some more great news!! Don't know if I can "one up" my earlier post about the "Dog eating the license", but I'll try. So here we go!!
I don't think everyone realizes how dynamic and important the manufacturing license really is so I'll take a shot at giving you my take on it. First of all, the marketing approval (MAA) and the government subsidy approval(NICE) are pretty much in the bag before the manufacturing team gets the "green light" to proceed. The MAA and NICE teams talk to the MIA team and say," This stuff looks really cool and we wanted to let you know before you run off and do a lot of work on something that we won't approve when you're finished!!" Okay! So that's the first part.
Now for the second part and this is the part that involves a lot of money so read very carefully!!! The MIA license allows for global export of the vaccines and global import of immune cells/tumor resected material. Anyone in the entire world that is diagnosed with GBM can NOW ship their tumor samples to Northwest/Advent/Sawston to have their personal vaccine made and stored, all to be shipped back to the patient/doctor on a prescribed injection schedule. The beauty of this process is that patients everywhere can NOW receive their vaccine on a compassionate care basis. No more waiting!! No more opportunities for the "dark forces" to delay or deny suffering cancer patients their desperately needed treatments !!!
People, as of yesterday, Northwest is now IN BUSINESS !!!! AND that opens the door for institutional investors and an uplist to the New York or Nasdaq exchanges!!!!
All of the above is as good as that first sip of ice cold buttermilk on a hot summer day!!!! AND for those unfortunate shorts and haters it adds a whole new description to the letters FTD and I'll let you guess what that might be!!!
Cheers,
BB

Abstract Objective: To define the landscape of treatment patterns and current epidemiological data regarding gliomas in Pakistan.
Methods: As part of the Pakistan Brain Tumour Epidemiology Study (PBTES), data were collected from 32 neurosurgical centres across the country. Our retrospective study looked at patients who underwent surgical procedures for gliomas in 2019 in neurosurgical centres. The data was collated and analysed using STATA version 15.
Results: A total of 781 patients with gliomas were identified 479(61.8%) in public sector hospitals, 302(39.1%) in the private sector). The most common histopathological subtypes were glioblastoma 262 (33.5%), followed by astrocytoma 147(18.8%) and oligodendroglioma 93(11.9%). Gender distribution was skewed towards men 508(65%). Private institution hospitals performed surgical biopsies as the first surgical procedure 75(23%) more often than public hospitals 38(9%). Chemotherapy was given to 115(29.8%) patients, and there was no data regarding 467(53%) of patients. Similarly, only 202(43.9%) patients received radiation therapy, and there was no data for 469(60%) of patients. For high-grade gliomas specifically, only 95(31.8%) patients with HGG have a record of receiving radiation therapy, and only 57(18.9%) had a record of being started on chemotherapy.

Contents Declaration of conflicting interests Funding ORCID iDs Footnotes References PDF / ePub More Dear Editor, Glioblastoma is a malignant neoplasm of the central nervous system that arises from glial cells, primarily astrocyctes and is characterized by poorly differentiated, fusiform, round or pleomorphic astrocyctic cells with marked nuclear atypical and brisk mitotic activity.1 Despite advances in early diagnosis and comprehensive treatments, there is nearly 100% recurrence rate and dismal patient survival.2 According to researchers, more than 13,000 Americans are diagnosed with Glioblastoma annually, causing significant morbidity and mortality. There has been no cure for Glioblastoma so far.3 Treatment options often include surgical removal of the tumor followed by concomitant radiation and adjuvant temozolomide TMZ chemotherapy which has been the standard of care for glioblastoma since decades, but exposure to high doses of ionizing radiation is a well-known exogenous risk factor for glioblastoma. The inability to cross the BBB is the major obstacle in achieving remission after surgical resection followed by chemotherapy and radiation.4 As a result, glioblastoma typically recurs within six to 8 months and the survival rate is generally less than 5%.2 Despite the development of novel, complex, multidisciplinary, and targeted therapies the outcome for patients remains almost universally lethal.5 Therefore, the need for effective treatment is undeniable. For this reason, it has been a priority area in cancer research. Recently, US biotech company Northwest Biotherapeutics has developed a brain cancer vaccine, called DCVax, which is designed to help patients' immune system to target their tumors that may prolong their life by months or, in some cases, years.5 Thus, opening a door for the development of innovative therapy for targeting glioblastoma. The vaccine is created for each patient individually by isolating dendritic cells, from their blood which is then primed with biomarkers from a sample of the patient’s tumor.6 Dendritic cells present tumor antigens to the immune system, prime T cells, and mobilize antitumor responses.6 To evaluate the safety of the vaccine and its impact on survival time in patients with Glioblastoma, a phase 3 randomized control trial was conducted.7 In this trial, 348 patients newly diagnosed with Glioblastoma were tested at King’s College Hospital and other centers around the world for 8 years.7 Patients had surgery to remove their tumors as much as possible, followed by radiation and chemotherapy as the standard treatment for Glioblastoma.7 Among these patients, two out of three were treated with the vaccine, DCVax-L, with the remaining one-third receiving a placebo.7 The astonishing result of the trial has shown that newly diagnosed patients who received the vaccine survived for 19.3 months compared to 16.5 months for those who received a placebo.8 Overall 13% of all trial participants treated with DCVax lived more than 5 years after diagnosis compared with 5.7% in the comparison group who did so.8 Moreover, this is the first time in 17 years that such a significant result has been achieved in a Phase 3 trial of a systemic treatment for newly diagnosed Glioblastoma, and it’s the first treatment in 27 years for patients with GBM recurrence.9 Thus, this development represents a major step forward in our efforts to combat this devastating disease. Based on the findings of the trials evaluating the drug’s efficacy, it has the potential to improve the quality of life for patients, especially for the elderly and those unable to have surgery. A global clinical trial has concluded that the DCVax is the world’s first vaccine to treat deadly cancerous brain tumors that could help patients to live for years.9 This breakthrough could benefit 2500 people a year in the UK being diagnosed with Glioblastoma.9 It has also been shown that this therapy can be used to treat cancers other than Glioblastoma.9 However, due to high recurrence rate and lethal outcomes, the treatment of gliblastoma has seen significant transformation, switching from an aggressive surgical strategy to a more cautious one. The endorsement of the vaccine is a commendable achievement, and it demonstrates the unwavering commitment of researchers and healthcare professionals to discovering effective treatments for such lethal disease. Furthermore, vaccine may enhance the quality of life of a patient and provides a new hope for patients and their families Thus, it is crucial that we continue to support research into Glioblastoma and the development of novel treatments so that we can envision a future where this disease is eradicated. Anyone know if it's possible to easily convert a 3 phase laundry socket into 3 separate single phase sockets as one unit? I see lots of Hornbach plugs with 3 T13 outlets in them, but I can't tell how they are worried. As there any available where each socket is wired separately in the box?

2023.05.29 10:37 KKshilling How Nvidia's strategic moves made it the AI leader? 💰

How Nvidia's strategic moves made it the AI leader? 💰
Nvidia recently added ~$170 billion to its market value in a single trading day. To put that in perspective, that's more than the market cap of Disney, Nike, or Netflix. 🎥👟📺
Yes, you read that right - one day's gain exceeded the entire market cap of some of the world's most renowned companies. Talk about making a statement! 💥
If you've been following the tech giants closely - Meta, Amazon, Apple, Netflix, and Google, collectively known as MAANG - Nvidia might be gearing up to snatch the 'N' from Netflix. 🔄
The AI scene is buzzing, with everyone racing to build a ChatGPT alternative. And who's the unsung hero providing the firepower for this AI revolution? You guessed it, Nvidia. They're the shovel suppliers in this AI gold rush. ⛏️🏦
So, how did Nvidia get here? And what exactly do they do? Stay tuned as we delve deeper into Nvidia's journey and the strategic plays that propelled it. 🎆🧐

🚀 The Genesis

The founders of Nvidia foresaw that computers would become a household item. They focused on creating Graphic Processing Units (GPUs), essential for every computer today. At the time, the GPU market was packed with over 70 companies. But Nvidia outlasted them all, maintaining its lead through continuous innovation.
Founded in 1993 in California, they initially had no name and the co-founders named all their files NV for “next version.” When the founders had to incorporate, they scanned all words in the dictionary for “nv” and found invidia — Latin for envy. From 1993 - 1997, they released gaming chips which failed. In the early days, the team wanted to build data centres right away, but the CEO, Jensen Huang felt it was too early and put the focus on gaming chips.
Their big break came in 2000 when they partnered with Microsoft’s Xbox console, boosting their dominance in the video game industry. GPUs are less powerful than CPUs, but they work together to perform complex tasks like games and complex simulations quickly. So, next time you enjoy a video game or a movie, remember that it's made possible by Nvidia's GPUs.

♟️ Nvidia's business verticals

Nvidia’s four aces are Gaming, Data Centers, Professional Visualization, and Automotive - diverse but interconnected markets with exciting growth trajectories.
1️⃣ Gaming: With gaming now bigger than the movie box office, Nvidia is the maestro conducting the orchestra. Their GPUs and advanced software work together to enhance your gaming experience, offering smooth, high-definition graphics.
2️⃣ Professional Visualization: Nvidia’s GPUs turbocharge productivity and unlock new design, manufacturing, and digital content creation possibilities. You know the eye-popping VFX in your favourite flicks? Nvidia's the magic wand behind them.
3️⃣ Automotive: In the car world, Nvidia aims to be both the driver and the navigator. AI's the co-star, enhancing safety by assisting the human driver or even taking over entirely in autonomous mode.
4️⃣ Data Center: Nvidia's computing platform takes on Herculean tasks like AI, data analytics, graphics, and scientific computing in data centres. They are the hardworking crew behind the scenes, keeping the show running smoothly.
In short, wherever you look - be it gaming or professional visualization, your car's cockpit, or data centres - Nvidia's at the heart of the action, making things better, faster, and more efficient. 🌟💻🚘🌐

🎯 Strategic Moves of Nvidia

Here are some of the key strategic decisions made by Nvidia that helped it become a leader in the semiconductor industry and dominating the AI chip market.
1️⃣ The $40B ARM wrestle: Nvidia took a major leap by acquiring ARM, a powerhouse that crafts chips for mobiles and tablets. Though ARM's chips aren't as powerful as their PC counterparts due to space and cooling constraints, they've been stepping up, gaining ground in power efficiency and heat management. This move is like scoring an IPL superstar for your cricket team!
2️⃣ Partnership with Academia: Nvidia has been instrumental in partnering with top scientists like Geoffrey Hinton - considered the father of deep learning. He revolutionized computer vision thanks to Nvidia's technology. That led to other deep learning successes - think Google Photos, Uber, Alexa, and more which run on - Nvidia GPU data centers.
3️⃣ CUDA, the unsung hero: The CUDA compute platform, introduced by Nvidia in 2007, is the invisible layer that enhances everything it touches. It empowers researchers to program GPUs quickly and easily, revolutionising deep learning. CUDA made GPU programming very simple, allowing researchers to develop deep learning models quickly and affordably - on Nvidia's hardware.
4️⃣ The AI supercomputing master: Nvidia is not just about GPUs anymore. It's evolved into an "AI supercomputing company," fuelling the AI startup ecosystem. OpenAI, for instance, pays Nvidia to run the giant data centres that use GPUs to train the Large Language Models (LLMs) that power services like ChatGPT.
In a nutshell, Nvidia's strategic moves and innovations have catapulted it to a prime position in the tech industry, making it an indispensable player in the future of AI, gaming, and much more. 💰💼💡🚀

🪨 The Challenges Ahead

Nvidia's been sitting pretty at the top of the GPU kingdom for a while now, but there's always a twist in the tale. Potential challengers like AMD and Google are warming up on the sidelines, ready to take a shot at the throne by building their own AI chips. 🏋️‍♂️
The geopolitical climate isn't exactly offering Nvidia a clean path. With the latest US export controls, Nvidia can't sell its crown jewels, the state-of-the-art A100 and H100 GPUs, to China. 🌍🚫
The AI landscape, too, is heating up. Microsoft is reportedly crafting its own AI chips to reduce reliance on Nvidia's tech, aiming to go full throttle by 2024. 💻🔧
With demand soaring and supply running low, and to keep the costs low, others in the AI arena are scrambling to secure their chip stash for data centres. 🍽️🔥
All said and done, it's clear that Nvidia has a challenging yet exciting journey ahead. One thing's for sure - the race is on, and we're here for the ride! 🚀🔝

2023.05.29 10:12 Sudden-Acanthaceae41 Not sure what to do

Hello, first ever post. Based in UK.
8 weeks ago my (F43) dad (M68) has a stroke. It was pretty significant and he's still pretty much paralysed down his left side, but his cognitive ability still seems good.
He has been in a relationship with his partner (F64) for the past 20+ years. He lives up here in Scotland, she lives in southern England. It works for them, they spent time at each others houses, etc. When Covid hit they didn't travel to see each other and my dad's physical health deteriorated to the point he was struggling to walk much.
Fast forward to now: his partner is now up staying with us intermittently to visit my dad in the rehab unit. We had not seen her in person since 2018 and she was always a bit forgetful, but nothing concerning. Since she's been up visiting this year we've noticed a massive change. She was made redundant just before Covid and has been quite isolated socially for 2-3 years now due to that. She seems to have lost her confidence and even travelling up here by train or plane is extremely stressful for her. She lost her bags at King's Cross on one occasion.
While here she is constantly asking the same questions - how old is our son, how many cats do we have, etc. Initially she'd forget he was in the hospital and ask if he was back home, but that seems to have stopped. She got lost in the hospital and we have to accompany her everywhere while juggling work and college commitments. She will sit, completely zoned out, for hours at a time. She left the room earlier after chatting with me, and when she came back in (minutes later) she asked if that was me back from work.
She barely eats without us basically putting food in front of her. She doesn't seem to shower and she's been here 11 days and declined any laundry being done.
She has 2 sisters and 3 adult children who don't seem to be aware of any of this, and my dad has forbidden me from asking them if they know what's going on as it will upset her. She does get withdrawn and upset if she thinks she's forgetting something (she was extremely distressed when she got lost in the hospital). I honestly don't know what to do. The situation has added another layer of stress onto an already stressful situation and I feel like I'm constantly walking on eggshells and hypervigilant about her whereabouts. I'm exhausted but I know I have no rights to decide anything for her as we're not related.
What do I do?

2023.05.29 09:01 The_Transcendant On the wild rose: Alberta's last fifty years and its next few hours

On the wild rose: Alberta's last fifty years and its next few hours
Tomorrow. Canada will see one of its wildest elections in recent memory, tomorrow. Even for an American dominated sub I’m surprised it’s fallen this far under the radar. In short, it’s very important, very divisive and very, very close.
Alberta is a really unique case because politically speaking, it’s so far removed from the rest of the country. Alberta separatism, while still fringe, is finding more and more popular support over there. Conservative votes are so concentrated in Alberta and in the rest of the rural prairies that the CPC actually won the federal popular vote in both 2019 and 2021 despite losing badly to the Liberals in terms of seats, which are what actually matter. Nearly every one of their regional stereotypes hinges on how right wing they are. Alberta is built different.
To show why this is I’m going to go over the political history of the province and what has lead up to now.
ALBERTA LORE
It is the people who govern, or at least we say. And it goes without saying who has governed Alberta for the past 80 years. Like the western United States and the other prairie provinces, Alberta started out as a stronghold of progressive populism, but in 1935 the right wing populist Social Credit party took power from the left-wing agrarians, and held it uninterrupted until 1971 when they lost to the Progressive Conservatives, who would govern for even longer. Alberta has only changed governments 5 times in its history.
This kind of de facto one party system can only exist for a reason, and the reason was oil. The oil boom began at the tail end of the Socred days. The urbanization that oil caused is what brought the PC’s into power, and the insane amount of wealth that oil conjured is what kept them there eternally.
And I do mean insane. During oil booms, literally anyone could find an oil rig job paying six figures; hamlets became small cities and small cities became metropolises of over a million people. Take Calgary, the biggest city in the province. It is more sprawling than a well planned city, yet it’s ranked the third most livable in the world, chiefly because of how much rainbow fucking monopoly money it sees. So Alberta had no qualms with becoming a petrostate - why would they? They became one of the richest places on earth.
The PC’s were far from radical; they threw their billions at public works, and they weren’t particularly conservative socially. They never really made anyone mad. Sparing 1993 (when they still kept their 50% + 1), the PC’s never faced any real opposition from the left, right, or centre, top, or bottom. Remember, we are talking about decades.

This is 1975, but this isn't anything special. They all looked like this in the early PC era.
This did change, though. Think back to whatever the Tea Party was in the US; what it stood for, what ignited it, what kept it burning. As the PC leadership grew stale and moldy, straying from “true conservatism” by deficiting hard and lobbing vast sums of money back at the oil industry, the hard right went “fuck it” and left. In 2008, The Alberta Alliance, which had exactly one representative, merged with the Wildrose party (named for Alberta's designated flower), which had exactly zero, to create a real conservative alternative.
They ultimately failed to build any real sort of momentum in the 2008 provincial election. Their leader and sole MLA, Paul Hinman, lost re-election and stepped down. In their 2009 leadership election, lobbyist Danielle Smith took his place. Now Alberta was deep into the Great Recession, and the party was genuinely optimistic now, because PC premier Ed Stelmach’s popularity was tanking among the right. In a Calgary by-election that year, Paul Hinman ran and won in a seat that had been held by the PC’s since 1969. This was a W that gave the Wildrose party the momentum and legitimacy that they desperately needed.
Every 30 or 40 years, we get tired of the government that’s in power and we sweep them out and we look to a new alternative. I think we have an opportunity to catch one of those historic waves.
- Danielle Smith, upon being named Wildrose Alliance leader. I straight up ripped this shit from wiki but it encapsulates it all better than anything else I could write.
In 2011, the ever more unpopular Ed Stelmach resigned and was replaced by scandal-plagued Alison Redford. There was another election to come in 2012, and Wildrose was leading. Looking at every poll taken right up until election day, the Progressive Conservative hegemony seemed to be coming to an end. Then came the casting of the ballots, and the results were a fat fucking almost-nothingburger for Danielle Smith (who definitely wasn’t free of controversy herself). Her party was largely confined to the province’s southern rural areas - god-fearing, gun-toting and ram-ranching even by Alberta standards. The PC’s were down from 72 to 61 seats in the assembly while Wildrose, still the official opposition, was 10 points behind them in the PV and only won 17. Many of those seats came from the re-election of former PC MLAs who crossed the floor during Stelbach’s term.

2012. If polls were right, most of this would have been green and Danielle Smith would be in charge a decade earlier.
In 2014, the PC dynasty became the longest lasting in Albertan history. Also in 2014, Alison Redford resigned from the premiership with an 18% approval rating, being succeeded by cabinet minister Jim Prentice. The walls were falling in for the party, but as fate would have it, they were for the Wildrose party, too. Ten of their 17 MLAs, including Danielle Smith, defected to the PC Party citing concerns with Danielle Smith and her leadership. In 2015, when Prentice’s poll numbers actually looked okay for the first time in a while, he called an election. In short, a momentous fuck up.
Both the Progressive Conservatives and the Wildrose party (now led by Brian Jean) were stuck in an endless cycle of chimpanzeenian shit flinging, and they divided the dominant right wing vote almost perfectly in half. Neither of them would win. Neither would the Alberta Liberal Party, the only non-conservative party with any legitimacy. Nay, after the 2015 election the majority in the legislative assembly was held by Rachel Notley’s social-democratic Alberta New Democratic Party. The NDP They, by virtue of being left of centre in Alberta, had been a meme party until the day they weren’t. They swept the capital city of Edmonton and (with an insane amount of protest voting and vote splitting, as they only got 40%) picked up dozens of seats in Calgary and the rurals. Needless to say, a big deal this was.

2015. Without near-perfect Wildrose/PC vote splitting, most of those Calgary and northern seats would not be orange.
The PC party, Alberta's forever governors, had been relegated to the humiliating time out corner of third place. The Wildrose party became the official oppositing to the ANDP's governing majority. Notley and her party got adjusted to the position as well as they could have; oil prices were collapsing and the time, so her government put an intense focus on public works and on desperately needed diversification of what was basically resembled a Gulf State economy. She governed as a competent centrist, shying away from anything that could be seen as anti-capitalist or environmentalist. Alberta's NDP government openly clashed with neighbouring British Columbia's NDP government over the Trans-mountain pipeline, which shipped oil from the sands and wells in Alberta across the Rockies to ports in greater Vancouver. In American terms, she was a Blue Dog. She understood what she needed to do to win in her province.
Regardless of what she did, though, she was not in any position to win. In 2017, the Progressive Conservatives elected Calgary MLA Jason Kenney as they leader, who ran with the intent of uniting the two right wing parties. This had happened on the federal level in 2003, and it led to Calgary's Stephen Harper being Prime Minister for over a decade after a long period of Liberal rule. Kenney did exactly that, and won the leadership contest of the new United Conservative Party with a wide majority.
This was all happening while Justin Trudeau's federal Liberal government, which had just recently buried Harper in a landslide, was suffering enormous backlash in western Canada, mostly due to policies like his carbon tax, but also due to being Fr*nch and secretly Fidel's son. The 2019 federal election was fought largely on the environment and Greta Thunberg, and the federal Conservatives won unprecedented margins in the prairies, nearing 90% of the vote in some rural Alberta and Saskatchewan seats. The 2019 Albertan general election happened months before "how dare you", but it was much the same. Notley put up as much of a fight as she could, but the UCP still swept and won the PV by over 20 points.

2019, a 20 point UCP landslide. If the federal NDP did this well Jagmeet would be PM.
It seemed as though 2015-2019 was just an aberration, and the newly formed UCP would govern for another half century until the next Wildrose saga. Kenney was governing exactly how a leader of a PC-Wildrose merger party would be expected to govern, and he wasn't facing much opposition from the centre right or the far right. Then COVID hit. Compared to most other premiers in the country and most other countries on earth, Kenney imposed moderate restrictions: a public health emergency and a vaccine passport. He tried to promote staying home, wearing masks, and getting vaccinated. He did this, however, while travelling out of province for the holidays. Decidedly not a good look.
The former Wildrose wing of the party was pissed, to say the least. Over the span of 2021, he faced a barrage of attacks from hard right rural MPs in his own party, and bled continuously more support to QAnon-adjacent Alberta independence splinter parties. By now, the NDP had a considerable lead in provincial polls. In September of that year, his own party agreed to hold a no-confidence vote against him in the following spring due to him refusal to resign or abolish all COVID restrictions. He won that no-confidence motion with 51% percent of the vote, but resigned anyway in disgrace. It was Over.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
Running to replace him were hard right Brian Jean, hard right Todd Loewen, hard right Travis Toews, and of course, hard right Danielle Smith, who pretty narrowly beat Toews. A display of where the UPC was already heading, any moderates were more or less irrelevant in the race. Danielle Smith, once the undisputed leader of Alberta's Wildrose far right, was now its premier. And for the most part, she spends her days comparing vaccinated people to nazis (she half assed an apology to be fair) and whining about the WEF. I can fairly confidently say that she's insane, at least by Canadian standards if not by those of America. (I can give more examples of goofy shit she's uttered but I want to sleep right now).
Have I mentioned that Alberta has a slight conservative tilt? You could definitely tell if you looked at opinion polls, where the UCP now has a very slight edge over the NDP despite Rachel Notley clearly distancing herself from the left, feuding with the federal New Democratic Party. I honestly believe that there's a large percentage of people in Alberta, maybe even close to 50%, who will start violently convulsing if they're forced to check a ballot for a left-leaning party. People who genuinely, truly believe that Notley is a tyrant and a communist.
This brings us to now. A dead heat election between the UCP and NDP, uncannily similar to the 2020 presidential. The polarization and Americanization of our politics is rearing its ugly head. It's tearing so many families apart. These kinds of elections, be it Notley vs. Smith, Trump vs. Biden, Hobbs vs. Lake, all have this kind of desperate vibe. I'm sure you can feel it. You notice the desperation in the air if you went to Alberta anytime in the past couple months. I know a few people in Alberta, and I can almost sense it emanating from them.
I've heard quite a few anecdotes about lifelong conservatives with, like, Margaret Thatcher figurines in jars, who are voting for their local NDP candidates this time around because they look at the present UCP and see only an imported brand of lunacy. There's another side, I'm sure, but I won't pretend to see it. I have no idea how this will pan out, and I don't know if I want to know. I'm typing this around midnight because this shit is just wild. It should not be like this. But this is how it is, and only time will tell what happens next.

Hey everyone, I am an international student studying at a university in Perth. I am overall good with my mental health. I never had any big stress moments where I was having dark thoughts. I am really passionate about my uni course and I am really good with my Academic grades as well (Distinction). As a part of my university course, I was required to do my placement at a centre in Perth for 30 days. I was really excited for my placement. 2 weeks back, I started working at the centre and in the first week, the staff was really welcoming and friendly. I was working at the centre from 9am till 6pm for 5 days, and as i was on my placement, I was not getting paid. There were lots of documents that I had to fill every single day after coming back home. I used to come home around 6:30pm and then take half an hour break to relax. After that, my whole night used to go in writing documents and templates given by uni. I also did not had any other job that pays my bills or help me financially. I used to do Uber before, but after starting my placement, I didn’t had enough energy and time to do Uber as well. After few days of working at the centre, I could see that the staff was being bit rude with me. But as I was just wanted to be there for 30 days, I didn't let that bother me. I kept working 5 days for 1st week and on weekends, I used to work on my uni assignments. On 2nd week, the centre staff was telling me to do more cleaning stuff, which again, I don't mind doing. I was doing whatever they were telling me to do. I noticed that each day, different staff member used to do cleaning tasks. But few staff members always used to tell me to do the cleaning tasks which they were supposed to do. There were times when one staff member was assigned to do some task and they used to tell me to do it while they can sit on chair and relax. One day, I didn't do the tasks as I was on my break and I was busy doing my documentation. It was also some other staff member turn to do it today. They came to me and asked me why I didn't do the task. I said because no one told me to and I thought it is not my duty today and someone else is supposed to do it. They said that I have to do it every day without them telling me. The way they were treating me was really unprofessional. Like, I am here on my placement, I have to do so much of writing and go through documents. I am not your servant. I am here to learn how everything works and not just stick with cleaning tasks. I need time to write my daily journal too about how my day goes at the centre. After working for 15 days, my mentor had to fill in a report saying that I did some specific tasks during my placement or not. Surprisingly, she write most of the points in the report as NOT DEMONSTRATED, even tho I clearly demonstrated all points. My mentor was never there to actually observe me during my placement, half of the time she used to stay busy with her own stuff and she only used to get 2 or 3 hours to observe me. She even added a comment in the report saying that some staff members think that I am talking rudely with them. I never said No to them about anything. If they wanted me to do something, I did it without any hesitation. I always talked with them in polite way as well. My mentor also mentioned more comments which I can not relate to such as not doing tasks when we tell him. She basically failed me in my mid report and then told my uni advisor about how she put me at risk because I am not performing well. I decided to schedule a meeting with my mentor and my advisor about discussing my report and how I was not evaluated properly. during the meeting, I bring up points where I was being polite with staff and it is staff who was being unprofessional with me. After meeting ended, I told my advisor that I cannot work at this centre and i would like to change my centre. I told them that, I am fully committed to my placement and have been putting in daily efforts to fulfil my responsibilities. The environment at the centre was both physically and mentally draining for me. I have faced stress due to the unprofessional behaviour of some staff members. The disrespectful manner in which they communicate has made it difficult for me to feel comfortable and confident in my role. Furthermore, I believe my hard work has not been correctly recognised by my mentor. Even with my efforts, it seems that my work has gone unnoticed. I believe that a supportive and learning environment is necessary for my growth and development during this placement. Unfortunately, my current centre fails to provide such environment, and it makes me feel unsupported in the overall progress of my placement. My advisor said that if i choose to change the centre, I have to do 30 days full at different centre as well. So there was a chance to change my centre. I was more than happy to do it as long as the staff is treating me right and I am being evaluated properly. Later, i got a response from my placement team saying that I cannot change my centre as it will be withdrawal from my placement and they will fail me. This is really stressful for me. I don't want to fail at any unit and I want to keep my academic report good. I am having stress for past week and I already had chat with my uni but they clearly don't understand how I was being treated. I had chat with some uni friends and they said that they know someone with similar issue and uni changed their centre easily. I am not sure why my uni is doing this with me. If i get a mental health certificate, is it going to help me? Any help will be appreciated.
