I'm still working on the story itself. The 93k is proof enough of that. My last draft was that long, and I'm not quite sure how long this draft will end up, though I am aiming for around 100k by the end. I also have two different blurbs to work with. Figuring out which one would be more appropriate is the main reason behind this post.
Someone had mentioned that I should start with character rather than setting, but when I shared the second one some people said it read more stiffly compared to the first.

Since they're both Adult Modern Fantasy with academic settings, it would largely be a matter of me deciding which of the two is more appropriate to keep. Or replacing them both with a different title I might find more appropriate that I find later down the line.
I'm also very new to the publishing world, and while there should be a short bio after the bit about comp titles, since it isn't like I have any previously published works or anything, I do not know what I would even put there. Would it actually just be a very condensed biography about my relationship with writing?

Hi all!
I’m a bit confused about customs in YVR and I have been seeing some conflicting info on if you have to pick up your checked bags to get through customs at YVR.
I booked my flight from DEN-YVR-YYC for mid June through Air Canada, but my DEN-YVR leg is on United. I plan to check a bag on both legs.
Thing is, my YVR layover is 12 hours and I’d like to use that time to get out of the airport and explore the city. Initially, I had read something that your bags will be checked all the way through and you don’t have to pick them up in YVR, but I’m also seeing some information that says I will need to pick up my bags to clear customs. Because of the long layover, I’m not sure if I’ll be able to re-check my bags after clearing customs if I do need to pick it up.
I really don’t want to be lugging around my checked bag throughout the city. Will I need to pick up my bag and rent a car or can I safely assume that my bag will be checked through (or I can re-check it immediately after customs even with a 12 hour layover) and take the sky train into the city?

I am trying to see if my wife has a case against her old employer. She just quit this past Saturday after a horrible and inflammatory manager-to-employee meeting held Friday. To preface, this all occurred in Howard County, MD.
Here are the details:
o The maintenance manager was hostile about this situation and was not communicative about the fixes needed to pass inspection, and the unit had failed for a second time. She went to management again to complain about the treatment she was receiving from the maintenance manager. At this time, the property manager and the maintenance manager are fully aware of the fixes that need to be made to pass inspection.
o The unit fails for a third time. When my wife called the maintenance manager about the 4th inspection being scheduled and if the fixes had been completed, the maintenance manager screams at her, and lies about the day he received the list of things needed to be fixed. He said he just received it the other day. (When he has had it for weeks at this point). My wife called the property manager immediately. When she described how the maintenance manager has been treating her about this situation and since she has started this position, the property manager said his behavior “is verbally abusive”. The property manager also said her, and another office worker have also received this kind of treatment from the maintenance manager before as well.
o A couple days later, the day of the 4th inspection, my Wife went to the unit and saw some items on the list of needed fixes were still not completed.
o She texted photos of the unit to the property manager, and went back to the main office. She went to the property managers office to discuss this situation and all the incidents of maintenance requests not being done in a timely manner. The property manager texted the photos to the maintenance manager and called him herself. He yelled at her, and tried to act like he still didn’t know what needed to be done. The property manager told my wife to go back to unit and describe to the maintenance manager what needs to be done in detail (something she has already done). My wife said “If you send me back there, and he continues to treat me abusively, I am going to curse him out, I am tired of this treatment”. The property manager said Okay and sent her anyway.
o At the unit in question, My wife meets the maintenance manager at the door. When she was about to enter the unit, the maintenance manager grabs her shoulder. My wife says to him “do not fucking touch me”, brushed him off, and walks in the unit.
o At the front door, the first thing he does is “correct my language” about the unit and fixes. Being super combative about the list of fixes and what the property manager had sent him photos of. My wife says “do we have to fight about this, or can I just show you what needs to be done?”. She begins showing him different things that need to be fixed, and he yells at her the entire time saying these items cannot be fixed. My wife responds saying “then you can fucking explain to the inspectors why that is this time”. She goes to hand him the keys to the unit, and the maintenance manager grabs her hand and holds onto it, trying to make her not leave. After she had yelled at him to not touch her multiple times. My wife yelled again, “do not fucking touch me!” she yanked her hand back from him and left the unit.
o She goes back to the main office, and she immediately tells the property manager what happened (briefly) that she did indeed curse him out and he grabbed her. She didn’t get to tell the full story because the property manager was heading into a meeting at the time.
o After that meeting, the property manager left the office entirely, so my wife wasn’t able to share the full details of the ordeal, but she was able to tell the full story to the assistant property manager.
o The next day, the property manager called my wife and said “I understand both sides of this situation.” This made my wife confused and she said back “I will respond with the energy that I am met with from here on out”.
The property manager had previously given my wife assurances that she should stand up for herself. That my wife could ask people to leave if they were being harassing. Basically, giving my wife a sense of autonomy about where to draw the line.
o A few days later, My wife officially meet with the property manager about what had occurred at the unit. The property manager said my wifes behavior was unprofessional, and that “corporate would have written you up for this had they known”. (the property manager was talking about the cursing…. Which the maintenance manager does ALL THE TIME to the office workers). When my wife reminded The property manager that she said she was going to curse the maintenance manager out if she was sent to the unit and if he got aggressive with her, the property manager said, “I cannot control your actions”. The property manager could’ve gone to the unit herself and met the maintenance manager but chose to send my wife knowing this situation was unraveling. When my wife mentioned the maintenance manager getting physical and grabbing her, the property manager brushed it off completely saying “you did not make me aware of that”. (even though my wife mentioned it before the property manager left the office that day) However, My wife later learned that the maintenance manager told the property manager that my wife yelled “don’t fucking touch me”. So, the property manager did in fact know that the situation got physical, and still chose to verbally berate my wife and call her reaction unprofessional.
o Here is where the retaliation comes in. Since March of this year, my wife and the property manager came to a gentlemans agreement that my wife would work one less day (4 days a week) while still being paid for full time work. My wife suffers from chronic pain, and there is a surgery scheduled for August to address it, and the property manager let her work one less day a week since that helped manage the pain while still being able to work. After the meeting about the unit and the maintenance manager, the property manager said my wife would begin coming into the office 5 days a week, saying she had “officially asked corporate” about her working one less day a week, and they had “listed my wife’s Job”. This is a clear sign of retaliation. The property manager has known about the upcoming surgery and my wife’s health issues, but chose to punish her anyway.
o Not only did she receive unjust punishment for an abusive situation, but she was also made to feel unsafe and uncomfortable at work knowing the property manager is okay with things getting physical. My wife had complained several times about the abuse she was receiving, and nothing was ever done. It seems the property manager was trying to silence her about the situation to get her to move on. Because of not feeling safe in that environment any longer, she quit the next day.

I could have booked transfers on the website, but have booked the tour only at 11:30. This means I’m reliant on public transport. Me and my brother have been trying to create a system using a Raspberry Pi to:
To get the firewire port, we intend to use a CM4 with this CM4 NAS carrier board that we found, and a PCIe Firewire card. We currently already have the CM4 but not the carrier board.
The issue we're left with however is how to power the Pi, as it has to be portable. The carrier board requires a 5V and 12V rail, so we considered using a 12V rechargable lithium ion battery and a converter to get the 5V rail. This however leads to the primary issue which is that we don't know how/if we can keep track of the battery's level. Without this, obviously this board is going to be pretty anxiety inducing to use if we take it out to record. We're also not entirely certain if this is the most elegant way of going about it.
So my main question is: what would be a suitable way of powering this board, whilst being able to keep track of the power level? Also, we made an educated guess that 6800mAh would be enough to power us for a couple hours, but can anybody more experienced say otherwise?
Of course if necessary we're open to using a different carrier board or taking a different approach if there are any suggestions. I have some experience with PCB/schematic design, but that's been with analog guitar pedal circuits and never Pi's.

- Process the signal with ffmpeg to save the captured footage.

Strange issue with my wateelectricity at the moment.
I had an issue with my clothes washer yesterday, resulting in me having to drain it via the front emergency drain. As I was throwing down towels to soak up the water, I got absolutely buzzed by what I was concerned was a blast of electricity that had resulted from the water leaking onto an exposed wire or something. I turned off the washing machine at the wall (there's a inaccessible 3 pin socket behind the machine and a main switch above the counter), but this did nothing to alleviate the zappy water. It tripped the (RCD? - don't think it was the main fuse that went) about five minutes after this and with the power out I was left wringing out towels by phone torchlight and getting zapped every time I swapped towels.
Now I left everything off while it dried until about eight hours later when I reset the electric switch thingy and lo and behold the power came back on fine without issue. However, my kitchen sink is now outputting what I can only describe as statically charged water, the tap does not appear to be charged, implying it's something to do with the water supply, however my bathroom sink is not giving me any issues...
Wondered if anyone has come across behaviour like this before and could hazard a guess at a cause?

Was forced out of my apartment in Las Cruces almost a year ago when they raised rent from $575 to $1600 a month and been staying with family ever since in another state and trying to get home. I have 30 days to find a room or I am homeless. I am open to ANY town in southern NM. Las cruces, Anthony, Almogordo, Ruidoso, T or C, Vado, Silver City, Lordsburg etc. My only requirement is I need internet to do my job. I am open to helping with chores and doing work on the property if need be as well. I am clean, respectful and stick to myself. I like to fish, hike and I am generally never home unless working.

Hey guys, so I used to work at EA as a QA Tester until we all got laid off. Anyways, I’m looking to try and get into QA testing again since I loved it so much but I’m having trouble finding similar jobs. As a tester, I mainly did manual testing, although I did get about 4 months of experience in focused performance testing where I didn’t necessarily do the brain dead run at a wall 300 times tasks. I mainly wrote and ran performance tests. I also wrote bug reports and did retests. Anyway I’m just looking for something similar but everything I look at on Linkedin is like super high up 70k a year jobs that I just don’t need. I’m just trying to find the grunt work jobs lol. (for reference, I’m taking a year off from nursing school to save up so I don’t have to work in clinicals)
I’m moving to Houston on July 1st and if anyone knows any ideas on where I could look please let me know!

We had a birthday party this weekend for our kiddo.
MIL is notorious for overdoing it with gifts & buying things our kid can’t use at that time- trike when he was 18mo, battery powered bumper car at 18mo, small bath toy with little fish he could eat, eggs full of change for Easter… an assortment of other things that we’ve been gifted & then store until he’s old enough to use them. *both the trike and bumper car are in our basement still. Or things he genuinely isn’t safe to use/have.
She asked for insight on the gifts for this party so I thought maybe we were making headway. I said he needed the next size up for clothes, for most toys he was fine, but he loves being outside so any outside toys are great. We have an abundance of them, limited space indoors, and most of the new toys he is gifted are “fun” for a week and then he’s over them but outside has been a real favorite of his with the warmer weather.
Everybody leaves following the party & she starts insisting we put together the gifts he got. DH obliges. She bought an easel with a dry erase board on one side and a chalk board on the other. Kiddo loves to draw so I’m not upset about the gift itself. However, when DH is unboxing it he finds little magnetic letters that are about an inch in size. The magnets glued on the back are maybe a 1/4”.. He says that DS can’t have them because they’re too small & he’ll eat them. MIL starts immediately arguing with him saying it’s “just fine” and he won’t put them in his mouth. He’ll just “need to be watched when he plays”. DH says no again and then shows me the bag to ask if I’m okay with it, but he is NOT.
I agree with him and tell him we’ll put it up in the stash of small toys we’ve kept from other gifts. DH continues with the easel, another small bag of accessories comes out and MIL had it. She starts condescendingly talking to DS saying “Well this is sort of small so we have to ask your MOM if you can have them or if SHE wants them put away.” I wasn’t the one that made the immediate decision with the first bag of accessories.. so this isn’t a “me” issue.
I shoot DH a look. He wraps it up. They leave after another hour.
We’ve been discussing the shitty comment last night/this morning.
DH says I’m “right” to be annoyed but feels I’m looking into this too deeply and just can’t give his mom a break because I constantly “look” for things to be upset with her for.
Overall, I think it’s a bigger boundary issue than he realizes. It felt like she was coming after me when I wasn’t the one that had initiated the safety concerns to begin with. The main point/concern is he could choke because he puts EVERYTHING in his mouth and this is part of the reason I don’t trust her with him unsupervised.. another thing DH thinks I’m overreacting about.
Am I wrong here? Am I the AH for wanting DH to squash this?

I'm trying to make myself a backdoor to the main network by designating the LAN2 port, just in case I need to ever hardline in to make configuration changes. LAN1 goes directly into my switch, and I don't want to make the admin portal accessible to anyone on the network, so want to add a secondary method as such.
I've configured the LAN2 interface with its own subnet, and made a firewall rule to allow traffic from LAN2 to LAN1, but still cannot reach the main gateway/PFSense from LAN2.
How would you go about making a secondary way to access PFSense? Netgate 4100 if it matters.
