2023.05.29 16:05 No_Consideration_339 Trip Report train 21 Texas Eagle
| Here's my report for the southbound Texas Eagle this past Saturday. I boarded in Chicago and disembarked in Alton, IL. First some notes about Chicago Union Station. For all coach passengers Amtrak uses the Great Hall as waiting room space. It's a great space but oddly enough they could use more seating. While entering the great hall there was a sign saying Train 21 Texas Eagle Passengers Check In. I checked in and they gave me a seat check with ALN written on it and told me to get on the train at Door 1. This office closed about 45 minutes before the train departed and I saw many on board without seat checks. They called us all about 20 minutes before departure, lined us all up and marched us down to the track where we boarded. There were signs (Door 1,2,3,4) and attendants at each car door asking us our destinations. Looked to be a five car train, three coaches, diner, and sleeper at the front behind a GE loco. Door 1 was the last car, a nice Superliner coach. All the short haul St. Louis and Illinois passengers were in the last coach. The car was about 75% full. I didn't have a seatmate but many did. I grabbed the last seat on the left side as I wanted to look out the rear window en route. A fateful decision. Boarding at CUS We left right on the advertised and headed south. No delays at 21st st. or Brighton Park, thankfully. On time at Joliet with a BNSF stack train racing us the last mile into the station. But as we accelerated past 80mph south of Joliet the wind began to whistle around the rear door. It was annoying. Noise cancelling headphones made it bearable, but it was enough that myself and a few others tried messing with the rear door to stop it. Nothing much worked. As much as I enjoyed looking out the back at 100mph across the Illinois prairie, the whistle made sitting in the last seat less than optimum. While the Amfleet/Horizon/Venture equipped corridor trains can hit 110, Superliners are limited to 100. The ride was nice and smooth though and I got the sense that we could have gone faster if allowed. https://preview.redd.it/20x28k88jt2b1.png?width=295&format=png&auto=webp&s=cee8b2c385879a95bb8dd086cbbdeddc9e746240 We were right on the advertised until Lincoln. We had to wait a few minutes for a northbound UP stack train and were 5 minutes late into Lincoln. We met the northbound River Runner just north of Springfield which made us about 10 minutes late into Springfield. Made up a little time and were 6 minutes late into Alton. The train arrived in St. Louis on time. I snagged a beer and some chips from the dinecafe and service was fine. I do miss the observation/lounge car and hope it eventually returns to the Eagle. Chicago 21st St. Looking out the back at Pontiac Pontiac, IL new depot. Here's a pro tip for those thinking of using the very nice Alton, IL station. Parking is a pay to park gated lot. The rate is $8/day or $35 for a lost ticket. I was in Chicago for two weeks. My car was just fine and my "lost" ticket meant I only paid the rough equivalent of 4 days. The parking lot also miraculously healed my 22 year old car. I had a check engine light on when I pulled in back on May 15th, and the light was off when I pulled out on Saturday! All in all a nice trip. submitted by No_Consideration_339 to Amtrak [link] [comments] |

2023.05.29 06:40 LeutnantzurSeeFritz The Exploits of Irving Reese Part 29: It's a Wonderful Life
(You can also find this story, along with the previous parts
here and
here.)
A couple of months had passed since Halloween. The cool air of October gave way to the chill of November and December.
Before they knew it, Christmas had come. Enterprise and Irving were excited. It was Olinâs first Christmas, and their first Christmas as husband and wife.
Irving was busy helping Enterprise cook the Christmas feast. Yorktown II and Hornet II were already at their house, helping take care of Olin.
Hornet II smiled as she held Olin in her arms. âI can tell someoneâs excited for their first Christmas.â
Olin giggled and cooed. Hornet II smiled.
The group heard a doorbell chime. Irvingâs eyes went wide.
âIâll get it.â
He opened the door to see Marsala, Vittorio Veneto, Littorio, and Fabio all at the door. Vittorio Veneto was holding Lucioâs carrier.
Irving smiled. âMerry Christmas, you guys.â
The group nodded and entered the house. Irving noticed Littorio and Vittorio Veneto placed the carriers next to Olinâs.
Irving smiled as he looked at Lucio. âHeâs so cute. He has his motherâs eyes.â
Vittorio Veneto giggled. âYeah, but he got his fatherâs nose and dishwasher blonde hair.â
Enterprise leaned her head from the kitchen.
âHoney, I still need your help.â
Irving nodded and came back to the kitchen to help his wife. Vittorio Veneto was in the kitchen, helping Enterprise out, while Littorio was with Fabio and Marsala in the living room.
Enterprise smiled at Vittorio Veneto. âSo, Vittorio, how did everything go with Lucio?â
Vittorio Veneto giggled. âIt went well. All the walking I did on Halloween must have had a delayed effect, as I went into labor in afternoon on November 2nd. I first felt contractions during dinner, and I thought it was just bad gas or indigestion. My water broke while Marsala was taking a nap. â
Vittorio Veneto looked at her husband and giggled.
âOddly, Marsala was calm, as were Littorio, Fabio, Impero, Roma, and even little Maria. They drove me to the hospital. I thought Lucio was going to be quick, but he decided he wanted to take his time. Lucio Giancarlo Fasetti was born on November 3rd, at 12:01 AM. He took 9 hours and 27 minutes.â
Enterprise nodded as she listened to Vittorio Venetoâs story. âSo you got a rule fallower like Joachim is to Bismarck?â
Vittorio Veneto nodded. âYes. I have a feeling he, Louis, and Olin will get along well in the future.â
Enterprise looked at Irving and grinned. âYeah, especially Louis and Lucio, as they have very similar-sounding names.â
Vittorio Veneto closed her eyes as she smiled and nodded. âIâll be in the living room with my sister and the children if you need me.â
Soon, the doorbell chimed again. Littorio smiled as she got off the couch.
âIâll get it!â
She smiled as she opened the door. âAh, glad to see you could make it!â
Irving left the kitchen and walked to the front door. He smiled.
It was Fritz and Tirpitz. Bismarck and Heinz were behind them. All of their children had come with them.
Fritz smiled at Irving. He noticed Fritz was wearing his formal uniform, as was Heinz. Irving smiled.
âGlad to see you guys could make it!â
Fritz nodded as he sat on the couch. Soon, the doorbell chimed again. Fritz giggled as he got off the couch.
âI got itâ
Fritz laughed and smiled.
âAh, Herr Hall and Herr Jones! Glad to see you could make it!â
Malcolm and Oklahoma came inside, with Oklahoma holding Louisâs carrier. Samuel and New Jersey were with them.
Soon, everyone was at the party. Irving was busy slicing up the ham while Enterprise was getting the present wrapped up.
Suddenly, Irving heard a baby cry. He stopped what he was doing and checked on the children.
Both Louis and Olin were crying. Irving and Malcolm both looked at each other and sighed.
Irving held Olin in his arms. Malcolm was doing the same thing for Louis. Irving rocked him from side to side.
âItâs all right, little guy. Daddyâs here.â
Fritz smiled as he got up.
âHerr Reese, Let me try something.â
Irving nodded has he handed Olin to Fritz.
Fritz sat next to Tirpitz and held Olin. He smiled.
âEdelweiss, Edelweiss, every morning you greet me.â âStrong and white, clean and bright. You look happy to meet meâ Olin stopped crying upon listening to Fritzâs soft singing. Soon, he giggled.
Tirpitz smiled. Irving's mouth was open. She looked at Irving with a slight smile.
âHeh. That song always calmed down Moritz and the others when they were babies.â
Fritz smiled as Tirpitz kissed him on the cheek. Fritz placed Olin back in his carrier. Bismarck giggled.
âYeah. I remember you teaching me that song, sister. It was a great help with both Helga and Joachim.â
The group nodded. Littorio giggled.
âMine was always Ave Maria. That always seemed to calm Maria down, and I told Vittorio Veneto about it as well.â
Enterprise smiled as she leaned her head from the kitchen.
âIâm sorry to interrupt, but the food is done.â
âI hope Iâm not too late!â
The group turned to see Nevada at the front door, her jacket covered in snow. Oklahoma smiled.
âYour right on time, sis.â
âCan you do me a favor?â
Nevada nodded. âSure. What do you need?â
âI need someone to set up the watch over the kids' table.â
Nevada nodded. âSure. I got that covered.â
Nevada got to work, helping set up the small table. She smiled as she looked at the children.
âHey, kiddos! Come get a seat!â
Moritz smiled as he gestured to his siblings and cousins to follow him. With the children seated, Irving got the food out on the dining room table.
Irving and Enterprise served the food. After a while, everyone got some food.
Fritz smiled as he ate some ham. âThis ham is amazing, Irving. It tastes like something Gert would make.â
Irving was confused. âWhoâs Gert?â
Fritz smiled. âGert was our cook on a U-boat I served on back in the day. That son-of-a-â
A glare from Tirpitz stopped Fritz. She pointed at the nearby kids' table.
âGun. Could cook the best food with nothing but some hot plates, an electric oven, and a dream. I wish you got to meet him.â
Irving nodded. âI know what you mean by that last part. I wish you got to meet my old squad leader, Robert. It sounds like you guys wouldâve gotten along.â
Fritz nodded.
âItâs alright. Letâs not lament the past and try to look towards the future.â
Tirpitz placed her hand on Fritzâs lap. He smiled. Bismarck smirked.
âSpoken like a poet.â
Samuel giggled. âAy, to our futures!â
Irving smirked at Samuel. âI didnât think you would be the one to lead the toast. Guess thereâs a first time for everything.â
The group laughed as they raised their glasses in the air.
âTo our futures.â
The group clinked their glasses and ate. Nevada was hard at work watching over the children, making sure they were alright.
After they finished eating, the group made their way to the living room for presents.
However, before they could begin, the doorbell rang.
Irving got up to answer it. He opened the door.
It was the Commander. He smiled.
âI hope Iâm not too late!â
Irving smiled. âWell, you missed dinner, but you came just in time for presents.â
The Commander nodded as he entered the door.
âSorry, Iâm late guys. I was at the Royal Navyâs Christmas party.â
The group nodded.
The Commander smiled. âOh, I got these for some couples here.â
He reached into a tote bag.
The Commander handed a small cardboard box to Littorio and Fabio.
The couple opened it and gasped.
It was a Christmas ornament with Maria on it, saying âMariaâs first Christmas.â
Littorio gasped. âThank you, Commander.â
The Commander nodded as he handed both Vittorio Veneto and Marsala and Enterprise and Irving a small cardboard box.
The two couples gasped as they opened it.
Inside were Christmas ornaments, similar to the ones Littorio and Fabio had received, but they were different.
Vittorio Veneto and Marsala got one that was Lucio, and it said, âLucioâs first Christmas.â While Enterprise and Irving got one of Olin, that said âOlinâs first Christmas.â
The couple smiled at the Commander.
"Thank you, Commander."
Irving got up to place the ornament on the tree.
The Commanderâs eyes went wide as he reached into his tote bag. âOkie, Malcolm, I nearly forgot. This is for you.â
The Commander handed them a small cardboard box. Oklahoma opened it and gasped.
It was an ornament with Louis on it, saying âLouisâs first Christmas.â
The Commander smiled. âI figured I would make it special and have you guys have two baby-themed ornaments.â
Oklahoma smiled as she hugged the Commander. âThank you, Commander. That was really thoughtful.â
The Commander smiled as she placed the ornament on the tree, right next to the one she received last year.
Soon, the group unwrapped the gifts they got for each other. Irving got all the children a comic book, while Enterprise got every adult a Christmas sweater.
Everyone smiled at the gifts they received. Irving smiled.
âPersonally, being with all of you guys, after the hectic year we had, is the best Christmas gift of all.â
The group nodded as the Commander sat up. He pulled out the bottle of scotch that he got from Irving last Christmas. It was three quarters full.
âIrving, Iâve yet to finish this bottle of scotch that you gave me last Christmas. Letâs say we finish it.â
Irving nodded and got out some shot glasses. Soon, Fritz, Heinz, Malcolm, and Samuel all had shots of scotch in their hands.
After a while, the bottle was empty. The men were having trouble standing after doing at least three shots of scotch between them.
Irving was sitting in a chair. Samuel giggled.
âI suppose Iâll give the Commander his present.â
He reached under the Christmas tree for a long cardboard box that said âTo The Commander: From Sammy:â
The Commander opened the box with some help from Nevada. Inside was a bottle of whiskey. Samuel giggled.
âI suppose we make it a tradition. Every Christmas one of us gets the Commander a bottle of booze, and heâll use it for toasts. If that bottle is not empty by the time the next Christmas comes around, we all drink it at Christmas and get him another.â
The Commander nodded. âSounds like a good plan, Sammy.â
Samuel nodded. âI suppose Iâll let New Jersey tell you the next thing.â
New Jersey got up.
âEveryone.â
She pulled out a small box. The group raised their eyebrows at her.
New Jersey opened the box. Inside was a golden ring with a diamond on it.
âWeâre engaged.â
Enterpriseâs eyes went wide. She ran up to New Jersey and hugged her.
âCongrats NJ! Thatâs amazing news!â
New Jersey smiled. âI figured you would be excited about it, Enty. The wedding will be in May. I hope all of you will come to the wedding.â
The group nodded. Oklahoma smiled.
âI would not miss it for the world.â
New Jersey sat down at the table.
Enterprise looked at the men. She looked at Bismarck and Oklahoma.
âItâs clear none of them are in a state to drive. You guys feel like being drunk wranglers?â
Bismarck and Oklahoma nodded.
âYeah. We just need help to move them into a room and a person to watch over them.â
Enterprise nodded as she looked at Nevada and Tirpitz.
âNevada, Tirpitz, can you watch the children?â
Nevada and Tirpitz nodded.
Enterprise looked at Hornet II and Yorktown II.
"Can you guys set up some sleeping bags and cots for the men to sleep on in the living room? Everyone else can help me carry them to the living room."
Hornet II and Yorktown II nodded.
Soon, the other shipgirls carried the men into a room. Samuel groaned.
âShould old acquaintance be forgot?â Bismarck sighed. âGreat, one of them is singing. What should I do?â
Oklahoma sighed. âJust let him sing.â
Irving giggled.
"Clink. Clink. Another drink. Plenty in the cellar when it's gone." Enterprise sighed as she placed her husband on his side on a sleeping bag.
Soon, all the men were on sleeping bags, cots, and blankets that were spread out on the living room floor. Vittorio Veneto and Littorio all got things for the men to vomit in.
Bismarck sighed. âJesus. This is reminding me of Irvingâs bachelor party.â
Oklahoma laughed. âYeah. And this is also reminding me of Enterpriseâs bachelorette party, with all of her group passing out on my living room floor.â
Enterprise giggled. âI remember you having to be the drunk wrangler, even though you were eight months pregnant.â
Oklahoma sighed. âThat feels so long ago.â
Enterprise smiled. âA lot can happen in a year.â
Oklahoma nodded. Her eyes went wide.
âEnty, we have another problem. Where are the children going to sleep?â
Enterprise froze. She placed a finger on her chin.
Bismarck smiled. âThey could sleep with us. Moritz, Max, Marlene, Helga, and Joachim are old enough.â
Enterprise nodded. âThat only leaves Maria, Olin, Lucio, and Louis.â
Littorio raised her hand. âThe babies can sleep in the nursery in their carriers.â
Enterprise nodded. âSounds like a good plan.â
âAlright, so who will watch over the men, and who will watch over the babies?â
New Jersey and Vittorio Veneto raised their hands.
âIâll watch over the men. Vittorio Veneto will watch over the babies. The rest of us will watch over each other and the children.â
Enterprise nodded. âGot it. Iâll be in the room with the girls and the older children.â
Soon, the shipgirls went to sleep. New Jersey was on the sofa, watching over the unconscious men as if they were 24K gold bars.
Enterprise got Vittorio Veneto a cot to sleep on, and she joined the other shipgirls. She had some cots, blankets, and sleeping bags set up for the group.
A few hours passed. Suddenly, the night calm broke.
âAHHHH!â
Enterprise and the others looked around. They could see Bismarck was sitting up.
âBismarck! You alright?â
Bismarck looked down at herself and saw an odd light brown-shaped thing in her sleeping bag. She sighed.
âRelax. It's only Joachim. He scared me. He must have gotten cold and crawled into the sleeping bag with me.â
She sighed.
âCanât believe I almost punted my son across the room.â
The group sighed. But this calm was only temporary, as all the babies wailed, one after the other.
Enterprise and Oklahoma got up to check on Vittorio Veneto and the babies. They saw Vittorio Veneto. Her eyes were wide as saucers as all four babies were crying. She looked at them and sighed.
âI think Bismarckâs screaming woke them up.â
Enterprise held Olin in her arms. Oklahoma did the same with Louis, and Vittorio Veneto held Lucio in her arms.
Littorio joined the group, holding Maria in her arms.
âAve Maria, Vergin del cielâ Maria stopped crying upon hearing her motherâs singing. The other babies also stopped crying.
Littorio smiled as, one by one, the babies went back to sleep. She giggled.
âHuh. I guess the babies like music.â
Enterprise smiled and placed Olin back in his crib. The other women did the same by placing their babies back into their carriers.
Enterprise made her way to the living room, where New Jersey was. New Jersey was sitting on the couch, trying not to fall asleep.
Enterprise smiled at her as she sat next to her. âIt sounds like this Christmas is one we will never forget.â
New Jersey giggled. âYeah, but we will have one hell of a mess to clean up in the morning.â
Enterprise nodded as she grabbed a plaid blanket. She saw Irving lying on his side and smiled. She lay down next to him and covered themselves with the blanket.
Soon, she fell asleep.

The Concept This is a league for fantasy hockey players who love to rebuild and scout junior hockey players. Basically, you have your NHL Squad of 23 players which fights for the $800 Stanley Cup Cash Prize. Let's say your team sucks and you are in a lengthy rebuild, doesn't it get boring and expensive waiting those years for your teams rebuild to potentially show positive results? Not necessarily...
In this league you also have your Minors squad of up to 30 players who are all NHL affiliated prospects. Each week you set a lineup using your prospects and it gets scored using their junior or pro stats. Your minors squad makes up your AHL team which fights for the $250 Calder Cup Cash Prize.
2 Teams Available Minnesota Wild -

2023.05.29 03:07 shroomcircle Trip report: Solo female, 5 nights
Just wanted to jump on and give a rundown of what I did. I had an amazing time and I was really grateful for all the advice and tips I got here. It really helped me settle in and have an amazing time.
I practice a lot of fasting so I didnât eat as much as many people on here, but for me it was a lot!
Hereâs what I did:
Day 1
Arrived to my hotel at Creole Gardens Guesthouse, which is a fabulous gem of a place in the lower garden district.
It was getting late and I was hungry so I followed their recommendation of eating at Superior Seafood and Oyster. I had a crawfish cake type appetiser and a salad. As an Australian, I found both to be really sweet and also really salty at the same time.
I caught the streetcar along St Charles to get there, and it was lovely, but deciding to walk the same route back wasnât such a great vibe when it got dark. Ubers at dusk!
Day 2
I couldnât resist my urge to walk, so after researching the neighbourhoods and so on, I walked over to Bearcat in the CBD. This was the first of many times I crossed under the interstate and it was fine. The homeless folks there are just doing their best and I had no trouble.
At bearcat I was intending just to have a coffee, but the vibe was that just sitting to have a drink isnât really what they want. The latte in a nice pottery mug was really good, but the keto pancakes were a bit meh, and I didnât finish them.
Then I trekked along Chatres to the Pharmacy museum, which was fantastic; I spent a good while in there.
I decided to check out Verti Marte for lunch, not realising it doesnât have any seating. Loved the vibe of the proprieter and hoped to get back another day. His mate pointed me up to the french market so after consulting reddit I tried meals from the heart. I ordered a crab cake and after paying the equivalent of $25 Aussie I received one small crab cake on a shred of lettuce. I guess for the money I hoped it would be more substantial. It was real crab and very fresh, but a bit of a bank breaker when I am getting just 61c to the aussie dollar!
After that I wandered on the treme end of bourbon street, went to the Jazz museum and saw the Louis prima exhibit and then did a Passby the touristy end of bourbon. That was already enough for me.
After a freshen up I looked for dinner and tried Corporation Bar and Grill which is meant to have great authentic new orleans specials. It only serves lunch though so as a non drinker I had a club soda and fed the house doggo cheezits. I was getting pretty hungry though and maybe even hangry after the false starts so I ended up at Gusâs World famous fried chicken and had some chicken and fried pickles. It was very good!
Later on I went to the jam at the Royal Frenchman Hotel. Good sounds and I met a guitarist from local band The Swinging Gypsies, who invited me to sit in with his band the next day. Dream come true. I agreed enthusiastically!
Day 3
I needed some slow vibes so I caught the streetcar up St Charles all the way to Upline in Uptown and then wandered along Magazine St checking out all the shops. I started with La Boulangerie and they make a great iced latte there. Very authentic.
I went to every vintage store on the way back towards the quarter and had brunch at Atchafalaya. I had the crab poâboy there and I think that was where I realised that I just donât love southern food. It was good, crispy fried crab in the bread, but like everywhere else I found it salty and the bread sweet. It was a lovely spot to sit though and others seemed to be digginâ their meals.
I walked all the way back to my guesthouse along magazine st, and did some great shopping at places along the way.
I met with Kook Teflon, a local medium and ancestral guide and did a great reading a d workshop with her. I highly recommend her to anyone interested in that sort of work. Sheâs also an amazing performance artist.
I got dolled up for the gig and headed over to Fritzels to see the Swinging Gypsies. They were bloody amazing, and I was invited to sing three songs with them. I felt like all my Christmases had come at once!
After the gig I did another walk down bourbon. Woah! Itâs really intense especially if you donât drink and are in a chill solo vibe! When I got back to the guesthouse my body was screaming for salad, so I ordered a vietnamese vermicelli salad from Ba Chi Canteen. It was huge and could have fed a family!
Day 4
I did High Priest Robiâs Voodou tour and it was an absolute highlight. Robi is an incredible historian and a real Character. He is not for the faint of heart but he is going to give you an incredible insight into real Voudou and the history of Congo square.
After the tour I decided to try a beignet and had some from Lorettas for brunch. I really did enjoy them they were absolutely delish. I got plain ones and listened to a band at the french market.
I then wandered around again and bought some perfume at Hove, which is also an historical experience.
My body was still screaming for fresh food so for dinner I went to Carmo. Oh my lord it is amazing! I had the Burmese fermented tea leaf salad and creole fish ceviche. Their mocktail was amazing and I was so enamoured of the food I ended with this Armenian âBanquette breadâ which was like a flat bread pan fried with banana, cinnamon and harvarti. Absolute winner!
Preservation hall after that and Haruka Kikuchi on the trombone with the allstars was a total winner!
Another walk down bourbon on the way home. It was even crazier as the long weekend approached!
Day 5
I wanted to see some nature and get in touch with the land so I signed up for the nola kayak tours morning trip. It was a great experience and we saw a gator, turtles, snakes and the guide gave us some great info about the manchak swamp region.
Iâd hoped to go on a cemetery tour with Sally from Red Sash tours, she is the expert and has written books on the topic, but ai had another tour of treme in the evening planned so thought my dance card was full. Well the dude pulled out last minute which sucked, so I missed out on Sallyâs tour as well.
I walked along the river and up magazine st to Surreys where my uber driver had recommended I eat. Nice place and I gave southern food one more try with shrimp And grits. I am sure it was a really good shrimp and grits but I realised itâs just not for me. Creamy savoury porridge with prawns. No!
Later I headed to Frenchman st to see some tunes and who did I spy at Bamboulas but the Swinging Gypsies. I went in for a drink and before I knew it I was singing with the band again!
After that I went to the spotted cat and saw the incredible all female jazz band The Shake it up jazz band, with Haruka Kikuchi on bone again. What a vibe that was!
I was pretty tired after the kayak tour where I had a double kayak alone in a strong headwind so i walked back to my guesthouse via carmo again. It was that good!
I walked about 18,000 steps a day, had many a culinary experience and really felt the magic of New Orleans.
I missed out on Toups, Verti Mart, the sculpture garden and city park, the tree of life uptown, bacchanal, oscar rossignoli at snug harbour, palm and pine, igors laundry and so much more! Next time I hope!

2023.05.29 00:44 ILoveWesternBlot Mouthbreather's """Guide""" on matching Diagnostic Radiology
Iâm an MS4 that fully matched DR this year. I had 21 interviews for DR and matched my top 3 for both DR and intern year. I wanted to share some of my thoughts/reflections/things I wish I knew applying into diagnostic radiology this past cycle. There have been writeups in the past but in the era of virtual interviews, mass applying, and record application numbers, I thought Iâd talk a little about how I think the application landscape is changing for radiology and my lowly n=1 opinions on how rads hopefuls can prepare themselves. This is colored mostly by personal experience so obviously take it all with a tablespoon of salt. Everyoneâs story is different, Iâm just sharing what I learned from my journey.
This year, there were 0 unfilled spots for DR and 2 for IR (those spots were programs that didnât participate in the main NRMP match cycle, and one nucs med spot thatâs being internally filled). For reference, the only other specialties that also filled completely were ortho and Plastics. Neurosurgery, ENT, and Derm all had unfilled spots. This isnât to suggest that DR is now more competitive than those fields (itâs not, those fields are still far more self selecting and you donât need to be proficient in softball to match) but just emphasizes how cutthroat the field has gotten in the past couple of years.
Disclaimers: Iâm writing from the perspective of a (low tier) USMD. If youâre a DO or IMG, you can probably learn stuff from this info as well but truthfully Iâm not fully familiar with all the extra hurdles DOs and IMGs go through to match DR and I donât want to espouse misleading information for you guys. Connecting with matched DOâs and IMGâs on the discord or spreadsheet will be in your best interest. Also, I only applied DR. The broad strokes advice may still apply here but IR is pretty different in terms of your application and approach so if youâre gunning for integrated IDR you may not glean much from this.
--------------------------------Application Foundations--------------------------------
School Rank: Yea no shit this matters. In general USMD >> DO >>>> IMG except for a couple programs that are IMG heavy (Mercy catholic, Yale bridgeport as examples) No, this isnât Yaleâs main program you prestige whore If youâre at a T20 why are you reading this. Youâll match by virtue of existing. Go outside.
DOs and IMGs really struggled with the match this year and it will not get better. If youâre a premed reading this and choosing a school and youâre at all interested in DR or any other competitive specialty then attending an MD school with an attached academic centehome program is your best bet.
Step 2
With step 1 now P/F this will be the big number programs use I think. My general benchmark estimates:
Sub 240- would consider this to be a genuine weakness/borderline red flag in your app, Iâd make the effort to compensate in other areas of your application
240- will probably put you among the weaker end of radiology applicants, but not unworkable
250- baseline goal you should shoot for, basically the average range of matched applicants
260- a great score, theoretically makes you competitive for any program in the country depending on the rest of your app
270- đ€
If you fail step 2 or step 1, your app is dead in the water.
Iâm gonna get like 50 comments saying shit like âwell I know xyz student who matched UCSF rads with a 196!!!â yea well as you can see by the length of this post scores arenât everything. Anyone can match with anything theoretically. But these score benchmarks at least let you get an idea of your competitiveness relative to the rest of the pack, which is important for building the rest of your app. Bottom line: P/250 should be ok as a USMD. P/260 is ideal tho. DOâs should shoot for P/260 as a baseline I think.
DOâs- take both steps. Yes, even though step 1 is P/F. This is non negotiable. Programs do not give a single shit about COMLEX even if their site says they accept it.
Clinical Grades
Donât need perfect grades, but honor as many as you can. Do whatever is necessary outside of academic dishonesty. Practice your head game. This isnât a guide on how to honor rotations, those exist elsewhere. Honors in big rotations (IM, surgery) mean more than smaller ones. How much Honors vs HP vs P impacts you depends on your schoolâs grade breakdown. If youâre High passing when 45% of your class is honoring thatâs less than ideal. If only 5% of your class honors then HP is fine. If youâre Passing and your school is P/F then youâre chilling. DONâT FAIL A CLERKSHIP. You probably will not match. If your school publishes shelf grades in your MSPE, donât fumble those. Avoid shitty MSPE comments and try to get those scrubbed from your record.
Preclinical Grades
Donât matter as much as clinical grades, especially if they don't factor into AOA. Doing well in preclinicals doesnât hurt though, and being bottom quintile certainly wonât help. Donât fail anything. Probably not as big of a deal as failing clerkships but you donât want any red flags in your app no matter how small.
AOA
Nice to have. I was AOA and had several programs comment on it. If youâre squinting for patterns mostly community programs and lower tier academics actively mentioned it (âCongrats on AOAâ or âI see youâre academically strong, since youâre AOAâ and comments of that ilk were what I heard). The big name programs I interviewed at did not mention it, so not sure if they care. If youâre gonna rant about how AOA is a diversity award/popularity contest go soapbox somewhere else. You definitely do NOT need AOA to match radiology (the vast majority of people that match donât, I was the only rads match from my school in AOA). Iâm just commenting on my thoughts on how much it impacts your app, not making a political statement.
GHHS
No one gave a shit. This is a mickey mouse award
Research
Do something. This isnât ortho, you donât need 20 first author papers in the field. But do something. Does not have to be rads related, unless youâre gunning to match Stanford/UCSF/MGH/NYU or the like. For reference, I had several pubs/presentations/posters in non rads fields that were based on interesting clinical/translational studies. I also had 2 first author radiology case reports. Every interviewer asked about the clinical projects. No one mentioned the case reports. Obviously rads clinical research would be the ideal, but the point here is to not only demonstrate academic productivity, but to have something interesting/memorable to talk about in interviews. 20 case reports isnât a conversation starter. Original research, even in another field, is a conversation starter. Original rads research is harder to do as students generally canât read scans which is a big part of most studies but if you can swing it itâs awesome.
Canât comment for sure on numbers, NRMP says like 8 total items which sounds about right. Iâd try to do like 1-2 clinical research projects (in any field, no need to be super anal about radiology) and then fill the rest with case reports. ACR case in point is a good place to pump those out if you have a good mentor (RIP RSNA case reports). Radiology Case Reports has a publishing fee but turnover time is like 1 week so you can really go hard in that journal if your department pays for it.
Former surgical subspecialty switchouts/dual apps, youâll be okay (I was one of those) Radiology accepts people like you all the time, including residents that match these fields then regret it. I wanted to do a surgical subspec before rads and had a decent body of research in that field. Bonus points if that ENT work you did looked at imaging, Itâs an easy pivot on interviews! Like I said before, this isnât ortho. Research productivity doesnât compensate for poor grades and scores, and you canât kill an away like you could in surgical subspecs. So make sure your raw grades/scores are good as they build the foundation of your app. Good grades/scores with low research >> great research with shitty grades/scores.
Bonus: If any research work you did involved coding, statistical programming, or machine learning, try to swing it as a budding interest in AI. Many programs, especially academic ones, get their dicks hard the minute someone mentions AI/deep learning models.
Conferences: Unfortunately, networking is becoming more of a thing in radiology as is the fate of any competitive field in a world of less objective metrics. If you can present at RSNA or ACR or SIR or any other conference, absolutely take the opportunity. Introduce yourself to as many PDâs and APDâs as possible, plant the idea of your existence as a seed into their subconscious. If you have nothing to present, I don't know how much value these conferences would have though unless you're a rizz god or somethng. I canât comment on this too much because I did literally none of this but if your above application metrics are weak then Iâd highly recommend doing this. As a terminally online introvert with the personality of a cement block I think networking is cringe but you gotta play the game. IMGs/DOs should especially be trying to do this.
Extracurriculars/Work Experience
No one really cares about interest groups. No one cares if you worked in the student clinic. Programs do care if you did an interesting service/leadership activity. I had one cool service activity I did in preclinicals that got brought up in every interview (wasnât rads related at all). Make sure you can speak well on what the activity entailed and how you personally contributed.
Nontrads with previous work experience, wear it like a badge of honor. It makes you more interesting as an applicant. I canât comment on it firsthand because I went straight through but anything that makes your story more than âI was premed in college and now Iâm in medical schoolâ is gonna be a talking point on interviews.
--------------------------------Building your App--------------------------------
Letters of Recommendation
IMO the best setup for this is 1 radiology letter and 2 nonradiology clinical letters. Assuming all you did was a rads rotation and little else, a radiology LOR is going to inherently be weak. Students donât do much besides shadow on rads rotations and everyone knows it, so whatâs it gonna say? âOh student X sat there like a good little boy/girl and didnât fall asleep in the reading room please RTM them :)â -yeah not the best letter pal. Your clinical letters on the other hand can actually speak to your ability as a medical student so they can be more impressive. The specialty doesnât matter too much, just make sure they can speak strongly on your ability as a future resident.
If youâre wondering how to get a good rads letter, the best answer is to do research with a rads mentor. Then they can say that youâre academically productive and worked well on projects which makes your letter nicer. If you do research with multiple rads mentors, thatâs the only instance in which Iâd get a second Rads letter.
How you set up your 4th year rotations should depend on what you need. If you arenât sure about getting a good nonrads letter, do a Sub I, especially in IM or Surgery- I really really recommend this as a great way to get a good letter or two. If youâre a newer switch into the field do a rads rotation to get a letter. Honestly your rads letter is more of a checkbox at that point than anything else but having one at least confirms youâre not blatantly backup applying.
Dual/backup appliers should get try to get one rads letter from a rotation. Also, make sure your other letters donât say how great of an orthopedic surgeon youâre gonna be lol donât get snitched on by your own homies
Away Rotations
Ding ding ding the big million dollar question. You probably scrolled to look for this. I am of the opinion that yes, you should do an away if you can. This is coming from someone who didnât do one. Now, they arenât mandatory like they are for surgical subspecialties, but you should try to fit one into your schedule if you can. With step 1 going pass fail and the increasing number of apps, programs are looking for more ways to separate applicants from the flock. Away rotations can be your key. Some general guidelines:
1. DO A ROTATION AT A PROGRAM YOU WOULD BE ALREADY BE COMPETITIVE AT. Doing an away at a rotation at a program does not guarantee an interview. This may sound lame, but think about it- all you do on most DR aways is shadow, or maybe take an exam or present on a topic. Thatâs nice but it tells a program nothing about how good youâd actually be as a resident. This is why I made a big deal of being able to assess your relative competitiveness as an applicant. Use texas star and residency explorer to get a better idea of this- if youâre in the upper 25% of matched applicants statistics then itâs probably a good idea to do an away there. Donât rotate at UCSF or MGH if youâre a DO or have below average stats- youâre not gonna get an interview and youâre gonna waste everyoneâs time.
2. Aways should not take precedence over important application building rotations. If you need a non radiology letter and youâre debating between doing an away vs doing a sub I in medicine, the answer is the sub I. A strong application with no aways > weaker app with an away IMO. Getting letters from aways is hard to say. Do it if you donât have a home program. Otherwise, itâs probably more valuable to build a strong connection to your home program and get radiology letter(s) there.
3. If youâre looking to match in an area that you have no educational/personal ties to, do an away there. If youâre from the midwest and want to match in NYC, do an away in NYC. If youâre looking to match to california and arenât attending medical school there, do an away in Cali. Unless youâre a superstar candidate you will probably see poor yields in areas outside of your med school/hometown area so an away can help boost yields. That being said, rule 1 takes precedence here.
4. I donât recommend getting LORâs from away programs. The big exception here is if you donât have a home program, in which case then you should. Itâs just that these letters are probably gonna be mid at best and home rads letters where the PD/writer knew you for longer will probably be of better quality. Again, everyone is different-maybe you really really vibed with an away faculty and want a letter from them. If you are confident itâll be a really quality letter, then go for it. But donât strategize your app around getting letters from MGH or NYu or Stanford and thinking this is like surgical subspecs where you do aways at places for great letters- itâs not.
Make sure to apply early and broadly- itâs first come first serve for most programs. If you havenât finished your app and submitting to programs already, youâre probably running late. Oops, probably should probably have submitted this sooner. This is what League of Legends does to you folks. Try to do research and ask around about what programs highly value away rotators. I have some leads but there are definitely many many others out there.
NYC- Mt. Sinai Icahn SOM- great away experience, gave interviews to away rotators
PA- Einstein Philly- highly highly values away rotators/demonstrated interest in the program
CA- Santa Barbara Cottage- gave interviews to away rotators, great âfootholdâ program into CA
CA- Cedars Sinai- another great âfootholdâ program into CA
Shoutout to these programs for doing the exact opposite:
Wash U St. Louis- rejected an away rotator 3 weeks into the away (per name and shame)
UMD- did not provide interviews to multiple away rotators
FYI both programs I listed above are great places to train at, and programs are under no obligation to give interviews to away rotators, especially in DR. Just know if you rotate there that you should prepare for this possibility.
Post-ERAS submission aways are probably still valuable especially early on in interview season. The only thing is that you wonât be able to get LORs from those but I think LORâs from away rads programs are almost guaranteed to be mid at best so Iâd recommend not building your app around those unless you have no home program.
Signals
The other million dollar question. This year apparently applicants get 6 gold and 6 silver signals. I think the best thing to do with signals is just send them to where you wanna go. I have no clue why anyone would want a silver signal, but I donât think itâs worth the headache of trying to mindgame which programs are getting silvers and which are getting golds. Send your golds to the ones you really like, and your silvers to the ones you also like but maybe not as much. Donât overthink it.
My only advice regarding signals is to NOT signal big name academic centers. UCSF, NYU, MGH, Upenn, etc do not put much weight into signals. They know everyone wants to train with them so they get their pick of the litter. Sending a signal to them is likely throwing your signal in the trash, especially if your application metrics arenât at or above their matched averages. I think you get the most bang for your buck from signaling smallemid tier academic centers and community programs. That being said, Iâm not your dad. Signal who you want.
PS ask your home program if they want you to signal them. Some donât but others are dickheads and want one of your signals. Make sure you know.
Hobbies/Experiences
Damn i dont know what the fuck theyâre smoking at AAMC with this change but I guess I can talk about it. Sounds like common sense but talk about shit thatâs actually meaningful and you can talk freely and confidently/passionately about in interviews. Especially now since you have limited space. The student clinic you and 1000 med students volunteered at probably doesnât mean much. Oh, you led the student clinic? Well thatâs a lot better, you should talk about that. Activities where you took a leadership role are always gonna be more meaningful and interesting in interviews than stuff you were just a floater in. Gonna copy and paste a comment I made a while ago about putting research as experiences in your ERAS. Applies to any specialty I think:
Publications and "experiences" are different parts of your ERAS application, with Pubs having no cap. You can enter any publication as a "research experience" but you'll need to think a little harder about which ones you wanna put in.
For example, if you do a small filler case report and it gets published in a smaller journal, this is a publication and should be in your ERAS publication section. You could enter it as a research experience as well, where you describe the process you went through to get it written and published. However, this would not be a very meaningful experience and a waste of one of your ten entries.
Let's say you lead a longitudinal translational research project in your field of interest that gets presented at a conference as an abstract, and then subsequently published in a large journal. Both the abstract and the pub will, again, go in your ERAS pubs section. However, this would also make a great research experience to use in your experiences tab. You could talk about how you led the project, the role you played in completing it, where it was presented, etc. This would make for a strong candidate in your experiences tab.
TL;DR: Smaller filler projects are pubs but shouldn't be listed in experiences. Larger important projects should be publications and also listed as a research experience. Hope this makes sense.
I would highly highly recommend including some space for hobbies in your eras. DR interviews are like 80% hobby talk, 10% why rads, 10% random shooting the shit. You donât need to have insanely interesting hobbies- even mundane stuff is great conversation food. I talked about TV (almost spoiled an interview on Better Call Saul's ending) and manga (Chainsaw Man my love) in some of my interviews. Just be sure youâre genuine in those interests and can talk about them. Donât fabricate a hobby like underwater basket weaving to make yourself look cool because if you sound fake then thatâs gonna be an almost instant DNR. My home PD told me a story of a great applicant they DNRâed because he said he loved fly fishing in his hobbies section and our PD (who loves fly fishing) asked about it he couldnât talk anything about it. because it was made up. Yeah, donât do that.
Probably 2-3 hobbies and elaborate a little on each. Donât just say running- were you on any competitive teams? Did you run a marathon/halfy/5k? Give some meat to it but not your whole life story.
Personal Statement
I feel very unconfident in talking about this part so I wonât say too much. I was told my PS was good but no one really commented on it in interviews. I think the 10/80/10 rule applies here- 80% of PSâs don't move the needle in any way, 10% are profound, 10% suck ass. Youâre not gonna be in that top 10% most likely so just try not to be in that bottom 10%. Spell check, and donât talk about how you wanna do rads because of lifestyle or because you âLike PUZZLESâ -itâs generic as fuck. Have as many eyes on it as possible- your mentors, your friends, your parents, your parole officer, Dealer Jim- get as much feedback on it as possible. Just make sure it doesnât suck or unintentionally reveal any personality disorders- that time you lit a live squirrel on fire and looking at the bones made you interested in Xrays is probably not a good radiology PS.
Conclusions/I skipped to the bottom
Rads is getting pretty competitive. Iâd say itâs not on the level of the surgical subspecs/derm but probably the most competitive one of the remaining ones. Itâs still not too bad if youâve built a decent app- Iâm not gonna hype it up like the psych and gas doomposters, but itâs not a walk in the park like it was pre-COVID. Especially if youâre a DO or IMGâŠ.
My spicy prediction we will see a small dip in application numbers this cycle- ChatGPT âconcernsâ and people realizing itâs not a safe backup may cause a small decrease in app numbers- but the process is becoming more opaque with tiered signals and more importantly P/F step 1.
TL;DR:
-GET GOOD STEP 2 SCORE. 250+ goal, 260+ ideal if you want to feel safer but I don't think there's really a safe score nowadays
-GOOD GRADES IN MEDICAL SCHOOL- honors and HPâs, donât low pass. DONâT FAIL ANYTHING. Be top tertile/quintile/quartile/kitchentile or whatever your school does.
-DO SOME RESEARCH- a couple case reports and a independent project or two that you can talk about is your goal. Donât need 10+ pubs like an ENT manwhore but donât have nothing.
-DO AN AWAY AT A TARGET RANGE PROGRAM. Know your competitiveness and choose your away intelligently. Donât ego it. Do it in a region youâd potentially like to match in especially if you donât have prior ties. Again, not mandatory but it can really help.
-BE A REAL PERSON- youâre not a stat stick. Mention hobbies, ecs, prior jobs that you can talk about in interviews. The first 3 points get you the interview- itâs these last two points that get you the match.
I hope this helps a little. I wish I wrote this in march post match because then some of this advice would have been more timely like the aways but what can you do.
I might do a part 2 on interviews and rank lists and what I think you should look for in a program so let me know if that's something you might be interested in. I feel like those are later cycle questions and wouldn't be super relevant right now. Plus I've already procrastinated on writing this up when I said I would so I try to write that this shit is never gonna get done.
Other matched rads people feel free to chime in/correct me/share your experiences. I don't claim to be a know it all for this process by any means I still wonder how I managed to pull the devious heist on the program that matched me.
Iâm willing to take DMâs if you have more specific/personal questions but no butthole pics please.

How Can Writers Use Notion AI?
Having experimented with Notion AI (both as an early beta tester and using the plan currently available to all users), here are some of the top use cases demonstrating the value of Notion AI for writers:
1. Summarizing Written Content
Notion AI offers an easy to use, one click command, that automatically summarizes a portion of text highlighted.
For the purposes of this example, I entered the text of a recent WSJ article, Fed Minutes Show Most Officials Favored Quarter-Point Rate Rise.
The original article text is listed below: Most Federal Reserve officials thought slowing the pace of interest-rate increases at their meeting three weeks ago offered the best way to balance the risks of doing too much or too little to combat inflation, but some warned against the hazards of slowing or stopping rate increases too soon.
âA number of participants observed that a policy stance that proved to be insufficiently restrictive could halt recent progress in moderating inflationary pressures,â said the minutes of the Jan. 31-Feb. 1 meeting, released Wednesday.
Fed officials unanimously approved raising their benchmark federal-funds rate by a quarter percentage point to a range between 4.5% and 4.75% on Feb. 1. That increase followed six larger increases, including a half percentage point in December.
Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday the central bank will raise interest rates a quarter-percentage-point. Powell said more increases will likely be needed to continue lowering inflation.
The minutes of the gathering said that âalmost all participants agreed that it was appropriateâ to raise rates by a quarter point, or 25 basis points. Many of these officials âobserved that a further slowing in the pace of rate increases would better allow them to assess the economyâs progress⊠as they determine the extent of future policy tightening,â the minutes said.
But a few participants favored or would have also agreed to a larger half-point move, the minutes said. âThe participants favoring a 50-basis-point increase noted that a larger increase would more quickly bring the target range close to the levels they believed would achieve a sufficiently restrictive stance,â the minutes said.
Their discussion suggested another increase of a quarter point was likely at their next meeting on March 21-22. Since then, new data indicated stronger economic activity and slower progress on inflation than previously expected, which could keep the Fed raising rates longer than anticipated before the latest reports.
At the time of the recent meeting, Fed Chair Jerome Powell was facing increasing skepticism from investors over whether the central bank would continue raising rates because economic activity had been mixed around yearâs end, with signs that consumer spending had moderated and weakness in the hard-hit housing sector was spreading to manufacturing. Investors were also anticipating rate cuts later this year.
The Fed raises rates to combat inflation by slowing the economy through tighter financial conditionsâsuch as higher borrowing costs, lower stock prices and a stronger dollarâthat curb demand.
Most Fed officials projected in December that they would raise the fed-funds rate to 5.1% this year, which would imply quarter-point rate increases at their next two meetings, in March and May. More than a third of officials anticipated lifting the rate above 5.25%. No officials projected rate cuts this year.
Some officials at the meeting observed that any continued easing in financial conditions could require the Fed to raise rates to higher levels or keep them at higher levels for longer than anticipated.
In the three weeks since they met, fresh U.S. economic reports showed that hiring and retail spending surged in January. The unemployment rate fell to 3.4%, a 53-year low, surprising economists who have long anticipated that Fed rate increases would slow economic growth soon. Economic growth also has rebounded in Europe, further easing worries of a global recession this year.
As a result, investors now expect the Fed to lift the fed-funds rate to around 5.4% in Juneâmore than central bank officials had projected in December.
Inflationâs swift decline late last year also stalled in January. The 12-month inflation rate edged down to 6.4% last month from 6.5% in December and a recent high of 9.1% in June, according to the Labor Department. The departmentâs widely followed gauge, the consumer-price index, rose a sturdy 0.5% in January from the month before, a sign of still strong price pressures.
Two Fed presidents said last week they would have supported a larger half-point rate rise at the last meeting, rather than the quarter-point increase approved. One of them, Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester, said officials arenât limited to quarter-point steps. âWe can move faster, and we can do bigger [increases] at any particular meeting.â
St. Louis Fed President James Bullard also said he would support moving as quickly as possible to raise the fed-funds rate to 5.4%. âI donât see much merit in delaying our approach to that level,â he told reporters last week.
Most other Fed officials have expressed a preference for quarter-point increases. Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin told reporters last week he liked that approach âbecause I believe it gives us the flexibility to respondâ depending on how the economy evolves.
Mr. Barkin said he didnât favor moving rapidly to an estimated peak rate before pausing because he isnât confident the central bank can gauge how much its past rate moves are slowing the economy. âThat theory, to me, requires more confidence in understandingâ the effectiveness of tighter rate policy âthan I have,â he said.
Overall inflation had slowed in recent months largely because of falling prices of energy and other goods. Large increases in housing costs have slowed, but havenât yet filtered through to official price gauges. Mr. Powell has nevertheless justified continued rate increases by pointing to still-tight labor markets, elevated wage pressures and high inflation for labor-intensive services.
Mr. Barkin noted the surprising strength in January spending and hiring, but said he wasnât ready to substantially revise his economic outlook because of the potential for unusual seasonal volatility, including a longer holiday spending season in the fourth quarter, warmer weather and changes in how employers are managing their staffing given recent difficulties hiring workers.
Investorsâ shifting expectations about the Fed could already be helping the central bank because interest-rate policies work through financial markets. Changes to the anticipated trajectory of rates, and not just what the Fed does at any meeting, can influence broader financial conditions.
Since November, anticipation of a milder interest-rate path led financial conditions to ease somewhat after tightening substantially last year. The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate, for example, jumped from 4% one year ago to 7% in November. It then edged lower, to around 6% earlier this month.
Over the past two weeks, however, financial conditions have tightened again as investors anticipate an interval of higher short-term interest rates. Mortgage lenders have reported rates are returning back to 7% in recent days.
After a few seconds, Notion AI generated the following text summarizing the article:

While not perfect, this is a really good summarization of a complex article/topic. And the Notion AI tool also provided options for further editing this text, including making the summary longer, rewriting the entire summary, or replacing a section of the article.
2. Changing Tone of Text
Another great feature of Notion AI is its ability to change the tone of text.
For example, I used the following excerpt from a Washington Post article on winter weather: A strong, intensifying storm system continued its trek across the Lower 48 early Wednesday, unleashing high-impact winter weather that could cause widespread power outages and grind travel to a halt. At least 75 million Americans are under winter storm, ice storm, blizzard warnings or winter weather advisories.
In addition to hefty precipitation in much of the Midwest and parts of the Plains, there could also be snow in notably low elevations â including in areas that rarely see measurable snowfall. Even the Los Angeles County mountains are included in a rare blizzard warning â the first issued by the National Weather Service office there since 1989. Snow levels could descend to below 1,000 feet elevation as extreme anomalous cold at high altitudes whips up a serious elevation storm.
That same lobe of frigid air aloft is also spawning a surface low thatâs marching across the country. Over the Upper Midwest and the northern Plains, up to two feet of snow could fall in what the National Weather Service office in Minneapolis is calling a historic winter storm. It could prove to be a top-5 event in the Twin Cities, where blizzard warnings slice through the metro.
On the southern fringe of the snowfall, mild air a mile above the ground will favor freezing rain, with a quarter- to a half-inch of ice accumulation, or glaze, possible in some areas. Parts of the Corn Belt and Michigan are expected to be hardest hit, including places like Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or Lansing, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor in Michigan.
The storm should finish its cross-country assault in the Northeast late Thursday into Friday, where additional winter storm warnings are in effect for northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.
I then used the Notion AI change tone function, and selected the âcasual optionâ:
The Notion AI tool then quickly generated the following text: Wowza, weâve got a major storm system heading across the US of A, bringing some serious winter weather that could knock out power and put a stop to travel plans. Thatâs no joke, folks! It looks like around 75 million Americans are under winter storm, ice storm, blizzard warnings or winter weather advisories, so you know this is serious business.
And get this, itâs not just heavy precipitation weâre talking about â parts of the Midwest and Plains could get snow, and weâre talking about areas that donât usually see snowfall. The Los Angeles County mountains are even included in a rare blizzard warning â the first one issued by the National Weather Service office there in over 30 years! The snow could even come down to below 1,000 feet elevation. Yikes!
Thereâs a lobe of frigid air up high thatâs causing all of this, and itâs also spawning a surface low thatâs going across the country. In the Upper Midwest and the northern Plains, weâre talking up to two feet of snow in what the National Weather Service office in Minneapolis is calling a historic winter storm. Thatâs right, it could be a top-5 event in the Twin Cities, where blizzard warnings are all over the place.
On the southern edge of the snowfall, freezing rain is likely, and some areas could see a quarter- to a half-inch of ice accumulation. The Corn Belt and Michigan are expected to be hit hard, including places like Dubuque and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, or Lansing, Kalamazoo and Ann Arbor in Michigan.
This storm is going to finish up with a bang in the Northeast late Thursday into Friday, where more winter storm warnings are in effect for northern New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Stay safe out there, folks!
While perhaps a bit over the top, it definitely demonstrates the AI tools ability to create content using different tones.
3. Writing Social Media Posts
While the previous two use cases demonstrate the Notion AI toolâs ability to synthesize and mimic different forms of text, this next example shows its power to create text based off of very short prompts. Specifically, how it can quickly generate social media posts.
I selected the option from the Notion AI menu to write a social media post. It asked for me to enter a prompt to complete this sentence:
Write a social media post about_____________
And I simply entered â
spring cleaning.â
In response, it generated the following social media post (including the hashtags):
Spring is here and itâs time for some cleaning! Whether itâs decluttering your home, organizing your closet, or deep cleaning those hard-to-reach areas, now is the perfect time to get started. A little bit of cleaning can go a long way in making your space feel refreshed and renewed. Donât forget to donate any items you no longer need to charity or recycle them responsibly. Letâs all welcome spring with a clean and organized home!
#springcleaning #declutter #organization #cleanhome #refreshed #renewed #donate #recycle
While not perfect, I didnât give the AI tool much information, so I was fairly impressed with this output.
4. Writing a Blog Post
Similar to the last use case, I wanted to further text the Notion AI toolâs ability to generate written content. So I selected the âwrite a blog postâ option and entered the following prompt:
The tool generated the following blog post:

Overall, I was very impressed with how quickly it generated this grammatically correct and well written blog post. Itâs worth noting that once the Notion AI tool finishes generating the text, there is a button you can click to make the article longer, which it also does with ease.
5. Finding Action Items
Last, I wanted to test the âfinding action itemsâ tool. To do this, I found a publicly available copy of a countyâs meeting minutes over their local water authority (see PDF here):
I then ran the text through the AI tool, using the âfind action items toolâ:
Notion AI generated the following:
- - [ ] Purchase hydrants to replace existing hydrants in the Pinebrook Water System
- - [ ] Complete the activation of the system, replacing the hydrants, and other miscellaneous punch list items to complete the Pinebrook Water Interconnection Project
- - [ ] Engage legal counsel to advise on the assignment from Global Foundries to Onsemi
- - [ ] Request a preliminary meeting with the Poughkeepsie Joint Water Board to discuss issues and concerns regarding the assignment from Global Foundries to Onsemi
- - [ ] Speak to the Deputy County Executive, Ron Hicks in regard to the request to assign the water sale agreement to Onsemi
- - [ ] Consider retaining auditors, RBT to review Onsemiâs financials
- - [ ] Follow up with Ron Haase, Rust & Co. about purchasing the Market Street Plant
Overall, I was very impressed with the ability of the AI tool to generate action items. Since many Notion users (students, office workers, etc.) use Notion for note taking, this seems like an extremely valuable feature.
Conclusion
The examples of Notionâs AI tool make a strong case for adding the Notion AI tool to your writer toolkit! And the examples above only represent a fraction of the total use cases. Notion is already one of the best productivity tools for bloggers, and the addition of Notion AI for writers further cements its place on this list!

2023.05.28 20:02 khoafraelich789 What Is Piston Compression Height, and Why Is It Important?
| https://preview.redd.it/6cz7x4zqjc1b1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=afeb4fc742d25a0fe107bae737b93fc7d1923b77 If youâre a car enthusiast, you know that the intricacies of auto parts can be daunting and regular maintenance is necessary. With the market becoming more streamlined over the years, finding the correct parts for your model is still challenging. For example, one part is piston compression height, and understanding it is essential for ensuring optimal engine performance. What is piston compression height? Piston compression height is the distance between the centerline of the piston pin and the top of the piston crown (or dome). This measurement plays a vital role in determining which type of piston you need for your engine. More specifically, if your pistons are too short or too long compared to what your engine requires, you wonât get optimal performance out of your vehicle. To ensure that all four pistons provide equal combustion pressure throughout each cylinder head, they must all have the same compression height. How to calculate it Calculating piston compression height is relatively straightforward. You can use a simple formula to determine your piston compression height, including your blockâs deck height, the length of your connecting rods, and your crank stroke. MotorTrend provided an example of how to get the most accurate calculations: âAssume you have a block with a 9.00-inch deck height, 6.000-inch connecting rods, and a stroke of 3.75 inches. First, divide the stroke by two and add that to the rod length: 3.75 / 2 = 1.875, and 1.875 + 6.00 = 7.875. Next, subtract that answer from the deck height: 9.00 7.875 = 1.125. So, the answer is that the piston compression height should be 1.125 inches.â If you want the piston to be 0.010 above or below the deck, all you need to do is add or subtract that amount from the compression height. You can also use an online calculator, like this one from United Engine & Machines. Why do people get confused by the term âcompression heightâ? Many people tend to get confused when they hear âcompression height,â as this terminology suggests something related to compression ratio. However, these two concepts have nothing to do with one another. Diamond Racing Pistons even mentions that this term shouldnât be applied to piston terminology at all except for the fact that it relates to the volume of the piston crown surface. While some engines may require higher-than-normal compressions ratios to reach maximum efficiency levels, this does not affect piston compression height nor alter its importance for achieving optimal engine performance. The bottom line Understanding piston compression height and how it affects engine performance is essential to ensure that all four cylinders generate equal combustion pressure throughout each cylinder head. The good news is that calculating this measurement is pretty easy, and various tools can help you. If you need any additional auto maintenance advice, contact your local mechanic for more information. Source: motorbiscuit submitted by khoafraelich789 to CarInformationNews [link] [comments] |

2023.05.28 11:36 Teffycom Last week in codomomental (May 22 - May 28)
| On May 21st there was a livestream with Ama Mauru, where she talked about the progress of the creation of her new group St.404. I have compiled the most interesting news and facts for you: - The lineup of the group is already set.
- Just one day before the livestream, all the important aspects - including the direction of the music, the visual style, etc. - have also been decided.
- Mauru is eager to launch the group as soon as possible. They plan to start shooting the visuals in early June, and the debut is expected to be this summer (but keep in mind that in Mauru's view, "summer" includes September).
- She emphasized that from now on she will present herself in a completely different way, not like in "Seireki". She joked that she might even do harsh vocals, and at the same time, she seriously didn't rule it out.
- Apparently, the new group will be the opposite of "Seireki". However, Mauru says that she has absorbed the identity of "Seireki" through all these years, so there will be some continuity, even though the concept is completely opposite. Namely, St.404 will also be based on a fantasy concept - apparently it will be a dark fantasy.
- On the previous livestream, Mauru said that after meeting with the applicants for the group, she reconsidered some of her ideas about how it should be. In particular, she had wanted to have 5 or 7 members, but as a result, she realized that the formation of the lineup depends first and foremost on the people she meets, as it is they who create the unique look of the group. As a result, she was satisfied with the lineup with a small number of members. But Mauru emphasizes that this is not a compromise, on the contrary - the girl is convinced that this way they will be able to realize the style and music that can only be realized with this lineup.
- Despite her shyness, Mauru has already managed to make good friends with the new members.
- Being directly involved in the work on the group, Mauru has once again realized her own incompetence in many aspects. However, she doesn't want to lose to herself and is eager to fill those gaps and grow as a producer, writer and performer by working on her own shortcomings.
- Mauru wants to create something that can capture people's hearts, and she intends to test herself in different kinds of music to create a world that only she can create.
Meanwhile, Seireki13ya have announced their next single, "Kuchibue", which will be released on June 14. In addition to the title song, the single will also include the song "Pastelphose". Interestingly, both of these songs are strongly associated with the past "Seireki", even though they have never officially been released yet. "Pastelphose", with vocals by Nene Komochi, Ama Mauru and Shiki Towa, was already available as part of a two-hour preview in late July 2021. Around the same time, a vote was held to decide which lyrics would get another new song of the group. And that song was the one that ended up being "Kuchibue". The choice was made of two variants, and at the time of voting the authors of the lyrics were unknown, and the instrumental of the song could be listened freely. In the end of the voting, the lyrics titled "Hi, cute knight" were chosen, the author of which turned out to be Shiki Towa. Then it became known that lyrics titled "Kuchibue" was written by GESSHIRUI. But shortly thereafter, Towa suddenly left the group and Seireki13ya went on an indefinite hiatus. Nevertheless, Komochi wanted to continue performing, and she had small solo performances during codomomental events, where this song (which became "Kuchibue" due to these circumstances) was performed live for the first time. This period when Komochi was left alone was very difficult for her, she even began to think about leaving "Seireki", and so, in her own words at a recent livestream, "Kuchibue" was a very painful song for her, but when it was reborn with the new lineup, it revealed itself to Komochi in a cheerful way for the first time. It's a song that had so many of my feelings in it and that I went through a lot together. And when it sounded with the voices of the four of us, I was glad to the point of tearsđ It's a very important song to me, listen to itđ€ From Nene Komochi's Twitter. The cover art of the single was also revealed: https://preview.redd.it/9mlel1bukj2b1.jpg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6d13725ff23390e280b5db9deeb8aacaff95d9d6 And a few days later, "Kuchibue" became available for a limited two-hour preview where fans could experience what Seireki13ya's new lineup studio recording sounds like for the first time. I've included a translation of the song's lyrics below: "Kuchibue" ("Whistling") "Ouch!" - A prickling pain in the depths of my chest. My bangs fluttered and the wind was slightly bitter. I wonder since when I don't look for a reason why my heart is beating hard. Pretending to be insensitive was already something commonplace. The dance of a fairy who can't dance, hoping for a fairy tale. A moment of star divination. The excitement of the heart. Let's chat all night and forget tomorrow. Let's leave sadness and sorrow behind, let's ride freely on the moon slide. This feeling is special. I don't care if I get hurt. Rainbow jitterbug. Raspberry blend. And you're getting so close. The first and last mysterious night for both of us. Only an imitation echoes, the standard bitter smile. It seems to me that things are actually different. But still, like the others, I want peace. I admire you and, clumsily and proudly, I want to be just like you, I'm still afraid, but, you know, I clutch my amulet tightly and hum a melody, do you hear? What may look like junk isn't perfect. And that's why I want to love myself. Hey, let's chat and forget tomorrow forever. Joy and pain will be gently wrapped by a medicine the color of tears. This feeling is special. I don't care if I get hurt. Flowers are singing. Please, Maestro. And you're getting so close. That mysterious night when I promised myself I'd never be wrong again. "Let us begin, concertmaster." Let's play some stellar music! Let's take this new ship for a ride, a blooming tulip. A concert of the overflowing night, a time of fantastic illusions that play feelings. Happily in private. What do you think? A smile spread over my face. Ha-ha, he-he. Because I've decided. That this is more important to me than anything else. No one can stop us. I love you more than anything else in the world. Let's chat all night and forget about tomorrow. Let's leave sadness and sorrow behind, let's ride freely on the moon slide. This feeling is special. I don't care if I get hurt. Rainbow rumba. Raspberry blend. And you're getting so close. The first and last "Let's be together forever". I still don't understand what music is, but one element we should never forget but tend to do is the concept of 'fun'. I'm late with all this again, but I'm the one responsible for the lyrics of "Kuchibue," the song from Seireki13ya's seventh single. It's coming out a little later, but for me, it's the work where I thought the most about the majority opinion. This song was a never-ending challenge for me as I tried to figure out how to express what could be said about as "Seireki13ya and the music market" by collecting such hackneyed words and images as "junk" and interpreting their arrangement and context. However, when I entered the lyrics contest, that lyrics was rejected... And I was a little sad (the winner lyrics were great), but I'm really glad that they still could start their journey around the world. (Oops, it got too long again... I didn't even get a third of what I wanted to say). If you're not insensitive, you should be able to say 'let's chat' in this painful world. If you're not painfully aware that there are clear moments when you can't say it, there's not a bit of conviction in those words. But these girls have it. "Romantic Escape" was written as an homage to Shonen ga Milc's songs, and at the same time based on the images of Mauru-chan and the other members, and as a result it unwittingly turns out to be much more emotional than I could have imagined. And since "Kuchibue" is a continuation of that work, the "fun" in it came to the fore. I desperately tried not to rely too much on the overflowing emotions and played "Rhapsody in Blues" and "Symphony No. 7 in A Major" in my head. I was very happy that the tiny but great artist Nene Komochi and the new stars Yui Urari, Who Runo and Yowa Minai really tried to convey that to the listeners. There was something about it that went beyond "skillful" and "unskillful". I'll be glad if you look forward to June 14th. May this 13th night, which shouldn't have happened according to the Star Calendar, be a good one. From GESSHIRUI's Twitter. It's a cute song, but not only that, it makes me remember important thingsđ¶ I'll be happy if it becomes something important for you too. I try my best for the present, but when I look back, it all becomes my precious treasuresđâš Let's continue to create irreplaceable treasures with us, together with our 'night minions'!!!đ€đ From Nene Komochi's Twitter. On a recent livestream, the members of Seireki13ya shared what they would wish for if they had the opportunity to grant a wish through magic. Runo would like to be able to magically visit all the places on earth and see all the interesting sights (because even if she could, it would be impossible to do so to the fullest), Komochi would like to have endless stamina so that she could give an endless concert, Urari would like to be able to speak all languages (including animal languages) so that Seireki13ya can communicate with their fans all over the world (and also perform in zoos), and Minai dreams that in her next life she will be reborn as something other than a human - like a cat or a stuffed toy (the other members rightly pointed out that in the second case, Minai would not be able to move, but she replied that she would move anyway, and the other members were horrified to imagine this). Speaking of Minai, her height has definitely become something of a meme. Especially after the incident that happened on a recent Seireki13ya livesteam, the translation of which you can check out here: https://www.reddit.com/AlternativeIdol/comments/13tw1nh/seireki13ya_minai_height_incident_eng_sub/ You can also check out another funny moment that happened last week on a TOKYO TEFUTEFU livestream. The girls decided to play a word association game, but no one thought the game could end with such an epic moment... The video is here: https://www.reddit.com/AlternativeIdol/comments/13tw30w/tokyo_tefutefu_magical_tangerine_incident_eng_sub/ When I heard that ZKS was going on an indefinite hiatus, I thought, "I'm not going to accept this, shitty Imamura!" and sent him this song (TOKYO TEFUTEFU - "houyou") as a kind of taunt: "This is the border between the ZKS and TTFTF worlds!", but he didn't get angry, but said: "Awesome!" which made me angry again, but that's just between you and me. 2023.05.28 04:11 ArchDukeNemesis Every NWA, WCW & WWE world heavyweight championship run from 1904-2023 combined, if every champion held the belt once.
To celebrate the "Return" of the "Big Gold Belt" on Raw, I thought I'd make a history combining all title runs from the first world heavyweight championship, through it's time in the NWA, its two off shoots in WCW and its appropriation by WWE. All lineages combined, all vacancies ignored, all reigns recognized and all champions holding the belt once.

2023.05.28 03:03 kanyeomarisoutheast Minecraftin' as Steve
(Verse 1) Yo, I'm Minecraftin' as Steve, block by block I'm building dreams, Craftin' worlds, it's a virtual scene, the square-headed king, supreme. Diggin' deep, mining for diamonds, gatherin' resources, never stoppin', Survival mode, I'm always poppin', creepers creepin', but I keep hoppin'.
(Oh, here we go, a rap about Minecraftin' as Steve, Where blocks and pixels are all I perceive. I'm diggin' the virtual vibes, breakin' the ground, Building a world where creativity knows no bound.)
(Chorus) Minecraftin' as Steve, the architect of my fantasy, Buildin' castles, reachin' heights, no limits in this reality. With pickaxe in hand, I'm breakin' new ground, Unleashin' creativity, it's a world so profound.
(Verse 2) Yeah, I'm craftin' tools, I'm craftin' dreams, From wooden swords to diamond beams, Explorin' caves, battlin' mobs, Nothin' can stop me, nothin' can rob.
(Oh, in this Minecraftin' journey, I'm feelin' alive, Swingin' my sword, takin' those creepers for a dive. From buildin' farms to redstone creations, Every moment in this game, an exhilaration.)
(Bridge) Blocks stackin' up, my vision expands, The possibilities, they're in my hands, With friends by my side, we'll conquer it all, In this Minecraft world, we stand tall.
(Chorus) Minecraftin' as Steve, the architect of my fantasy, Buildin' castles, reachin' heights, no limits in this reality. With pickaxe in hand, I'm breakin' new ground, Unleashin' creativity, it's a world so profound.
(Outro) So let's dig deep, let's craft and create, In this Minecraft world, there's no debate, Minecraftin' as Steve, we're buildin' our way, To endless adventures, where we'll always stay.
