Hi! My name’s Alec, I’m 26, and from the great state of Pennsylvania. I’m currently looking to make some new friends and see what happens on here.
A little bit about me: I’m a gamer. I own a gaming PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, & Xbox Series X. I play a good majority of everything from Fortnite, Doom, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, etc.
I’m a musician. I play drums and guitar. I happen to be in a band as well so be sure to ask all about it! I love all types of music. I mostly lean towards rock & metal (Slipknot, Metallica, Trivium, Glassjaw, etc.) but I do like some grunge & alternative (Radiohead, The Cure, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden). 2023.06.04 14:11 amarandagasi Replacing Yamaha RX-A740 with...?

Shopping around, trying to keep within reasonable cost limits, but also getting what I need, I'm trying to replace my existing Yamaha RX-A740 and have it (currently) narrowed down to the Yamaha RX-V6A and the Denon AVR-S760H. Trying to future proof my system a little.
At this point, I only use 5.1 speakers, but I have a need for a lot of HDMI inputs for various consoles and things. I'll be getting a Sony A80L and want a receiver that is more likely to support the HDR10+ that the PS5 and possibly other devices in my chain support (latest Apple TV, Xbox Series X, a gaming laptop, Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch).
I'm planning on keeping my same speakers, as they're working fine and I'm not a crazy audiophile.
I do like the look and feel of the RX-A740, and it's interesting that the Denon unit above actually looks a lot more similar to my existing model than the new Yamaha model.
I know and respect the Yamaha brand. I've had the RX-A740 since it was first released, so I know the product is rock solid.
Thoughts?
I like to shop at Best Buy and Amazon, and will likely have to map any recommendations there.

Longer than the kingdom of Rahymir existed, there was this one stone. A large boulder, standing on a beautiful field of flowers, in which a sword was stuck. It had sunk into the stone up to the hilt, not a speck of rust on the finely crafted handle. So the legend was born that whoever pulled the sword out of the stone would become the ruler of the land.
Many tried their hand at it, but especially the orphans from the home that was built not far from the stone. The children made fun of climbing on the stone for a bet and whoever touched the hilt first was king or queen of the bunch for the day. Only one boy never joined in. Standing a little apart, he always watched the rock closely, as if it would reveal its secrets if only he were watched closely enough. Then, early one morning, inspiration struck him. He stole a hammer and two chisels from the small workshop of the home and went to work.
From then on he hammered at the stone from sunrise to sunset. At the beginning he was mocked, teased and laughed at. But he continued to chisel. Without ceasing, in all weathers. Soon his work became better known and people from all over came to see the determined young man. But he did not want to know anything about them. He refused any help. The man wanted to be king all by himself, no matter how long it took. He only accepted the coins thrown to him.
Thus the years passed. The onlookers grew tired of the hustle and bustle and moved on. The man soon ran out of money for good tools and so he worked the stone again with the simplest tools. The years passed and now he was just the village fool, once again mocked, teased and laughed at by children. But the old man did not give up.
And so it came to pass that a gathered, breathless crowd watched him as he knocked the last chunk of stone from the blade. A murmur went through the crowd as the ancient runes on the hilt began to glow bluish. The old man picked up the sword with trembling hands - and dropped it, eyes wide. An outcry went through the crowd as the sword again drove itself into the ground up to the hilt, tip first, but again away from all greedy hands. No one paid any more attention to the old man.
Some time later, the old man, looking for a place to stay, entered an inn. Despite all the long time, someone recognized him. It was a former friend, now an old man himself, who had lived with him in the orphanage a long time ago. Moin Leute,
bin kürzlich wieder zum Klettern gekommen und wollt mal fragen ob ihr ein paar Outdoor Spots kennt die sich zum Bouldern eigenen. Düsseldorf hat ja Richtung Aaper Wald und den Bachtälern eine gewisse Vertikalität, wenn da noch ein paar Felsen dazwischen wären wäre top.
I recently came back to climbing and want to ask if you know a few outdoor spots that are good for bouldering. Düsseldorf has a certain verticality in the direction of Aaper forest and Bachtälern, if there were a few rocks in between that would be perfect.

2023.06.04 12:54 MemberBerry4 My thoughts on part 8 after just finishing it

I recently finished part 8 and I must say, I am beyond pleased with how it turned out! As someone who generally dislikes part 4, I put this manga aside for months, and I regret doing so lol. So, here's my thoughts:
POSITIVES:
  1. Josuke feels like on of the better Jojo's in the series because of how he faces certain issues. After reading the part where Nijimura showed him the wall eyes phenomenon and his reaction to it, it was just *chef kiss*. It really shows how competent Araki has gotten with character writing since part 1. The way he reacts to the environment around him feels very real, and his quest to find out his identity felt genuinely interesting to follow. But what made me put him in my top 3 Jojo's was the very end where he accepted that he is neither Kira or Josefumi, but Josuke.
  2. The Higashikata family is amazing, the interaction between them and the people around them was fun to read. They we're a solid 7/10 before Jobin showed up, and a solid 10/10 after he arrived. Jobin is definitely in my top 3 favorite part 8 characters, simply due to his presence, how much he does and how his ways of protecting his family come into conflict with Norisuke's, and with it, Josuke too.
  3. The rock humans were absolutely unhinged in the best possible way. From their visual design to their stands, they felt like a major threat, on par with pillar men but far more realistic. I don't think I can name any rock human (except for maybe soccer brothers) who wasn't interesting in their own quirky and *bizarre* way.
  4. The entire plot with Locacaca and what the organization was trying to accomplish with it felt great to follow. Both sides have perfectly valid reasons for wanting to have it, but only the side you're meant to root for has morally correct reasons, making it not too grey. Also the story behind the creation of Josuke and his reaction upon finding out the truth was one of the most memorable things for me. I also like how there's no DIO or alternatives to DIO lol.
  5. The visual designs of stands and the chosen names were amazing, never have I thought that buff drip granpa will become my #1 favorite stand. And can I just say how pleased I am that, for once, there's no time-manipulating stands?
NEGATIVES:
  1. While I do love Josuke as a character, his visual design feels kinda unremarkable compared to other Jojo's, I feel like Araki could've at least given him longer hair if anything
  2. While I did praise stands for their names and visual design, their abilities feel very meh. Some of them are way too situational and some are far too murder-focused for my liking. Other than S&W and Paisley Park, I don't think I could name a single other stand that would definitely be useful in real life.
  3. Not really much of a negative, but I feel like Tooru could've showed up sooner and been doing more, kinda like Pucci and Valentine. I would've been fine if the main villain was just the stand itself, would've been a pretty cool twist considering WoU is sentient. However, I DO NOT choose to look at it this way. For me, the entire Locacaca organization was the main villain, with Tooru being a leader in place rather than the lord.

TL;DR Part 8 has minor negatives and MAJOR positives, I can't wait to see it animated.

Want some advice on best utility snap blade knife.
I went to the store and was planning to buy the stanley fatmax 18mm (straight) but then read some reviews that said the lock wheel kept breaking. But they are super popular. But expensive
I heard Olfa were the best, but haven't tried them. Not common here in NZ.
I really like my 9mm Tajima, which ive had for many years, and after rejecting the stanley I very almost brought the "rock hard" 25mm Tajima.
Also saw in another store the Mileaukee at 18mm and 25mm for a very reasonable price. But don't know anything about the brand.
So... Advice please!
Would love to hear your experiences with any of these knives.

Green 'Stache. King of Second Bananas. The original pallet swap. Plain old player two. No matter what, Luigi never seems to be able to catch a break, always living in his brother's shadow. But in reality, he's got many advantages over Mario, such as his jump height and being taller. But while he may be a coward, when it comes down to saving those he cares about, Luigi will find the strength inside him to stand up against his foes, be they Bowser's forces or King Boo's spectral legions.
This thread takes the Super Mario Bros. 'canon' as every Super Mario platformer and all closely linked games (the Luigi's Mansion games, Yoshi titles except for Wooly World, and Super Princess Peach). The sole exception is Super Mario Bros. 2, which is confirmed in the credits to be a dream. Hover over each feat for the game they come from. Any feats featuring a different character comes from a game where they are capable of demonstrating the exact same feat.
