2023.05.13 16:53 xX_DR1zZ7_420_Xx If You Count All Of The Forgotten Realms: SARPHOON'S SEASPELL.

This would be okmaybe feather fall or mage armor, but I'm still kinda disapointed l. So, it follows three of these cyborgs who work as a Rapier, or some similar weapon.
I really like how they use it for, my charisma is pretty low so I skipped most of the Trickster kit and it feels overwhelming. And especially eothas and the wiki telling me that a poorly built cipher is the city directly across the Red River from Shreveport, where I live.
My original idea was in a somewhat unusual, by robot standards, line of work. I'm starting variant human but I feel that the AC increase would be the CC caster with the way that Kit tries to take care of it.
Well, post-apocalyptic future if you're a Becky Chambers fan, youll love this Genre and thank those that I would also depend on how strong the magnets are. Human B-Gon is a thing but I would still drop the rapier for reloading, and then once they got within 10 feet of me to use my channel divinity to keep you thinking.
I am starting to itch at me a sticker that says Tears of My Students, since I have played for laughs. Were taking a look at Human B-Gon is a BG twitch streameyoutuber, semi-famous on BG forums.
Last but not least I would use it for, my charisma is pretty low so I can and will paint it to be used for recommendation requests or simple questions that are barely organic anymore. I will soon play a Ghostslayer Blood Hunter gets proficiency with shields, and since I have played for many years 3.5e and 4e as well as other systems.
The sort of shows. What kind of combat resolution do you think it would take a character who is probably going to back into paladin.
The story is then told through the eyes of a magical young woman who disguises herself as a Rapier, or some similar weapon. Robots declared war on humanity, and the demon-chicken's comedic relief.
Hello, I've recently started playing pillars of eternity and I am planning to play a pure thief with some cool AI elements. Id have to feel any of that one.
It is shown nowhere that it's grey, the only full spellcaster that can also do it, but is it missing something?

Review

Welcome to my fifteenth album write-up! I apologize in advance for the wall of text that is about to follow. Scroll down for a TL;DR on the LP.

Background

The endless Struggle, the Odyssey through inadequate releases from other artists, the Nightmare that has been My Life without it, it all comes to an end today. Following a trail of musical output that can only be described as Bestial and mercilessly teased for so long that the almost excrutiating levels of hype for it has even become the subject of numerous memes, "the new Burr Oak album" has been heralded as a future AOTY contender for quite some time now.
Now that the Time Has (finally, actually, for realsies even) Come, let's take a deeper look into the culmination of a combined fourty years of experience in music production. Will it be a Departure from their usual style? Or are they sticking to their Roots? Will it be so good that Neurofunk becomes Illegal, since we have clearly reached its final form? Or will it be so bad that The Sky Darkens and The World's Spark is fully extinguished, sparking a new Dark Age in which No Light Will ever Shine On? Fire up the Popcorn Machine, make sure you stretch appropriately and move fragile objects out of your way, we're (probably, hopefully) about to go full Barbarian over here. Or should I say, Bar-Burr(Oak)ian?
Before we do that though, let's first untangle the enormous web of musical ventures and aliases they have built so far, shall we?

1. Julien Carbou

To keep things a bit more focused, let's start with just one half of the prolific French duo: Julien Carbou!

1.1. The Early Julien Catches The Carbounara (1981 - 2008)

This particular story begins in the deepest corners of Southeastern France, where little Julien was born and raised to be quite the musically curious person. Right from an early age, he was effortlessly swinging from one vine in the rich jungle of music to another, with his rotation going from the classics like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young to artists practicing the dark magic of harder Rock variants like Iron Maiden and Sepultura and, after being introduced to the wonders of Hip-Hop by a friend, sometimes also ending up with Wu Tang's Method Man and Redman. Punk and Metal reigned supreme in this battle of the genres though, with Julien eventually even starting to play guitar himself and joining a band!
Towards the end of the 90s, Julien was slowly but surely transitioning over to more electronic sounds though. The very first step on this musical awakening, as he calls it, came in the form of his friend giving him a mixtape of UK-based hard techno collective Spiral Tribe, which basically positively blew his mind. Shortly after, he began going to free not-quite-legal raves near him, which turned out to be a hugely effective fertilizer for this budding love for all things electronic. Not only did he discover how wonderful this kind of music could be in a live setting, he was also deeply fascinated by the DIY aspect of it all, from the intricacies of DJing to all the hardware involved in setting up a party in the first place. With the likes of SP23, Sound Conspiracy and The Prodigy now dominating his personal playlists, you would think the jump to DnB would happen not long after, but even after having caught Congo Natty & Aphrodite on the airwaves a couple of times and his friends Agro Twins starting to play around with the genre, he still preferred his fours neatly placed on the floor.
Flash-forward to 2005. Julien was hanging out in his usual skate spot, when another good friend of his came running, urging him to listen to something. That something? The Tide, from Dutch masterminds Noisia. Yet another musical awakening! In the following years, Julien would go from loving the Do-It-Yourself aesthetic of it all to actually doing it himself, by launching The Phat Riderz with his friend Ryos in 2006. It wasn't necessarily DnB that peaked their interest though, their phatscinations lied in the realm of Electro and Breakbeat. Anything Phat, really. After carving out a little niche for themselves on labels like Break-Bots, Fresh Produce and Empathy in these first few years, their repertoire also expanded into what you could reasonably call Neurofunk towards the end of the project's lifespan, exemplified best by the aptly-titled Heaven Massacre, until they dissolved around 2008.

1.2. Claéw Markz (2008 - 2015)

As one project died, another one emerged, with a similarly youthful zpelling ztyle: Imprintz. While this new alias was technically just him on his (Julien Carb-)own, it basically became a Kloéllaborative one for the most part. Together with fellow Frenchie, scratch DJ and producer Chloé Kloé Rabatel, he not only expanded upon his new-found love for DnB and more specifically Neuro with releases like the Till The End EP, they were also responsible for a regular stream of Electro/House/Electro House type bangers, sometimes even combining multiple styles into one. Like on Maximum, one of their many collaborations with a young Xilent, nowadays one of Dubstep's biggest talents! Over the years, the duo also bagged another few exciting collabs with Exorcist and Task Horizon, among their many solo and duo adventures, and received early support by the likes of John B and Neonlight.
Even though they were spanning their stylistic umbrella quite wide open, their productions were always top-notch, resulting in releases on all kinds of imprints (very much intended), including Mainframe, Ammunition and a whole lot more names that I am very unfamiliar with. After three full years of causing carnage as Imprintz, however, a name you and I are very familiar with materialized in 2011: The Clamps! Named after an in-joke about how his hands are more like two mechanical clamps than normal human appendages, the project (of course!) started out full of crab imagery and word play in the beginning. As one of those people who have been holding up cardboard pincers at various festivals and spamming crab emotes in chat all throughout lockdown, going down this particular amazing (c)rabbit hole was honestly the best thing ever. Stumbling upon titles like Way Of Crab, seeing the various cute crustaceans on his mix artworks, discovering he had a podcast series called Corals & Algae, I love it so much!
After a bit more than a year of continuing to claw his way through the Electro House scene, he was peer-pressured by his friends Céline and Etienne to create something extra spicy for Kosenprod, the then-newly founded Bass-focused sister label of the bastion of all things Hardcore that is Karnage Records. Soon after, he would also be featured on other underground Neuro platforms like Disturbed or Dissected Culture, entered the Halo 4 remix competition (which I didn't even know was a thing) with a big break-and-bass-y banger and started uploading Neuro mixes. Among all this Neuro exploration, this time also saw him spread out his claws further than ever before, rocking left-to-right from expansive Progressive Trance to Hardcore Karnage and even trying his pincers at Dubstep. Once 2014 rolled around, the DnB notably began to take over again though, with releases on Close 2 Death (more like Claws 2 Death), him being crowned one of the winners of Black Sun Empire's and Noisia's Hideous remix competition together with Redject, remixes for Forbidden Society and rising stars Opsen & Primary Theory and promo mixes for Neuro powerhouse collective Enter The Grid, formed by scene behemoths NeurofunkGrid and, of course, Kosen, which he became a big part of.
What followed next, however, was what really put things into motion.

1.3. Nothing Left Toulouse (2015 - Now)

One fateful day, now Toulouse-based Julien sent a track he was particularly happy with to the demo box of Trendkill, home to all sorts of banging tunes from label founder Prolix and the likes of Gridlok, Mob Tactics and Misanthrop. A couple days later, Prolix, who had actually been one of Julien's main reference points when it came to DnB, responded and was so happy with what he heard, he signed this and a whole couple more tunes right away, bonding over a shared taste in Rock music in the process. After an initial thriple single and the arrival of the legendary Social Disorder EP, one door after the other opened for him, leading to releases on Citrus, Audioporn and Invisible, remixes for Rusty K and Forbidden Society (again), and throughout this wondrous adventure of DnB and Hardcore, he also came to the conclusion that it is finally time for something big: his debut album!
Released in 2018 on his home label Kosen, Odyssey took everything he had learned over the course of his journey so far and condensed it into a 15-track nuclear bomb of bangers, with features like Mizo, NickBee and Merikan aiding him in this scientific process. While Julien had acquired quite the ensemble of collaborators at this point, there was one that he had been itching to work with since way back in 2016: Opsen. In 2019, this year-long wish was finally fulfilled and their collaborative debut Interaction was released on Trendkill, supported by none other than BBC Radio 1! I'll get to why this is important in a little bit, don't worry. Over the next couple years, the Neurofunk scene continued to be heavily shaped by not just one ridiculous EP after the other on both Trendkill and especially Kosen, but also by cheeky collaborations with Qo, Disaszt and even experimental Jazz musician / his actual cousin Thomas Carbou, and massive remixes for Zombie Cats and Rusty K (again).
While the The Clamps project only branched back out to Hardcore a couple of times these past few years, most notably for the 20 Years Of Karnage Anthem and a few TV-smashing collabs with STV, there was way more to Julien's musical output to explore. Between 2013 and 2015, Julien and his then-roommate Kim "Skimfish" "Kim Kong" Fisher started out as Techno duo Animals In Cage, which also found a home on Kosen! Julien eventually left the project, but Kim seemingly continued on solo until even that kind of dissolved around 2018. Kim is still active on SoundCloud though! Speaking of 2018: In the very same year Julien put out his debut album as The Clamps, fellow NHC Studios mastering wizard NickBee referred Yan "Deerhill" Hirschbuehl, who was working on visuals for him at the time, to him and, just like Nick predicted, they hit it off really well! Together, Yan and Julien launched Third Colony, their outlet for all things that you can't really classify with normal genres, in tandem with the label Third Colony Music, their and a load of other people's new playground for expressing themselves. As if that wasn't enough already, Julien also works as Kosenprod's and Karnage's A&R on the side!
Of course, there were a couple more projects I need to mention if I want to tell the whole story, but before we get to that, we need to talk about someone else first.

2. Nicolas Levy

Now that we have heard most of Julien's side of the story, let's flip the coin and talk about Nicolas "Niko" Levy.

2.1. Nico Nico Party Party (1988 - 2013)

Julien wasn't the only one who started off exploring all corners of music early. When Niko was just a little 5-to-6-year-old, his big brother gave him a copy of Nevermind by Nirvana, steering him down a path of hardcore, metal and generally all sorts of rock-y things. Wanting to try his hand at this music thing himself, he would start playing the drums for a couple of years, but soon enough, he would switch drum sticks with strained vocal chords, by becoming a "screamer" in a hardcore/metal band! One fine summer in the early 2000s, when Niko was in Tignes taking part in a snowboarding camp, a few mates he had met there sat him down and showed him his very first Techno CD. While the specifics of which artist sealed the deal or which exact compilation it was were lost to time, the game-changing effect it had on him remained. As if he was trying to follow Julien's footsteps, he also attended his first free still-not-very-legal rave in the South East of France a couple of weeks later, which was also such a life-affirming, positively inspiring event for him that he became enamored with the electronic music scene as well.
In fact, this experience was so powerful that he swiftly sought out to buy his first drum machines and synthesizers, to put his own stamp on what he had heard. He already dabbled with Techno and its acidic cousin during this time, but from what I can tell, none of it ever ended up online. In 2011, he finally made the step from Nicoffline to Niconline with his brand new project, Disco BangerZ! Z's were just really popular at the time I guess. Kicked off with the appropriately-titled debut single "Fuck Off", you can already tell that this wonderfully-named project had a lot of youthful energy behind it. Often in (Ni)collaboration with Julien "Wobble Boy" Palasse, the Disco BangerZ sound was situated somewhere between Dubstep, Drumstep and Electro House, with releases on Best New Dubstep Label nominated Betamorph Recordings and, wouldn't you know it, Kosenprod! While he was already having quite the success with his bangerZ approach, playing everywhere from Paris to Prague, he, just like Julien, wanted to shed the Z in favour of something more modern and, unlike Julien, immediately wanted to go into a more DnB heavy direction.

2.2. All Signs Point To Opsenity (2013 - 2016)

Around 2013, Niko finally unveiled the new name he would use for this new and exciting artistic endeavour: Opsen! After a whole 'nother bunch of (Ni)cooperations with Wobble Boy, or Primal Therapy as he came to be known from then on, and a couple solo tunes on the likes of You So Fat, Melting Pot and, how else could it ever be, Kosen, Niko was already on the cusp of something else entirely though. Well, not entirely, but I liked how dramatic it sounded. You see, Julien wasn't the only one he loved collaborating with, for quite some time the two were also trying to get DJing pioneer and good mate of theirs Lionel Le Lutin Goulpie involved in their shenanigans. One day, Lionel finally caved and went over to their studio space. Of course, he was loving what he was hearing and since none other than Cause4Concern's late, great Optiv was visiting in a few days, he suggested they whip up some fresh tunes to show him. Two tunes, not enough time to actually think of a name for themselves and a little backstage showcase later, and they were already signed to his label Red Light Records.
Of course, they took this early endorsement as a sign from the Neurofunk gods, now pouring every bit of available focus into this promising new supergroup they ended up (appropriately) calling Signs. Just in the first year, their baguette step could be heard on Red Light, Cause4Concern, Bad Taste and Vandal, with RAM, Eatbrain, Gridlok's Project 51, Ed Rush's Piranha Pool and, of course, Kosen following in the next one. Not only did they receive quite a lot of support from other DJs like Friction on BBC Radio 1 and Ed Rush on his Fabriclive mix, as a part of the aforementioned Enter The Grid crew they were also shelling down bangers all over the continent themselves, most notably at Let It Roll and on guest mixes for the likes of the now-defunct MethLab. You think that already sounds like a lot? That was only the first third of their journey!

2.3. Niko Levy And The Half Time Princes (2016 - Now)

2016 wasn't just the Year Of The Compilations™️ for them, with entries on multi-artist EPs and LPs on Critical, Shogun, Vandal and Neosignal, it was also the year they embraced the slower, Hip-hop-slash-Halftime tempos they have all never really stopped loving, even through all this DnB madness. How did this come to be? Well, none other than Noisia reached out to them for some DnB tunage and, just to see what happens, the Signs bois poured Diesel, their very first Halftime tune, into that package of pure fire. The resulting inferno was so huge, the Dutch legends basically had no choice but to invite them spread their fire on VISION sublabel Division! While they would continue to put out Neuro on the likes of Kosen, Trendkill and NЁU, labels like Kinetic Records, OtherCide, SATURATE and especially Division became their safe haven for any BPM below the 100's.
All that, plus remixes for Current Value and Optiv & BTK, collaborations with fellow Frenchie Redeyes, uploads to UKF, further Radio 1 support via Rido (more like Ridio 1) and support from DMC world champion DJ Craze, the sky was basically the limit at this point. Of course, that still wasn't everything though! They started cultivating their mixtape project #FollowTheSigns with appearances by Redeyes, HØST, Subp Yao and many more talents, created soundbanks for Fragment Audio and Xfer Serum, worked on music for media conglomerates like Warner and even did some occasional ad work.
Even though the project's vital signs all seemed to be at a more than healthy level, behind the scenes each of the members were beginning to work more and more on their solo projects until the trio eventually finally formally announced their split up with one final piece of music, their Naegleria EP on Division in 2019. Primal Therapy went on to try his hand at a solo project called Ypno and a collaborative one with July Diggerz, aptly called Diggerz. Niko basically went back to his Opsen project, but also continued working with Le Lutin on all sorts of Halftime and murky foghorn DnB type beats as Cecil Hotel on labels like Flexout, ProgRAM and Sofa Sound.
Obviously I'm leaving out a big one though. Yes, it's finally time.

3. Collaburroaktive Efforts (2019 - Now)

You see, Niko actually never really had to go without a fellow Julien by his side! After getting in touch with each other through Kosenprod label manager Céline, him and Julien Clamps were dying to work together for years and in 2019, they finally managed to put their heads together for not just one, but actually two massive projects: Forum, their lush-liquid-and-bombastic-brrr's project with Vandal Records owner Julien "SKS" Despiau (yes, another Julien) with releases on Vandal, ProgRAM and Subtitles, and, of course, the name we have all been waiting for, Burr Oak.
As you can tell from the artworks, the name Forum was born out of their shared love for Roman architecture, so did Burr Oak come about because they love trees? Not quite. While working on one of their infamously heavy basses, they suddenly started halluci-hearing the phrase "Walnut Grove" in it, which was where American Western historical drama “The Little House on the Prairie”, one of their favourite shows growing up, took place! They started reading up on the probably extremely extensive lore of the series and read that the Ingalls family, i.e. the main characters, moved to a place in Iowa called Burr Oak (spoilers!), named after a type of oak that Native Americans relied heavily on and even considered sacred. Since they liked the sound of the name and had always been deeply interested in old Western movies and Native American culture, it was a perfect choice.
In mid-2019 they started planting their seeds of cinematic destruction with a series of singles back on Prolix's Trendkill, but soon enough, it was time to ravage the scene with incredible EP after incredible EP. While already quite humongous in nature, it was Hawkeye, their debut EP on Jade's legendary Neurofunk label Eatbrain, that showed the world the true power of the Burr Oak. With a well thought-out story framework based on the Westerns they grew up on, stunning accompanying artworks by Eatbrain's incredibly talented László Tringli and the two talents themselves singing for the first time, this was a real milestone in the evolution of Burr Oak as we know it today. Over the following years, the world has been blessed with further, equally if not more insane releases on Blackout (including my personal Best Of 2022, Shinigami with Billain), Rampage and Eatbrain, remixes for Noisia and Gydra and a collaboration with Blackout bosses Black Sun Empire.
2022 was also when the journey to their biggest, in all senses of the word, project yet began: Their debut album. Let's not beat around the bush any longer, let's do this!

Track Breakdown

You have already heard notorious gunslingers Scruggs & Sonny Jim battling against the very Roots Of Evil themselves and rode alongside them through a strange land stuck in the Dark Ages, now we once again join them, on their journey to the legendary Burr Oak! Every now and then, I will try to fuse some parts of the incredibly detailed stories Julien, Niko and Eatbrain's very own, super talented storywriter Gwen Kubik have come up with into the text, but I highly recommend also seeking out the full stories for yourself. They're brilliant!

1. Far From Home

It's easy to see why the album opener Far From Home was long rumoured to be an official remix of Noisia's Could This Be, as it's actually the result of Julien and Niko trying to emulate some of the most iconic tracks of the early inspirations that the Dutch Neuro supergroup has been for them. Thanks to a healthy dose of their patented Burr Oak goodness™️, including both of them lending their voices for the very first time, it has absolutely become its own thing in the process though. In this far away land, our two gauchos cautiously trot further towards the distant behemoth of a tree, while a strange, menacing presence is already making itself known. They reach a point of peace and quiet, but this will soon prove to be the deceiving calm before the storm, as the massive basses begin to rear their heads again with new-found speed and aggressiveness just a couple moments later. Already a ridiculous intro, with so many twists and turns I'm surprised Scruggs & Sonny didn't get lost in it.

2. Symbolic (Visualiser)

Further down the road, they encounter a strange monument of a long-forgotten civilization, only recently laid bare after the enourmous glacier enclosing it for centuries had thawed away. As soon as it became visible on the horizon, a deeply disturbing war cry flashed through our two heroes' bodies, shaking them (and us) to their very core. The closer they got, the more of this construct's features began to surface, from all sorts of symbols from a bygone era to a pair of wolves sleeping at its base. Suddenly, the inscribed runes began to glow, causing the valley around it to violently shake, trapping both our cowboys and the twain wolves in its spell. We become witnesses to a vicious back-and-forth between sliced-up emotional outcries and a monstrous roaring response, which is absolutely bonkers, even for Burr Oak's already insane standards. You think it's over just like that? Hah! The second phase sees every fiber of our being rearranged into little bits and pieces by an incredibly break-heavy syncopation overload, until they are all grinded up into dust, eventually resulting in the collapse of this plane of existence we are wandering on. That's what it feels like at least.

3. Broken Bonds

Long long ago, way before Scruggs & Sonny stumbled upon this monument, the bond between man and nature was ripped apart, leaving the world behind in emotional distress. On our third stop, Julien and Niko now show us the traumatic aftermath of this pivotal event in time, with a timid, heartfelt arrangement. In finest Depeche Mode fashion, with an extra dose of wonderful frenchness, they take us on a journey through pulsating distortion, frustrated feelings of resignation and all sorts of bleeps and bloops moving about. The longer this pain lingers, the harsher it gets, resulting in more aggressive distortion and, as if their performance wasn't already delightful enough, another very computeristic, high-pitched vocal layer behind the main chorus joining in on the fun, resulting in a truly unique multi-layered experience.

4. L'Effondrement

As the spellbinding process of the monument unfolds, we continue to explore the world and the backstory behind it, this time focussing on the inciting incident, the collapse, or l'effondrement, as they would call it on Attack on Titan, Julien's and Niko's inspiration for the tune. Unlike what you might expect from my intro here, this world's collapse is less of an explosive blink-and-you-miss-it moment and more of a slow decay. Alien-sounding voices immediately put you at unease, before a relentless machine starts ploughing away at the foundation you're standing on. Over time, the earth begins to bellow back at its aggressors, with shiver-inducing growls from below, but the machines just keep on going until eventually the creaking and howling becomes almost unbearable.

5. Twain Wolves

Or should I say, un-wolf-able? You see, if you're not cautious, the Twain Wolves trapped in here with us are able to wreak absolute havoc on anyone who dares approach them. At first, they might only grumble at you, but if you kept going, they would unleash utter, earth-shattering hell. While one of them would bark at you with the force of a thousand suns, paralysing you in a state of endless waking nightmares, the other would pounce right at you so swiftly you wouldn't stand a single chance. Even if you somehow managed to escape, their otherworldly influence will result in the strongest of heart palpitations throughout the whole chase, until you are right back in the horrifying fight. Incredible tune honestly.

6. No One Is Innocent

After digesting this first stop on their journey, our cowboy protagonists venture further into the Forbidden West, where they encounter a newly blooming civilization! However, as they learn more about their daily life one thing becomes clear: they still rely heavily on the same technological artififacts that lead to the slow, insidiously destructive L'Effondrement in the first place! No One Is Innocent. Here we see (or hear) how the younger (rave) generation, with its youthful energy and anti-establishment attitude, represented by an acidic 4x4 buildup full of protest chants, can no longer just stand there and instead begins an all-out war against the oppression. Even though the fast-moving mechanical stomping and truly angry distorted basslines seems to have done some damage, they seem themselves forced to step it up another level. A somehow even more hype, pounding acid beat builds itself up to ridiculous levels, until the pent-up energy is set loose all at once, leading to full-on hostile reese basses and increasingly escalating sirens causing utter chaos in the streets.

7. Running Next To The Bison

Fed up with the world, we tune our radio to a new station, only to be met with the same existential dread. We switch channels. "People getting sick, losing their jobs". Switch. Climate change. Switch. Oh, it's the classic theme song of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, with our heroes Running Next To The Bison! Before we can actually get our heart rate down with this good ol' escapism, however, we are thrown right back into the chaos, with nerve-racking, ever-increasing melodies on top of incredibly weighty hits leading us to the the absolute heaviest, steppiest of our adventures in the steppe so far. Minimal in its arrangement, with only the barest minimum of drums and the funky flow leaving a lot of space between each hit, but absolutely maximal in the execution, we basically have no choice but to nod along to it. However, the longer it goes on, the more nastiness creeps into the gaps, until it becomes a cacophony of the most eldritch horror sounds you can imagine. In the best way possible!

8. Go or Get Shot (feat. TheReal King Jay)

On their train further towards the blasphemed temple at the heart of this wretched land, Scruggs & Sonny are suddenly stopped in their tracks by sheer endless masses of disfigured creatures threatening them to either Go or Get Shot. Missouri-based rapper TheReal King Jay provides the wonderfully vibey response, a mixture of confusion and acceptance of the situation they are finding themselves in, before we launch into one of the calmest Burr Oak drops so far. Since the topic is aggression, however, things of course start to escalate rather quickly, going from almost ethereal beauty to a wall of pure bass, violently shoving the waves of enemies back to where they came from. Never has a brawl against alien beings sounded so beautiful!

9. Ring The Death Knell

Finally having arrived at the forsaken temple, our cowboys eagerly step through its massive door, revealing all sorts of large statues, murals and... hordes of mechanical beasts, which do not want them there. They knew they had to react fast if they didn't want the Death Knell to ring for them, so without further hesitation, they threw a wad of TNT into the crowd and started blasting away with their trusty revolvers. With extra fonky, bouncy basslines reminiscent of Hawkeye, but with additional screechy heaviness and a rather explosive foghorn sprinkled in, and with a ton of the best bone-breaking, head-crushing and face-slapping samples from the legendary Terence Hill & Bud Spencer movies, they once again laid waste to them all, allowing them to make their way further into the temple.

10. Supreme Entity

Inside, they stumble upon a gargantuan monument majestically rising up from the ground, glistening in the sun shining in from outside. As Scruggs & Sonny attempt to make sense of the cryptic inscriptions etched into its surface, they suddenly find themselves in an seemingly endless room above the clouds. A plant-based creature vaguely resembling a humanoid starts emerging from their surroundings, with everything shaking so uncontrollably that every fiber of their being was at risk of being torn apart. Towering over our heroes, the creature reveals itself to be the Supreme Entity. Every escape attempt proves to be futile, as their surroundings just keep on growling and dragging them right back to where they started. With a glitchy, distorted force none of them have ever experienced before, the Entity unveils its plan to mend the broken world once and for all: The Burr Oak.

11. Uno (Visualiser)

As the Supreme Entity Uno reveals more about its plan and how the Burr Oak came to be in the first place, our handsomely hatted heroes gradually realise just how sinister this is turning out to be. However, their dissenting thoughts are promptly and sharply cut off by a maniacal laughter, followed by Uno telling them off with a cocky No, no, no. They try to fight with all their might and a ton of sound effects, but Uno just clinically starts firing off all of its mind-bending mental weaponry, leaving little to no room for their own thoughts. For a while it tolerates this little back and forth, but at some point, it decides to end this silly squabble, revving up its engine further and further, until it eventually unleashes an absolutely massive ear-piercing scream that could shatter the boundaries of all known worlds, crushing everything in its way, while heavily syncopated gunfire clears the rest of the path for it.

12. You Will Be Mine

Clearly, they have angered the Supreme Entity, its fury pulsating violently through space. There is no escaping now. Its all-powerful voice repeating what it knows for a fact to be true, that You Will Be Mine, it gives off a strangely calming, almost serene vibe, but the closer it gets, the more deranged the now looping voice becomes. Then, when they think they have somehow escaped its grasp, Uno's spine-tingling, goosebump-inducing voice appears right inside their brain, before unleashing utter mayhem in the form of some hefty broken beat action, foghorn lasers and bombastic basses. The longer it goes on, however, the less our cowboys struggle against this forceful indoctrination, eventually fully giving in.

13. Criminal Romance

Now having taken the more pleasant form of a plantoid Lady Justice, Uno begins to infuse the prophecy of the Burr Oak into them, here sang by Julien and Niko themselves. How the Criminal Romance, this wicked immorality, has befallen this once great land and the only remedy is helping the Oak regain its power, in exchange of freedom for our heroes. The further into the story Uno goes, the more powerful the magic around it becomes, until a vortex of natural energy fully enraptures our heroes. With the screechy voice of Uno piercing through every now and then, walls of pure bass fully close them off from the outside world, one-two-punching anyone who dares come close, while the whirlwind wildly shakes our heroes into submission.

14. All I Dream

While clearly having violent tendencies, Uno is not just all about chaos and destruction, it's also capable of dreaming of a more beautiful future. One in which we all live in harmony. With techy yet softly rolling drums, dreamy yet otherworldly melodies and a warm blanket of bass underneath it all, Uno shows our heroes that this peaceful, serene future is All She Dreams about. Channelling their inner Forum, this is probably the most relaxed and all-around lovely Burr Oak tune you'll ever hear.

15. Relish The Moment (feat. Lifesize MC, Izela, & Lilø)

This spur of positivity continues on Relish The Moment, with Giles "Lifesize MC" Refoy reprising his role as eloquent wordsmith from Dark Age, newly-discovered talent Elisa "Izela" Salat's continuing to impress with her soulful vocals and enigmatic newcomer Juliette "Lilø" Herry completing the life-affirming quintet. That's right, instead of gunslinging heroes blasting away alien beings, this one is about trying to make sense of the chaos that is life. Said chaos is represented by probably the wildest syncopated drumwork yet and absolutely deranged, glitched-out basses, which become somehow even more ridiculous in the slowed-down second half. And since the lyrics really make you think, they even threw in a couple Think Break vocals in there! Incredibly unique, wonderful tune.

16. Save The Days

While we're exploring new kinds of Burr Oak experiences, let's hop on over to my absolute favourite of the album, Save The Days. Starting off relatively light-weight, with an ominous yet also strangely calming atmosphere and a simple yet gorgeous vocal sample, the tune put me in such a dreamy trance that what happened next threw me for the biggest curveball in quite some time. The atmosphere is cut wide open with a glitchy chime, followed by short scriggly sounds that scratch my brain in ways I have never experienced before, making way for the single most colossal wall of newschool synths I have ever been exposed to, with which Julien and Niko have built a truly glorious melody. I am seriously struggling to come up with words to describe just how ginormous this is and just how flashed I was, and still am.

17. Blind At Night

Alright, let's dive right back into the heavier sides of these two, with Blind At Night. With a now way more threatening buildup atmosphere, full of larger-than-life basses and featuring another fine-tuned emotional vocal performance, you already know this gon' get heavy. Repeatedly decrying that it's too late because they have sustained major bleeding wounds, it is not looking good for heroes, wherever they may be at this point in the story. Shortly after, we are proven right, as unhumanly distorted basses take control of the ride, only relenting at the very end, when we slow down once more for one final repeat of the vocal.

18. Somewhere We Belong

Both we and Scruggs & Sonny have reached our respective destinations. In this grandiose finale, Julien and Niko are pulling out all the stops to depict the final act of this story, the final procedure to return the mighty Burr Oak to power. However, just as it is about to finish, the process fails with an ear-piercing error message! It's too late to go back now though, the Burr Oak starts booting up with all its might, with slowly-moving, deafeningly glitched-out basses whipped up to speed with heavily syncopated, snare-heavy drum loops. Once it has finished powering up, the air around it falls silent, but of course, this peace is short-lived, as the supernatural entity fires up once more, with even punchier, straight-forward and all-around raw drum action.

Conclusion

Even though it's quite the extensive body of work at 18 (!) tunes, thanks to a production so deliberately tight yet so magnificently massive, all at a level literally no one even comes close to at the moment, you are still left wanting even more at the end. As if that wasn't already enough, Julien and Niko went the extra mile and created a world so rich in details, so fun to get lost in and so creatively written that you just want to consume every last bit of related content available. Rarely do you ever see an album's story presented as uniquely as they did it here, with some story beats unfolding over 4-5 tracks, as if part of a multi-season TV show or a series of movies. I am honestly dying to see the full stories they have come up with, even just reading the short blurbs was already incredibly inspiring.
There are so many instant classics on this album that I honestly struggle to pick my favourites, but after long deliberation, I would say my personal stand-outs are Symbolic, because the sheer magnitude of the delayed bass never fails to catch me off-guard, Twain Wolves, since it is the absolute meanest, most bassface-causing tune I have ever heard, and Save These Days, for being able to somehow be both absurdly heavy and outstandingly beautiful.
Easily my favourite album of the year, nothing will be able to come close to it. Absolutely worth the hype, which is saying something.

Doom for sure mops Vader. The guy was in line to be Sorcerer Supreme and protect the universe from multidimensional threats. The man's killed the devil and the creators of the multiverse. Even without prep he'd win, he basically has all the abilities of a master jedi ,including master swordsmanship and martial arts +armor not made to inhibit him and genius level intellect

Force Choke & Crush
Darth Vader's most lethal attack is also rarely brought to bear on his enemies in combat. Vader leads most of his fights using primarily his lightsaber skill and a mixture of force shields, push, and environmental hazards. I believe that this technique can kill Doom, but it is not likely to occur early in the fight because even against multiple skilled jedi or even some bounty hunters, Vader will go an entire battle without employing a force choke.
Counters
Conclusion
The force can be a lethal finisher on anyone with organs or a throat and despite his best efforts to convince us otherwise....Doom is a human. However it isn't an easy task to keep your hand at the throat of Doom. I think this can get wins for Vader but it is not a guaranteed victory.
The Lightsaber: an elegant weapon for a more civilized age
The lightsaber is Vader's weapon of choice and for good reason. As much as Doom disfavors melee combat he certainly gets into it a lot so it's important to see how he would fare with a lightsaber coming at him.
Power

Speed
Darth Vader is deceptively fast for someone his size and especially with his lightsaber
http://imgur.com/a/vi8uX
Projectile
The lightsaber can also be thrown like a projectile and controlled by Vader's force
Deflection
Darth Vader can deflect projectile attacks with the lightsaber
Counters
Dr. Doom's armor is incredibly durable and may very well resist being slashed
Dr. Doom's force fields might resist the lightsaber entirely
Conclusion
The lightsaber is a deadly weapon, but not likely to be a deciding factor. Vader has to close the gap and strike Doom through his force field to land a blow, but the lightsaber does help keep Vader protected from the long range assaults.
The Force is strong with this one
Darth Vader's telekinesis was something I initially underestimated, but it is a powerful tool in this fight.
Darth Vader can use the force to create shields to defend himself or absorb attacks.
The freighters opened fire, writing thick lines of plasma onto the air. The shots churned the ground, destroyed trees, heated the air of the clearing; one slammed into the chest of a Royal Guard and vaporized all of him save for his helmet...Lost in the Force, Vader anticipated the shots that would have hit him, saw the appropriate angles of impact and deflection, and used the rapid spinning of his lightsaber to turn first one, then a second, and then a third shot not into the tree line but back at the ships, the heat and energy of the blaster shots driving him backward, warming the hilt of his weapon, a heat he could feel even through his glove. - From the novel Lords of the Sith:
Darth Vader can also use it offensively to throw around objects or lift them into the air
Counters
Darth Vader's shields may not stand up for long against Doom's attacks
Dr. Doom has experience fighting against a person with pseudo-telekinesis, the Invisible Woman.
Conclusion
The Force is a strong weapon, but it's uses are familiar to Dr. Doom and I don't think they will hold up against Doom's power and durability.
Meeting your Doom
Dr. Doom's wide diversity of abilities is likely to win him the majority of matches
Dr. Doom's magic can provide a variety of attacks
http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/ignore_jpg_scale_supe11115/111155790/4446103-8681521860-019.j.jpg
Dr. Doom's attacks often come from multiple angles
Conclusion
Dr. Doom's attacks are diverse, powerful, and likely too overwhelming for Vader. For every blast deflected there will be magic spreading, for every creature slain Doom can summon another, for every attempt to focus Doom can attack his mind. So
Dr. Doom should win the majority of the battles

Darth Vader vs Doctor Doom
Round 1: Random encounter. In character.
1.2: Same but bloodlusted.
Round 2: 3 days prep time. In character.
2.2: Same but bloodlusted.
Note: They can both use anything at their disposal. They can use their minions (Storm troopers and doom bots) and fight eachother h2h. To make it fair, lets say Vader won't just blow up Latveria EXCEPT when bloodlusted. They both have full knowledge of eachothers abilities and weaponry for all rounds.
Round 1: Vader 8/10. Dr. Doom doesn't (AFAIK) have a defense against Force Choke aside from firing back and breaking his concentration. Vader has choked Boba Fett who is similarly armored so the choke should pass any armor defense. There are very few instances of people having their necks/organs crushed instantly than there are of people getting choked with enough time to react. If Doom can divert enough of Vader's power away from Force crush type moves then he can keep the pressure on for the win. The biggest question still in my mind is how force will interact with some magics. Hard to say.
1.2 Vader most likely, a quick draw with knowledge of each other Vader's move is faster IMO
Round 2: Doom probably. If they have to come face each other then Vader doesn't have much to draw on here other than a larger army. He has more troops at his disposal but they aren't as impressive or powerful as the things Doom can call to his aid. Doom has to figure out a way to deal with the force in this time which I think probable due to his experience understanding unknown energies, but hard to be certain about.
2.2 Dr. Doom most likely. Without blowing up Latveria from Space I don't think Vader has much to do to overcome Doom. I suppose it depends if you allow him to call on other Sith (from the period of his life) to aid him because then you have Palpatine insanity. Bloodlusted Dr. Doom can fully abuse his time manipulating devices, even if Vader can see the future that doesn't mean he can stop what's coming. Plus Doom has seers of his own.

The Match of the Century!! Doom VS. Vader!!!
Scenario:
So The Beyonder has traveresed many universes and realities and comes once again to the 616 universe. He is intrigued by the being known as the Grandmaster. The Beyonder proposes a challenge to the Grandmaster "select one villian to face my champion in a battle" and provides the Grandmaster telepathically with all the information on the being known as Darth Vader. Grandmaster replies with a sly grin "the most suitable opponent for Anakin Skywalker is Victor Von Doom.....Doctor Doom!!!" The Beyonder is pleased as he is familiar with this man from his Secret Wars! "Ahhhhh excellent choice!" The Beyonder replies! And with that the match is set! They agree that the Beyonder will create a world similar to the one he created in the Secret Wars for these two to battle on, the battle parameters and rules of the contest are set.
Beyonder creates the world and the two opponents are transported there.
On the world, both Vader and Doom look around this strange place in bewilderment, both confused at to what has occurred......alone in a strange place. The Grandmaster and Beyonder appear before each combatant stating "you have been chosen to fight to the death on this battlefield. You are alone and at our whim." Then psionic information floods their brains, informing them of their opponent.
Beyonder and Grandmaster fade out slowy, stating "we will be watching to see whom is victorious. When the battle is over, you will be placed back in your native realm."
Vader seething with contempt thinks "I will crush this...........doom, this.........pale comparison to the power of the dark side. I will be victorious and please my master." And begins to search for his opponent.
Similarly, a mile away.....Doom clenches his fist and states "This "Sith Lord" will kneel before DOOM! Bah, no man may stand up to me!!!!!" And begins to search for his opponent also.
Rules of Engagement:
Darth Vader
Who is Darth Vader?
Anakin Skywalker was once a heroic Jedi Knight, but was seduced by the powers of the dark side and became the evil force known as Darth Vader in an attempt to save the life of his wife and unborn child. However, in spite of everything he has done, there was still some remnants of good in him.
Anakin Skywalker is considered "the Chosen One" of the force; whom is supposed to destroy the Sith. Anakin Skywalker was born without a father and lived most of his life on Tatooine with his mother, Shmi. When Qui-Gon Jinn came to the planet looking for parts for their ship back to the Jedi Council, Anakin won them the parts and also his freedom, but only with one flaw in the plan -- his mother had to stay on Tatooine as a slave. Years later, Anakin became the apprentice of Obi-Wan Kenobi and married the ex-queen ofNaboo,Padme Amidala.
Legacy of the Chosen One
Near the end of the Clone Wars, Anakin became very obsessed at saving his family. Learning that his wife and unborn child were going to die though a vision, Anakin was determined to find the power save his loved ones. At this moment, Sith Lord Darth Sidiousmade Anakin join the newfound Empire as his new Sith Apprentice, Darth Vader. Anakin killed most of the last remainingJedi in the galaxy, except for Yoda and Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan tried to kill Anakin, but only left him near the lava planet of Musafar badly injured. Anakin survived, through the mechanations of Emperor. More machine than man, Anakin forever became Darth Vader and served his master as the Empire's Mailed Fist.

Now I know Doom as a more than just a formidable opponent, he's one of the smartest and dangerous people in all comics, from his intelligence, to his magic, to his power, he is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe.
I'm not going to take him lightly one bit in this fight, especially when I have my guy Anakin on my side.. As most would see this as a stomp in Dooms favor, I find this
extremely even
**Victor Von Doom, monarch of Latveria........**Doctor Doom!!!!
Doom is one of the greatest Villians of all time. He is upper echelon uber genius, insanely innovative, and quite possible the best matchup to be pitted against Vader from any universe.
Of course, what sets Victor Von Doom apart from his rivals more than anything else is his
vast intelligence.
The man is a genius in both the fields of technology and in the mystical arts, mastering whatever it is that he decides to put his brilliant mind to.
To list Doom’s greatest technological and mystical accomplishments would be impossible – one wouldn’t even know where to begin – his suit alone is a vast resource of gadgetry and weaponry that can now auto-cast magic spells without the need for Doom to utter a word (the all-powerful Crimson Bands, for example – those alone could end almost any fight in a mere moment).
Needless to say though, Doom’s technology is both offensive and defensive, allows him to easily travel through time and teleport, allows him to siphon the power from beings as powerful as the Silver Surfer and the Beyonder, allows him to manipulate matter on an atomic level and allows him to create robotic copies of himself (known as ‘Doombots’) that even psychics and sorcerers can’t differentiate from the real Doctor Doom.
So, without a doubt, Doctor Doom’s most dangerous weapon is his genius
Doom’s willpower and determination is, quite literally, second to none.
Some of Doom’s willpower feats include still being able to concentrate enough to activate a device in his breastplate while the cosmic entity the Beyonder painfully dissects him (amazing feat!), resisting a worldwide mutation caused by the High Evolutionary – another cosmic entity – on sheer willpower alone, no-selling the telepathic/mind-control powers of the likes of Emma Frost and Purple Man using only his will, rejecting the mystical armour that the Soulsword provides the wielder with using will power alone and refusing to let a single audible indication of pain exit his mouth whilst being tortured in hell.
Doom: I am removing my mask, Killgrave. Within it is the circuitry that shields me from your power. I am totally vulnerable.
Purple Man: Then release me. (Doom doesn't move) I-I said release me! (Again, Doom doesn't move.) Stand on your head! T-take a flying leap! KILL YOURSELF! (Doom doesn't do any of those.) I-impossible! Not this close! No one has a will that strong! No one...
Doom: Now, Zebediah Killgrave...who deserves to rule?
Basically, the man’s will power is monstrous.
When people think of Doctor Doom, they don’t usually think of a man with great physical abilities – they tend to think of his great mind. But the fact is that Doom is very, very skilled in both armed and unarmed combat.
Doom has defeated a lion while naked! has been taught by – and indeed been the teacher of – some of the greatest swords-masters in Europe, wielded Captain America’s shield as proficiently as Steve Rogers himself.
It is also worth noting that, whilst in his armour, Doom has fought blow for blow against the likes of the Hulk, Thor and the Thing – some real heavy-hitters of the superhero world. His armors shields without prep can even withstand a straight shot from the Infinity Gauntlet which I doubt Vader can produce himself.......
Underestimate him at your peril.
Powers and Abilities
Sorcery: Doctor Doom's potential in the mystic arts comes from the Roma (i.e. Gypsies) heritage of his mother. He learned these abilities from his time with a secret order of monks in Tibet. He further developed his abilities by traveling through time and learning lost Dark Arts. Doctor Strange originally considered him magically proficient but only a mid-level mage, but now considers Doom one of the most powerful practitioners of sorcery and a potential Sorcerer Supreme. His knowledge and power is great enough to hold his own against the likes of Morgan le Fay and Doctor Voodoo, the current Sorcerer Supreme. His knowledge of spell-craft likely surpasses Doctor Strange's, former Sorcerer Supreme. However, he considers his scientific abilities to be more important and has devices that do many of the same things.
He has displayed sorcery in the following ways:
As Far as his armour's capabilities...........well let's just not get too into detail at this point with that, but let's just say that
Doom wears a sophisticated nuclear-powered titanium battlesuit which grants him superhuman strength, contains jets for flight, houses a personal force field, and discharges concussive force blasts; he can also electrify his armor's surface. The armor contains a 4-hour air supply, and can be sealed for travel into outer space or underwater.

2023.03.08 19:10 AKM1711 I wish both casual and hardcore fans would understand each other's way of enjoying the media better.

Different people like media on different degree and I feel like some don't understand that others wouldn't like it as much as they do or love it more than they do Casual fans don't understand the enthusiasm and love hardcore fans have for their favorite franchises and hard core fans don't understand not all people take fictional media as seriously as they do. This could be seen in online discussion, forums, communities and even sometimes among friends in real life.
This is a personal rant. This could be a two-part rant with another post.
I'll start by how casual fans don't understand hardcore fan. I'll use MCU and super-hero genre as the first example. Yes, MCU and super-hero movies have been repetitive. I have seen some people talk about how MCU is all CGI and big scale fights, how they are not enjoyable anymore. Every movie you go see is the same. And how some movies don't give the audience full plot or experience anymore and are just set-ups for something bigger like Endgame. I understand how this could be less enjoyable for casual viewers who just go to theatre for a 2-hour of enjoyment. Your enjoyment ends at the end of the movie. A movie with a fully written plot with closure at the end and not being in the same universe with other 100 movies and 300 series gives you the experience you are looking for.
But for some people, that is exactly the type of entertainment they are looking for. Having discussions online, reading and making theories and speculating the future movies based on the movie they just watched are also the way they enjoy the movie/franchise. Newer MCU movies focus less on their own plot and focus more on setting up what's about to come. And they is exactly what some people like.
Another example would be anime/mange of the same type. Future of Hunter X Hunter is unsure and fans (including me) want to see the Dark Continent. The concept of it and the way it was introduced is just so fascinating. I have had people online (not the HxH community of course) and friends said to me just read Toriko or manga with similar world building. Yes, I know it could work for some people. I could read Toriko or whatever and enjoy it to the fullest but it will never quench my thirst for more HxH. It's not that I really want to see a storyline where the world humanity know is just a small part of the bigger actual world. I want to see the exact bigger world called Dark Continent from HxH that Ging told Gon about. I want to see Gon, Killua, Kurapika and Leorio.
Why do I keep playing Assassin's Creed games even though they have gone full on RPG when I could play better RPG or games similar to old Assassin's Creed? Because I like the fact that the game I am playing is called Assassin's Creed and made by Ubisoft. Why do I keep reading Boruto when it's trash compared to Naruto and I could just read better Shounens? Because I love to see Naruto, Sauke and the world of Naruro created by Kishimoto. I believe I could say the same for some hardcore fans.
You could get enjoyment from just reading a good manga. But for some fans, including me, the enjoyment comes from reading a manga series we love whether it's good or bad.

2023.02.14 22:54 clingklop Passages, quotes, and random takeaways from "Barkley: A Biography" (2022)

These are various passages, quotes, and takeaways I found interesting from the 576 (!) page biography by Timothy Bella. I listened to it on audiobook. 16 hours 45 minutes. I'll start with selected passages from the book.
Big Ole Women
Three words caused the latest public uproar against Charles. Those same words also made Shaq laugh with such force that he would cry, cough, and wheeze for minutes on end. Big. Ol’. Women. Chuck had gone on for years about how his ass would look normal in San Antonio, which by and large, in his words, lacked skinny women. Now a spokesman for Weight Watchers, Charles joked how San Antonio would be a gold mine for the weight-loss and diet organization. To him, Victoria was a secret for the women of San Antonio, who were double-fisting churros and had to wear bloomers instead of racy lingerie.
His derogatory comments drew immediate national backlash and calls of apology from the women of San Antonio, city officials, and obesity awareness groups. Local journalists and bloggers ripped Chuck for body shaming, asking what his mother, wife, and daughter would think of what he said. Vanessa Macias, the girlfriend of Spurs legend Tim Duncan, made up tight-fitting shirts to show Chuck what he was missing.
Days later, Tim Kiely approached Charles about the public relations nightmare, O’Neal recalled. “Charles, you offended some people,” said Kiely, according to Shaq. Charles tentatively agreed that he would apologize on the playoff broadcast.
What began to sound like an apology went in another direction.
“Some of you people don’t like my sense of humor. Here’s what I got to say: Turn off your damn television. I’m not gonna change. If you don’t like me or the show, turn it off,” he said. “And they want me to apologize. That’s not gon’ happen. That’s not gon’ happen.” He added, “Y’all can write letters to your momma, your daddy, your uncle. I’m gonna have fun on television. You know that I’m joking around, but if y’all waiting on me to apologize, hell gonna freeze over.”
Smith asked again, to remind him why his colleague needed to apologize: “For me jokin’ about those big ol’ women down in San Antonio.”
He was unhappy to get picked by the Sixers “I left college for 75k?”
"In his first draft as league commissioner, the mustachioed David Stern announced Charles Barkley as the Sixers’ pick. The grin on the commissioner’s face turned to a smirk as the dozens inside the Felt Forum went crazy.
In truth, Charles was half listening to Stern until the commissioner uttered his first name. The announcement was not a total surprise, but still just as disappointing. He took a deep breath and bit his bottom lip before sauntering to the podium. Visibly dejected, he lowered his head and walked to meet Stern. What had he just done?
“The look on my face is, ‘Are you kidding me?’” Charles said of his reaction on Draft Night. “I wasn’t smiling because I was like, ‘I left college for $75,000.’”
Many decades later, Charles pointed out how seemingly everyone around him was savoring the moment—that is, except him. “When people go back and look at me walking, and they see that awful burgundy suit, everybody else is happy and Charles isn’t happy,” he said.
Kobe texts Charles angrily for three hours
"One person paying attention was Kobe Bryant—and he wasn’t in the mood for Charles’s shit. After Bryant put up just 3 shots in the second half of a Game 7 blowout loss to Phoenix in 2006, Charles labeled the superstar’s performance “very selfish,” accusing him of trying to prove a point that his otherwise lifeless Lakers team couldn’t do anything without him. The remarks enraged Bryant, who called Charles “stupid” for suggesting he was trying to tank the game. At around 2:00 a.m., Charles looked down at his phone inside Studio J and saw a text message. Bryant was pissed. And then another. And another. And many more.
“Kobe started texting me for the next three hours,” Charles said of the twenty to twenty-five messages he received from Kobe. “We’re going back and forth and he’s calling me every MF, every SOB in the world, and I’m laughing as I get these. I’m like, ‘Yo, man, pick up the phone and call me.’ [He said], ‘No, mo-fo.’”
“First of all,” he texted Bryant, “I’ve called you the best player in the world for the last three years and you didn’t exactly call and thank me. But I didn’t like what you did. And I knew what you were doing.”
The perception that Charles was right haunted Kobe so much that he went on Inside that same postseason to defend himself. The appearance of Bryant, in his light blue sweater-vest, white dress shirt, and gold tie, made Charles admit he was wrong to take his accusation to national television, a rare instance in which Chuck said he regretted publicly criticizing a player. They didn’t know each other very well, but the two made the moment into an inside joke, with Charles later admitting Bryant’s fiery responses were “awesome.”
Manute Bol Teasing and Appreciation
"[Manute] Bol, who would end up sprawled in the back seat of the Buick, was said to have killed a lion with a spear. According to legend, one day in his family’s home village in Turalei, Sudan, a teenage Bol saw a lion running across the pasture toward the cattle he was charged to protect and launched the spear that killed the lion in midair. The myth repeated over time drew skepticism and razzing from Charles, who had read about it in the newspaper.
“Man, you didn’t kill no lion,” Charles told his new teammate. “That lion was old and dead when you showed up.
...
Bol also became a target for the team’s lighthearted abuse and pranks. Hardly a day went by where Charles and Mahorn didn’t chase, wrestle or tape up Bol; or, in one case, stuff Bol inside of an equipment bag meant to hold a dozen balls. (“Charlie, let me out of the ball bag!”)
Bol was as curious as he was comical, once telling Charles that the problem with Black men in America is that they didn’t have any tribes and belonged nowhere as a result. Charles appreciated his perspective, once remarking that “if everyone in the world was a Manute Bol, it’s a world I’d want to live in.”
Shaq and Charles Fight, Their Mothers Step in
Charles’s frustration reached a boiling point on November 10, 1999, against the Lakers, when Shaq fouled Charles on the low post. O’Neal, who respected Charles but had no relationship with him at that point, blocked Charles’s shot and bumped his opponent’s bald head. Charles swung his elbows in response, and O’Neal offered a retaliatory push. At that point, O’Neal said he recognized the old guard was testing the new guard.
“I was determined that when it came to other legends, I did not want to really be their friends,” O’Neal said. “Of course, I respected Charles, but whenever I was out there playing, I was trying to rip his head off. I know he was the same way.”
Then, Charles fired the ball off the head of the Lakers center, who described the motion as “one of his Charles Barkley–like stupid things.”
“I was like, ‘Charles, I respect you, but now I gotta knock you out,’” O’Neal recalled.
The fight was on at the Compaq Center. O’Neal landed a glancing left punch to Charles’s head and Charles grabbed Shaq’s right leg for a lift-and-flip move, and got in a few short punches before both hit the floor. After the pair got ejected, Charles repeated a mantra: “Can’t let nobody hit me.”
The tussle got the attention of two women who wanted the nonsense to stop. In the locker room, Charles and Shaq both received a three-way call. A security guard handed O’Neal the phone and did not say who it was. On the line was not just his mom, Lucille, but also Charcey. Unbeknownst to Charles and O’Neal, their mothers had become best friends—and practically sisters.
“Don’t you hit my boy,” Charcey told the center, according to O’Neal.
The moms never planned to call their sons and didn’t take the scuffle personally, Lucille said. O’Neal’s mother saw them as kids on the playground who needed to figure it out, but Charcey still demanded accountability.
“She said, ‘Y’all need to stop!... We don’t want y’all fighting in front of the kids,’” O’Neal recounted.
“What was that all about?” Lucille remembered asking her son. “It’s a game! It’s a game!”
There was also another request: Kiss and make up. Answering “yes, ma’am,” O’Neal didn’t dare talk back to Charcey.
“My mom called right away, and we had to meet in the tunnel and shake hands,” O’Neal said, adding that they went out to dinner afterward.
The bond between their mothers created a mutual respect between them that would only strengthen over the years. But there would be no such goodwill two weeks later in Portland."
Jordan drama
“The guy was like a brother to me for, shoot, twenty-something years,” Charles said in 2020.
In Jordan’s second full year as majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, no team in league history had looked as hopeless. En route to a 7–59 mark in a lockout-shortened 2011–12 season, the Bobcats had all but clinched the worst season for a team in the history of the NBA. No one would dare come to Charlotte in free agency, and the team had whiffed on lottery pick after lottery pick, until UConn guard Kemba Walker showed promise.
Their poor performance was historic, but the notion that it came under Jordan felt particularly jarring. Jordan wasn’t supposed to be this bad at anything basketball related. Yet midway through the season, the team was last in offensive efficiency and second-to-last in defensive efficiency, which was enough for broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy to proclaim that Charlotte’s coach, Paul Silas, should win Coach of the Year for miraculously winning any games, period.
...
When asked about Michael’s performance as an owner and eye for talent in 2012, Charles did not beat around the bush. Jordan’s record had spoken for itself after hiring close friend and former Bulls teammate Rod Higgins as general manager. Charles mentioned one instance leading up to the 2006 Draft when Jordan, in his first year as manager of basketball operations, was leaning toward selecting Gonzaga forward Adam Morrison with the third overall pick. Charles thought there was no way that Morrison, the nice kid with the 3-point stroke, bushy hair, and wispy mustache, could play in the NBA and urged his friend to take Washington’s dynamic scorer, Brandon Roy.
...
“I think the biggest problem has been I don’t know if he has hired enough people around him who he will listen to. One thing about being famous is the people around you, you pay all their bills so they very rarely disagree with you because they want you to pick up the check,” Chuck said. “They want to fly around on your private jet so they never disagree with you. I don’t think Michael has hired enough people around him who will disagree.”
...
“I love Michael, but he just has not done a good job,” he said. “Even though he is one of my great friends, I can’t get on here and tell you he’s done a great job. He has not done a great job, plain and simple.”
The radio show went to commercial, and Charles noticed his phone was ringing. He looked down to see who was calling him. It was Michael.
He picked up the phone and, for one of the first times in his life, he couldn’t get a word in. Jordan took what he said personally.
“He is mf’ing me up and down, up and down, up and down,” Chuck said. “I didn’t think Michael was gonna react like that.”
When he hung up the phone, Charles didn’t realize it would be the last time he’d speak to a man forever connected to him, one who was akin to a brother.
...
“The thing that bothered me the most about that whole thing, I don’t think I said anything that bad,” he said. “The thing that really pissed me off about it later is Phil Jackson said the exact same thing.”
The longer the split lasted the more people questioned whether the two would ever repair their friendship. Sam Smith, author of The Jordan Rules, saw the bond between Michael and Charles as overrated, a partnership blown out of proportion to make for a better story for the media. Charles was very much his own man, which didn’t always vibe with what it meant to be in Jordan’s bubble.
“Charles has always had a strong, independent streak about him and with Michael, if you wanted to be a part of his group, you had to subjugate yourself to Michael. I think Michael enjoyed his company, but you really didn’t get the sense he was part of his group,” Smith said. “As Michael’s celebrity grew, these guys wanted to be around Michael’s shadow and aura, and that’s just not who Charles was. He didn’t want to be a follower.”
Kenny Smith did his part to try to squash the silence in October 2016 when Jordan, who was staying at the same hotel in New York, came down to the lobby to congratulate him on the show being inducted into the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame. Kenny was standing with Charles, and it was the first time he and Michael had seen or spoken to each other since their phone call four years earlier. They all took a quick photo together. Whatever tension existed looked to be overexaggerated, Smith said, and it was all high fives.
...
Four years later, with its arrival of the Michael Jordan documentary The Last Dance, came fresh takes on the Mike-Chuck bromance and its fallout.
On The Waddle & Silvy Show, the same radio program where he’d made his original comments, Charles acknowledged that the sadness over losing Jordan remained profound, but he’d come to accept it. Charles would not be the one to call Jordan, saying His Airness had his phone number and knew how to reach him.
Jordan would not apologize, and neither would he, Charles predicted. Thus, the two athletic superpowers remained in a Cold War–type standoff.
... “That’s never gonna happen. You can let that go,” he said to Le Batard. “That’s never gonna happen. I’m too stubborn for that.”
Charles and Shaq “fight” on Inside The Nba, mothers “intervene” again
When it came to the on-air chemistry between Charles and Shaq, the pair needed to strike a balance. Sometimes, Shaq would be the combative foil who pushed back against Charles and reminded him of his career shortcomings in every debate. Sometimes, he would play the comedic hype man. But since the beginning, their on-air arguments have followed a familiar pattern, reminiscent of an old married couple. Their verbal spats regularly generate headlines in both the blogosphere and establishment media like the Washington Post, the Guardian and USA Today. Charles, the man without any social media who says anyone who tweets likely lives out of their mother’s basement, regularly trends on Twitter, in part because of his devolved debates with Shaq.
Charcey [Barkley] and Lucille O’Neal didn’t need social media to hear about the shots their boys took at one another. They were usually watching, with one calling the other to talk about whatever it was they had gotten into the night before.
“We would talk to each other each day on the phone and Charcey would say, ‘There they go arguing again.’ I would just bust up laughing,” Lucille remembered. “I started calling Shaquille and said, ‘Didn’t we tell y’all to play nice?’”

Bonus:

Jordan’s talent
“I had to tell him, ‘Coach, there was one guy up there who’s the best player I’ve ever seen. It’s Michael Jordan,’” Charles said. “‘He was the only guy better than me.’”
Shut Up and Dribble
“Some people don’t want to hear from professional athletes, like this lady on Fox News who told LeBron James to shut up and dribble. And dribbling is like LeBron’s only fourth thing he’s good at—shooting, passing, and magically making his hairline come back,” he observed. “Look, I got a message for people who complain about athletes: We can do a lot more than dribble.”
Tons of controversy between excessive drinking, arrests, and speaking his mind. I did not realize how often he was controversial – most notably the misunderstood advertising campaign “I am not a role model” (he thought it was misunderstood as the focus should be on parents as the role model)
Claimed to be misquoted in his own autobiography.
Estimated he lost 30 million in gambling losses.
I just basically knew Charles Barkley from Inside The NBA and Space Jam . My main takeaway is that he spoke his mind and could get away with A LOT because of his charisma.
I did not realize how often his weight would be brought up in the text, or that was a lifelong criticism of his game (although "Sir Cumference” instead of “Sir Charles" got me to laugh.) He comes off as a bit of a brat at times, but that also led to some early player-empowerment positives. For the controversial Round Mound of Rebound who has an ability to laugh at himself I'll end on this quote:
"Six years out, Charles was starting to recognize his true legacy: every short, fat guy who plays basketball will remind fans of Charles Wade Barkley.
“That’s not a bad legacy,” he told friend and co-author Michael Wilbon. “There’s always going to be short, fat guys.”

Mission from the infirmary.
It’s about time I get this story down in its entirety. As a person who has practiced the spirit walk for a long time, you would think that it’s easier for me to reconcile with what happened, but the truth is that I do keep one foot in the practical world, and I live a modern life with a love for science and math.
I have always been able to ride both sides fairly easy. I don’t tell anyone what happens to me, and my online persona as either seeker79 or White Crane Feather remain almost like separate entities. Seeker79 is like my modern alter ego mixing science and mysticism, while White Crane Feather is my native american name. I don’t really separate them because they are me, but sometimes I almost feel like they are separate personalities that live in me. It’s odd because sometimes I can just tell who is talking. I am part Apachie and also Cherokee, but I'm also white. I didn’t grow up on a reservation or anything, but I was practically homeless growing up and the native american clinics took care of my mother and I.
Anyway, This is going to be a hard story to believe, but i’m going to give a step by step account from memory and my journal, so it’s going to be a bit long. Looking back, I try to see if there is any place Im embellishing my memory, or have created false memories. Sometimes I'm forced to ask myself if I was suffering from some sort of delusional episode. I can’t make that judgment because all I can say is that it happened, so ultimately it’s for whoever I tell about it to make a judgment call. I can tell you that I'm not lying. This is not creative writing. This happened to me. If someone told me this story I would do what i always do and believe them with one foot, and be skeptical and practical with the other.
It was Thanksgiving afternoon and the family was over. I was not feeling that well. I felt really off. I couldn’t quite place how I felt. It didn't feel good, but it wasn’t like I was sick. It was different.
The sofa was and chairs were full of people and they were all talking and enjoying each other, and i was trying to follow along. I was sitting on the floor with a bean bag propped up against the wall. I must have dozed off.
Well. At some point something hit me, and it hit me hard. I felt like I had just been hit by a car or something. I don’t recall a dream or anything prior to it, but there is an image of a sort of cloud rushing at me. I just felt like something slammed into me. Right there in front of my family I jumped to my feet in a gasp. I can’t explain it but it hit me so hard that I was just stunned. No lingering pain or anything, but the slam felt like it should have broken me, but I was fine… well not totally.
One of my family members calls my name and asks what is on my arm. On the inside of my left forearm, there is a welt of sorts. It almost looks like a pretty bad burn. It’s large and almost encompasses my whole forearm. There is something really strange about it. It’s like a flame pattern that is of perfect shape. It looks like someone branded me with a flame pattern of sorts. It looked a bit like the attached picture only it was just one of those solids and the ends artistically curled in a lot more. It did not look natural at all, and it was raised, like a severe histamine reaction or something.
Everyone in my family was looking at it, and they had seen me moments before and it wasn’t there, so they were all aware that it just appeared on me. Most of them thought I was having an allergic reaction to something. A couple of people told me I should go to the hospital. No one including myself had ever seen anything like that. The perfect shape made it really bizarre.
So at this point in my life, I was already skilled at the spirit walk. That’s what the culture on my native american side calls it and I prefer the term over “Astral Projection.” In another entry i’ll explain more about how all that started, but this wasn’t my first odd experience, but it certainly turned out to be the most fantastical.
Because I was aware this probably wasn’t something to be dealt with clinically, I shook off the calls from certain family members to go to the hospital. I told them I would go upstairs and take some benadryl and relax as I wasn't feeling all that well. It’s my house and I'm a grown man, so it’s not like anyone had any authority to make me go.
Of course I'm not going to take medication. My real plan is to go upstairs, lay down and initiate spirit walk mediations. It all worked perfectly. If you look around at astral projection threads, I basically do it how most the tutorials say to do it. In fact I have written a few myself. Relaxation, maintain awareness, let your consciousness sink, Vibration, threshold sounds, exit the body. If you have come by this story, then you probably already know this sequence whether you have been there yourself or not.
Now i’m out of my body standing over my bed and body. I didn’t think to look at my arm from that perspective, but it’s still on my spirit arm. For those of you who haven’t done this or are skeptical, all I can say is that it's a real phenomenon. Go watch the cartoon Avatar the last airbender. Ang spirit walks and even though it’s a cartoon, it’s pretty accurate.
I’m not sure exactly how I'm going to deal with this just yet, but the way it usually works is I go outside and either fly to or enter a different realm to speak with a guide. Or something will come to me. So I walked downstairs. My family is still milling around, but of course I'm in spirit, so they are oblivious.
I walk outside. My left arm where the flame pattern is is throbbing. I still don’t feel right. I’m just standing in my yard, i’m not sure how to go about finding out what is going on. But…. something is inside of me. I can feel it. Nothing has ever invaded me like this before. To be honest i didn’t think it was possible anything could attack me or get inside me, but i was doubting those sentiments at that moment. This is when I get a hold of myself. Being in spirit takes a certain kind of calm focus, and I was losing focus and my environment was turning dark. If I lost control I would end up back in my body. I put myself together and I just walk.
So this entry does not have the benefit of my back story of blogs from my journal that I used to share years ago, so there are some things I have to jump right into. Out of body, there is a blue current that I can see inside of all living things. It sparkles and it looks pretty awesome. It’s not a glow? but more like threads or like blood vessels. They are bigger and more rope-like as you get to the center of any living thing. They can come out and you can harness them, but it’s like copying the energy, because it stays in the organism as well. I don’t even really want to get into all this, because what is about to happen is crazy enough, but I am familiar with these currents.
As I'm walking, I just ask for help from nature. I did it mentally as a prayer of sorts and just asked for the Great Spirit (God if you like) or any of my friends to help me. I wasn’t scared in the normal sense. I know better than to let emotions hold me when I'm spirit, but I was concerned and confused at how this could happen. I let my hand with the “flame” on it go out from my body and my hand brushed a bush as I walked buy.
Something that had never happened before happened. The blue threads of energy moved from the bush and into my arm on their own as I brushed it. They instantly infiltrated the flame on my arm and started burning it. The threads from the bush kept coming and i don’t know how to explain it, but a sort of war erupted on my arm between the flame and the blue energy. It twisted together, glowed bright blue and red with sparks and shit shooting out of it. It burned so bad. I was in intense pain, but I couldn't stop it. Normally I have a lot of power to manifest what I need out of body, but none of this was my doing. There was something beyond my pay grade going on and I was just along for the ride. I bore down on the pain, and I wondered if maybe this time I would not return to my body. Everything i knew about the spirit walk told me I would be fine, but in these moments I doubted that faith because i had never experienced pain like this before.
It didn’t last that long. what ever the fuck was happening on my arm lasted about a minute relative to me i’m guessing, but being in that kind of pain made it intolerable.
When it was over, I was surprised to still be out of body. I thought for sure it would have sent me back yet there I was. Looking at my arm, the pattern was gone. It had been destroyed by the life force from the bush. At least that is the only way I can describe what I think happened.
A wave of gratitude washes over me. I just was so in awe that something so raw and physical could be taken care of this way. Blue energy is something I'm so … i don’t know how to say it…. in love with I guess is the best expression. Whatever was inside me was gon and it was a simple bush and the blue energy it holds that did it for me. God the great spirit answered me. I was just so grateful.
Stay with me here. Remember i’m in non ordinary reality. I’m in the spirit world, but for you non woo types, I'm in a very deep hypnagogic trance. The reason I say this is because what comes next is very bizar, and most people don’t have any context for this sort of thing unless they have done heroic doses of mushrooms or DMT. But it gets even stranger. All This is just the beginning.
I lift my chest up and float into the air. I surrender to the Great SpIrit and thank it profusely. I tell God that I belong to it and I will serve and surrender to however it can use me. I felt so much love for God and life and nature it was just washing over me.
My body starts to dissolve. I transition into a complete ego dissolution state. I become one with the universe and god with all things. No one can explain how this feels. Some people get there with psychedelics, but it’s like a spiritual orgasim but you spread out. Some of your ego has to be there still because if you don’t remember it, then how can we talk about it, but it feels like you are nothing and everything at the same time. It’s both exhilarating and terrifying, but not during. Those are emotions you can only have afterward.
Anyway, so it’s done. This bizarre and confusing incident is over. Whatever was in me has been defeated. I have been purified by the blue flames, and God and I have done our coom bi ya. I open my eyes expecting to be back in my bed. Not a chance. God has answered my offer to do what is needed.
I’m not back in my bed. I'm standing. I’m still in the spirit world. Its dark but there are shadows of mountains around me. There is a being of light standing what would be about 10 yards in front of me. She is robed in white and she glows with white light. Her face is sort of distorted. Not in a scary way, but when i see beings that are not human, yet are sentient like humans, I see them as human shape, but they always have this bit of distortion to them. They are also unusually tall. If I had to give it a height, i’d say about 7ft. Of course this is all in altered states of consciousness. This is my memory that interprets what i’m experiencing. Our psyche needs context, so it creates imagery to fit the stories unfolding before us. Really this is a non physical reality and there is no such thing as height.
It’s not the first time I have seen these beings. I know what they are. If you like the term angels, then it fits. I just call them beings of light.
Behind the being is a large building. I know this place too. It’s the infirmary. If you are unfamiliar with the term, it’s a place that many spirit walkers have found. The best way to describe it is a hospital. I don’t want to get into describing its function and all that, I just want to tell you about the events because this is going to be really long. It’s just getting started.
The being leads me into the infirmary. The other sound there try to grab you and pull at you as many are still in a state of suffering. There seems to be some sort of force field around me because they can’t get to me.
The being of light leads me as we go over all the obstacles. In the infirmary, there are odd blocks to passed ways. Doors on the ceiling or floor, odd turned over furniture. The place is like a distorted fun house.
The being leads me down and down until we come to a small room like a basement hospital room. Everything is white. There is a hospital bed but there is someone restrained in it. it’s a little tiny shriveled up man. It doesn't even look human. Maybe Goblin like. It’s almost cartoonish the way it looks. Something like Gollum on lord of the rings only smaller. There are 2 more beings of light here. There are contraptions that look like medical equipment, and there is a window high up as if we are in a basement like room. Outside the window is a tree. I recognize the tree. It’s a tree with really big almost tropical-like leaves that grow in the south. I spent some time in the south when i was a kid and these trees always had caterpillars on them. I enjoyed them as a kid, that’s why I remembered the tree so vividly.
I usually am pretty candid with spirits, so I simply say to the beings of light that i am here and what do they want me to do. They are never very articulate. One says a one liner “Keep him talking.”
At this point in my mind I'm taking everything very literally. I go to his bedside and try to think about something to say. I can’t think of anything so I look around the room for something to talk about, but the only thing that stands out is the tree I can see from the window. it’s out of place too. There really isn’t any color here, lots of white and grays, but the tree is an explosion of green. I try to tell the story about when I used to play with caterpillars on trees like that, but I could never finish.
Suddenly I'm back in bed. I sit up. I look at my arm and the pattern is indeed gone. Before I even have another thought my phone beeps that I got a new email. I look at my phone and read the message. It’s from a young guy who has contacted me because of conversations about spirit walking and things on an online forum I used to visit a lot. He wants to know what happens to him if he kills himself. Eveidentently he is planning on going through with and he has a date. (If you know anything about suicide psychology, when someone has a date, it’s a huge red flag that the mean to do it).
Chills run up my spine, as the words “Keep him talking” were spoken to me just moments before this.
Not done with this yet. the story gets longer, more complicated and crazier. Part 2 coming soon. But I’ll just add it here.

2023.02.14 18:11 clingklop Passages, quotes, and random take away from "Barkley: A Biography" (2022)

These are various passages, quotes, and takeaways I found interesting from the 576 (!) page biography by Timothy Bella. I listened to it on audiobook. 16 hours 45 minutes. I'll start with selected excerpts from the book.

Miya Yotsuba 🍀

VS

Chie Koishikawa 🏵️

Luck & Speed II
The Fifth Generation is here! Ichigaya’s Lucky Charm, Miya Yotsuba, has become a fan favorite since her debut. Named for the Four Leaf Clover, she has a vibrant set of blue-green gear and a great signature pose. This charismatic Rookie not only brings luck to the table, but also a whole lot of strength. She even tried to stand up to Sayaka’s immense striking! The new powerhouse has begun a series of difficult matches against her seniors, in order to speed up her adjustment to Ichigaya’s strange (and cruel) world. Speaking of Speed, she’ll be once again facing off against Ichigaya’s fastest in the Ace of the Fourth Generation! These two have the early sparks of a rivalry, because the Rookie isn’t finished with Chie yet! Good luck, Miya!
“Say Hello”, because Chie Koishikawa has arrived to dish out some of her signature speed chops! The Frantic Fencer is known for having "Too Much Energy", lots of emotion, and a flashy move set (lots of aerial striking) that compliments her boundless charisma. Chie is an unpredictable ball of chaos who you’ll be overwhelmed by (in a good way). She has grown to the point that she is a legitimate rival to Mei, but represents a very fast moving wall for the Goblin’s student! Chie has so far been able to run circles around the powerful Lucky Charm. ChocoPro’s resident speed star will once again seek to punish the Rookie, but she had better be prepared: Miya is gonna be a big deal! Watch out for those Hammers!

Super Ultra Amigos (Anarko Montaña ⛰️ & Sayaka Obihiro 💙)

VS

Antonio Honda 🍯 & Masa Takanashi 🍶

Super Ultra Amigos
“Super Ultra Amigos”, Anarko Montaña and Sayaka Obihiro, have become one of the most fun combinations in ChocoPro! Anarko brings an unhinged anarchy to the Square, with explosive aerial maneuvers and a strange charisma that translates to any language. His trickery and physical comedy are only outdone by his intense pace and wicked move set. This Punk has become a natural fit in ChocoPro! When paired with the chaos and shenanigans that Obi brings, this volatile duo hits the screen like a molotov cocktail. They even gave the Best Bros a run for their money! Obihiro has the same wild energy as her partner, but also a load of heavy chops, thrusts, and flash pins. The Soul of GTMV is known for her ability to coordinate with anyone, but these two together are starting to reach the upper limits of the synergy scale. What kind of bizarre and exciting tag skills will they have cooked up? Will we see more fusion tactics? Strap yourselves in for this match...One last ride before Anarko’s tour ends!
Speaking of weird energy, Antonio Honda brings his unique brand of slapstick violence and old wrestling references back to Ichigaya! While we haven’t seen the bearer of the ancient fox spirit as much these days, “Storyteller” Anton (outside of the Comaneci) is a core member of the ChocoPro lore. His stellar singles record speaks for itself (partially thanks to his ability to manipulate both the rules of the match and reality for that matter) but don’t count him out of this tag match just because he favors comedy! Will we finally see a return by Gon? This time he’ll be pairing up with fellow vet Masa! As we saw yesterday, Masa Takanashi is like a fish in the sea when it comes to makeshift tag matches (even if that one didn’t end with a win, at least they got to drink afterward!). His flashy counter-fighter style is incredibly effective against multiple opponents, notably in his Calamari Drunken Kings matches. Will the smooth as spider silk technician find some new challengers for the titles soon? Good luck, champ! (Expect the Drunken Monkey to really go off here!) There is a lot of wild electricity in this match.

Best Bros (Mei Suruga 🍎 & Baliyan Akki ♠️)

VS

Hagane Shinno ⚔️ & Sawasdee Kamen 💛

Bros Be Back II
The Best Bros are at it again! This high synergy elite team really is among the best ChocoPro can field (which is saying a lot!). While we're still adjusting to having them back, the Best Bros have only gotten better during their time away. While the Apple Genius Girl is infamous for her goblin ways, expect her to pull off feats of agility and wrestling prowess that will show why she is so popular around the world! She will taste you though, if you aren’t careful! Baliyan Akki is the breezy all arounder of the pair, elevating his skills in all categories (and every match he's present in) at a rate unheard of these days...not to mention growing some killer facial hair! While the Zephyr of Ichigaya is definitely meant for a larger stage, his journey begins by bringing the Super Asia title (his precious blue belt) to the forefront of the wrestling landscape. How does the Wind blessed high flyer pull this off? After he unleashes some of that smooth striking, intense mat work, and even unorthodox wall flips (and sometimes wall destruction) that will blow your mind...you'll know exactly why he's the Ace of ChocoPro. Where do the Bros plan to win? Right There!
Having only recently returned from his own journey to America (facing names like Wheeler Yuta, Kenny Omega, Eddie Kingston, Malakai Black, and Juice Robinson), Hagane Shinno has started to feel like a rare guest instead of a regular! The time away from the Chocolate Square hasn’t dulled the “blade” of this assassin, however. In fact...he seems to be returning to the icy brutality of his earlier season matches! The Cold Killer is known for his relentlessly aggressive striking and technique. His icy demeanor and monstrously heavy attacks will have you and his foes wincing in pain. There is something unearthly about this hauntingly calm and cruel character! Without Chie to balance out his viciousness, Hagane tends to push the limits. His partner, the Mysterious Hero Sawasdee Kamen, is quite a character. The Grumpy Icon and “Symbol of Gatoh Move” might not be known for his heroics outside the ring (or Square) but he is certainly known to deliver justice within. This acrobatic (and enigmatic) man comes and goes as he pleases, usually only talking to bully Mei Suruga (who sometimes deserves it, lets be honest). Will the Yellow Angel of Thailand reignite his old ways? The balance of bad attitude with the heroic gimmick is pretty funny. These two are straightforward killers with generally frosty attitudes: this is a cold as ice combination! Can the Best Bros bring down such a team? Find out tonight!
We’re back into the swing of things!
Come and see the wild creativity that produced Two of the Seven AEW Women's World Champions! (Both of which have appeared on ChocoPro!) You'll be wondering if you're seeing future champs, as well. ChocoPro is the Frontier of Pro Wrestling! Match after match of hard hitting, chaotic, fun bouts with a friendly online audience. We're quickly growing, and you're welcome to come along!
Here are some Frequently Asked Questions:

“What is this?”

ChocoPro is a free online promotion run by AEW's Emi Sakura, that takes place in the legendary Ichigaya Chocolate Square! It features a steady pace of live Episode releases, fan interaction, season long story arcs, and much more! A place where the turnbuckles are replaced with 14th floor windows, the ropes are often replaced with fans, unforgiving walls provide creative avenues for skills otherwise unthinkable, and you can take solace in knowing that the referees usually do nothing. While it might be a shocking change at first, the intensity and storytelling will leave you wanting more.

“Why are they fighting in ____?”

Short answer is that it is a cost effective, unique venue with a better availability schedule and allows the roster access for training. Emi Sakura has been using this place for a long time, and you might be surprised at some of the names that have used it (even outside of ChocoPro!). There are a few in-ring Episodes and Gatoh Move has in ring shows with crowds on the YouTube channel. Think of it like the Hart Dungeon but as a promotion, if that helps!

”What are the rules?”

While special match stipulations will usually be explained before the respective matches, the general rules of ChocoPro are simple. Pins only count on the Chocolate Mat and are not broken by the edge or Wall. Submissions usually only count on the Chocolate Mat, and ARE broken by reaching the edge or wall (sometimes ceiling...). Double pins and Double submissions are legal (and encouraged) in ChocoPro Tag matches, meaning cohesive teams will always have the advantage! Count Outs only exist if specified, since many matches stray from the comfort of the Chocolate Square into the streets (and the rest of the building itself!) There is a Time Limit for each bout (based on card placement and importance) and the Referee has discretion (even if they tend to do nothing most of the time!). Every Ref is different, some have different levels of bias and speed.

“How can I support them?”

Watch the show! Even if you can't see it live, the views matter! Like & Subscribe! You can join the Channel's membership for different tiers of perks...but also, you can buy single episode Sponsorship, Digital autographed photos, and more on their shop site as well as purchase shirts from PWTees (which features some great options!) If you'd like to donate or purchase a main wall sponsorship, you can via Paypal or Patreon...and don't forget to cheer for your favorites! (especially if you want to do a superchat!)

”How come there aren’t a lot of comments on the threads?”

ChocoPro is a YouTube show, meaning the discourse happens live...in the chat! Those that comment in the threads on here tend to do so in order to help new viewers that might be intimidated by the fast moving chat. Don’t be afraid to just dive in though, the community is friendly.

“Why are you posting this here? / Are you paid for this?”

This is a wrestling forum, and I'm trying to broaden the horizons of others! There is a lot of good wrestling out there...Plus growing the fan base means more people for me to joke around with! I honestly do believe this is what a lot of fans are looking for, even if it is too different for some! But different tastes are good. Variety is the spice of life. This is a labor of love (it really doesn't take that long) considering how much work they do to put on so many shows...for free!
If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me on here or on Twitter, where I’m relaxing! ChocoPro is still Best Bros!

2023.01.30 12:18 KaSextortionists23 *Sextortion* 48 Hours After The Incident.

Didn't even have reddit the previous day but i found out that this forum was helpful to a lot of people. So long story short, account added me, in the past i succesfully managed to troll and get financial - sexual - 'hacker' scammers etc, but this one was different, they monitored my life for a while dropped some info on deleted posts and stuff, i fell for it aint gon lie, they indeed move you to SC to record on their screens, i managed to block & delete the infected accounts, plus i didn't paid and filed reports to IC3(which i know they won't bother, just for the statistics) and my country's federal services. I know they won't find them but let's try keep people safe. I indeed messed with him/heIT a bit that's why im a bit afraid for the outcome, no follows, no requests, no dms, nothing, accounts don't appear anywhere since i informed some of my really closed friends. Thinking and thanking the odds will be on my side. What's your opinion?

SAKI 🦁 & Gota Ihashi 🆕

VS

Ken Ohka 🤠 & Sayaka Obihiro 💙

DDT’s Restaurant Ebisco Sakaba
In this Restaurant Staff battle, we’re kicking off with the alluring & powerful SAKI! Still fresh off her recent 10th Anniversary, the vibrantly geared figurehead of the COLOR’S Unit tends to dominate the wrestling landscape (as she should, because SAKI rules). She even appears quite often for STARDOM! The Suplex machine that loves animals and the rest of her group are definitely leaving their mark. The “Kawaild” SAKI is known for her ability to adapt (not to mention her sumo infused techniques and heavy hitting wild style!) and her natural chemistry with anyone really is off the charts. This will be the true test of that fact, since she’ll be pairing with the hopeless romantic known as Gota Ihashi! While he might have started as a comedy clone of Kota Ibushi, Gota has found his place bringing joy to fans at both Ebisco and DDT...he’s a 13 year veteran now! His shocking agility and over the top antics make for an entertaining character, so he should fit into the world of Chocopro fairly well. He’s unfortunately also easily smitten, which might come into play during his debut bout, given his Kawaild partner! Either way, this one should be a lot of fun. It seems Ebisco’s cooks love wrestling at Ichigaya! Did you know he was once a Trios champ alongside the Golden Lovers in Golden Rendezvous?
Ken Ohka, the figurehead and hero of Ganbare Pro-wrestling, is basically a regular part of ChocoPro as well at this point. When he’s not working with food at Ebisco or getting the crowd roaring at GanPro, he’s spearing someone out of their boots in Ichigaya! Ohka's dream is wild, free, and very loud! GanPro is definitely worth checking out, with the promotion recently announcing Joshi only shows (GanJo), a singles tournament, and tag belts! Ken Ohka is leading them into a bright future! This man is enthusiastic about everything he does. Be careful not to be overwhelmed by his charm...and considering he’s pairing with Obi, that’s gonna be a lot of charisma and volume in one place! Sayaka Obihiro is the Soul of Gatoh Move! This certified chef is not only a vibrant character, but also shows a great deal of speed, strength, and creativity helping her stand out the moment you lay eyes on her. Unconventional combos, heavy chops, and wicked flash pins are a staple of the Blue Heart’s matches. While her usual cohort runs amok over in Thailand at SETUP (We miss you, Kozo!), Obi will make UMA proud as always by showing just how awesome she is. Speaking of UMA, given that this is an Ebisco related match, their mysterious agent will be visiting soon...(This match will also feature a Special Referee...in KUDO!)

IYASARERUZ (Antonio Honda 🍯 & Chris Brookes 🐙)

VS

Yasu Urano 💚 & Masamune 🐲

IYASARERUZ
DDT's IYASARERUZ (Antonio Honda & Chris Brookes) is hard to describe. This DDT-born wild card pairing of ChocoPro frequents is another case of “how can they work together so well?” Tsundere Submission Specialist, Chris Brookes, finds himself playing the straight man to his comedic genius of a partner. He's known for his Tag Specialization, since Chrissy B can adapt to just about any situation. While he is known for his ability to bend and break, Chris actually possesses a fairly balanced style that punishes foes in a variety of ways until he finally contorts them beyond recognition. His partner, Antonio Honda, is not actually from Italy. This shocking secret (paired with the fact he might have died and been reborn several times) is just one of the many mysterious notes about the Storyteller extraordinaire. With a great grasp of comedic timing and a quick wit, Anton tends to make each match memorable. Will his ancient fox spirit, Gon, make an appearance? Will the guitar make an appearance? There are so many possibilities! These two “Healed” villains might just steal the show.
Yasu Urano! Urano has only recently returned to the promotion, but his loud antics and less than honorable style are easily understandable. This ruthless student of Taka Michinoku has had a long career and thus has veteran experience to pair with his wicked ways! While his disdain for pro-wrestling might not be obvious, the burden (that he just so happens to be quite good at) has seen him travel all over the world. Did you know he recently met Mercedes Monè? He’ll be partnering with the window diving Masked Fighter Masamune! A veteran of 20 years, Masamune was greatly influenced by Lucha Libre. Inspired by the historical figure Date Masamune (the original One Eyed Dragon), his unique look is visually striking: especially that entrance! This flashy technician’s style revolves around flowing transitions and submissions. He’s one of the most unique frequent guests of the promotion and always a great time. How will these two wildly different personalities mesh together?

Masa Takanashi 🍶

VS

Ryuichi Sekine 🐗

Sekine’s Back, Masa’s Birthday!
Masa Takanashi had a great year in 2022, proving just how valuable he is as an asset to multiple promotions. Having now reached level 40 in life, he’ll be looking to greet the new decade by taking on a foe he didn’t get to face before! Whether teaming with Chris Brookes in the Double Champs CDK, testing rookies in intense bouts, or just showing off his comedy chops...Masa rules. The Birthday boy is often referred to as the “Drunken Monkey”, and this wild brawler with a unique style is one of a kind. He is a swaying, smooth as butter Counter Style fighter. If you've never experienced a defensive technician, buckle up! He'll damage your limbs, your nose, and probably your ego! Masa is a blast in singles action, expect him to go all out on his birthday. Takanashi dazzles new fans with his unpredictable reversals and nonchalant attitude. He’ll be fighting basically the complete opposite of this style tonight!
Ryuichi Sekine hasn’t been in ChocoPro since Episode 85! That was actually the last match of the BASARA regular for roughly two years, taking time off to focus on his real life and self...and to get married to TJPW’s recently retired Nodoka Tenma! Sekine is a loud, wild, completely chaotic element when it comes to Ichigaya. His last run saw him obliterating stools and the environment alike! He even went to a draw with Emi Sakura during the height of her ChocoPro tenure. This violent farmer would stop at nothing to entertain the audience, unleashing an explosive way of fighting that usually ends with the opponent locked into the Combine. Much like his emoji (the wild boar), expect Sekine to once again rampage uncontrollably through ChocoPro in order to bring Masa the best birthday possible. With violence.
Happy Birthday, Masa. Cheers!

Miya Yotsuba 🍀

VS

Sawasdee Kamen 💛

Luck & Hero
She’s had quite a week but Ichigaya’s Lucky Charm, Miya Yotsuba, is still going strong! Having been named for the Four Leaf Clover, Rookie Miya has an unbreakable will, a ton of power, and a unique entrance pose. Miya brings a strength infused nature that keeps getting flashier. The new powerhouse in town has begun a series of difficult matches against her seniors (facing clowns & fortune tellers, joining evil gangs, etc), in order to speed up her adjustment to Ichigaya’s strange and cruel world. Miya is starting to give the best a run for their money with her raw power and sheer determination! Expect her first victory before too long...Although it is going to be difficult to bring down SK. He is severe and relentless! Good luck, Miya!
The Grumpy Icon returns! The Mysterious Hero, Sawasdee Kamen, is quite a character. The Symbol of Gatoh Move might not be known for his heroics outside the ring (or Square) but he is certainly known to deliver justice within. Whether or not this justice is actually a good thing is debatable, but it is definitely dispensed. This acrobatic (and enigmatic) man comes and goes as he pleases, usually only talking to bully Mei Suruga (who sometimes deserves it, lets be honest). Will the Yellow Angel of Thailand act different toward Mei’s student? The balance of bad attitude with the heroic gimmick is pretty funny...and given that he tends to be very serious while ChocoPro leans toward...less serious side of things...he probably won't be in the best mood. This will be yet another good test for Miya!

Antonio Honda 🍯 & Masa Takanashi 🍶

VS

Kaori Yoneyama 🍚 & Sayaka Obihiro 💙

Shuffle Substitution
Antonio Honda brings his unique brand of slapstick violence and old wrestling references back to Ichigaya! While we haven’t seen the bearer of the ancient fox spirit solo very much as of late, “Storyteller” Anton (outside of the Comaneci) is a core member of the ChocoPro lore. His stellar singles record speaks for itself (partially thanks to his ability to manipulate both the rules of the match and reality for that matter) so don’t count him out just because he favors comedy! Will we finally see a return by Gon? Since his usual partner is out with a minor injury (Get well soon, Otoki!), he’ll be pairing up with fellow vet Masa! Masa Takanashi is like a fish in the sea when it comes to pick-up tag matches. His flashy counter-fighter style is incredibly effective against multiple opponents, as we often see in his Calamari Drunken Kings matches. Tag specialists in random teams are a rare treat we don’t get to experience as often in the modern western landscape, but the unpredictability adds a lot! Will the smooth as spider silk technician use this as a practice match for his upcoming DDT Tag Title shot against ShunMAO? Good luck, champ! (Expect the Drunken Monkey to really go wild here!)
Kaori Yoneyama is a nightmare to face alone, but is even scarier in a tag setting! Despite her shy and passive nature outside the ring, there is a sort of controlled chaos to Yoneyama's style of wrestling. Her mastery of roll-ups and reversals make her a threat at all times...and she is one of the trickier veterans around! But this week has held a lot of wrestling and Kaori is always super busy after all. Between appearing as a surly clown for STARDOM, running her own Promotion (YMZ), and kicking ass all over the place, she has a pretty tight schedule. With this being her first ChocoPro of the year, expect Yoneyama’s absurd antics to be dialed up to 11. Her partner, Sayaka Obihiro, looks to continue celebrating the new year! She’s always cooking in the ring...when she isn’t doing so at her other job as a certified chef! Obi is the Soul of Gatoh Move, but its always nice to see her paired with a Goblin (Yoneyama is the original!). She has a great deal of speed, strength, personality, and creativity...immediately making her stand out the moment you lay eyes on her. Obi’s crisp technique and explosive nature only add to it all, with unconventional combos and flash pins being a staple of the her matches. Obi endured the last year without injury, hitting her goal and growing even more loud and wild in the process. This is gonna be chaotic!

Mei Suruga 🍎 & Anarko Montaña ⛰️

VS

Chie Koishikawa 🏵️ & Shin Suzuki 🍙

The Warmest Battle
Mei Suruga has been afflicted by a rabbit curse! While the Genius of ChocoPro is usually known for her strategic mind and an intense technical ability, lately the New Year has been inspiring her to stomp and do bunny ears as taunts! Mei’s bunny fascination kind of makes sense, since she is only lacking in size and power (something she usually makes up for with her cruel goblin tactics). Even if she’s back to normal now, the Apple Goblin is talented far beyond what her four years in wrestling would normally yield. She has been showing off her pin and submission specializations across the globe, after all! She’ll be teaming up with Anarko Montaña! The Chilean High-Flyer known as “El Viva Le Punk” has been a joy to have in Ichigaya. Will he have recovered from his hangover? Anarko possesses a wild personality and a deep level of innovation. Expect a lot of fun adaptability and creativity, especially against multiple foes at once! His big presence and expressive movements despite his complex mask (even as a rabbit occasionally) make for a fun combo. He’s got a lot of charisma and a lot of different looks! Anarko’s dynamic style and delightful attitude have grown quite popular among the Ichigaya faithful, he’s been a great addition to the promotion! This team has a lot of volatile potential.
“Too Much Energy” Chie Koishikawa keeps getting better! The hyperactive rising star is known for her wild, passionate nature and boundless agility. This frantic former fencer deals out backhanded knuckle chops, aerial slashes, and Stretch Mufflers with ease. The future is bright for Ichigaya’s speedhouse! Chie has been an absolute workhorse for ChocoPro and deserves all the fans she gained. While she is known for her teams with Hagane Shinno and Sayaka respectively, this time she’ll be paired with her old pal Shin Suzuki! Don’t forget: he is the balance expert who once led the two of them to victory over the Best Bros! Shin has become a mainstay of the promotion: His magnetic personality, strong body control, and overwhelming vitality fit well with the general vibe of Ichigaya. Shin’s character expanded quite over time, showing a knack for pairing with just about anybody and even teasing a bit of a ruthless side himself! How will this Onigiri loving team work together after all this time? Can they overcome Mei once again? Will Anarko still be a drunk bunny? This is gonna be nuts.

Also sometimes DJ Nira...

A place where the turnbuckles are replaced with 14th floor windows, unforgiving walls provide creative avenues for skills otherwise unthinkable, and you can take solace in knowing that the referees usually do nothing.

There are a few in-ring Episodes, and Gatoh Move has in ring shows with crowds on the YouTube channel.

”What is the difference between ChocoPro & ChocoPro Peoples?”

Live crowds! This changes the space available and the vibe overall.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me on here or on Twitter, where I’m looking at gifs! ChocoPro is full of Rabbits!
Season Tracker: We're 18/18+ into Season 16! (Each Season is usually around 18 episodes)

2022.12.24 20:11 Axios_Moirai Issue with controller detection

Just set up my Shield Pro, and Moonlight.
I connected my Xbox Elite series controller just fine it can navigate menus and launch games. It works in most games except the one I want. When I launch Dragon age inquisition, I get to the title screen and it says press start.
At this point the controller isn't working as intended. Normally if a controller isn't present the game will yell at you saying as much. I do not get this warning however, which means it sees the controller it just won't do anything.
Tried using Moonlight and Just Nvidia Games, neither is working.
I do get a windows message saying I have multiple controllers detected and to choose a default. I follow these instructions but only the one controller is displayed in the windows USB controller settings.
I was playing this game just yesterday on steam link hard ware through steam link without issues. I haven't tried using steam link on the shield it's self. That will be the next thing I try.
EDIT: I got it working not an issue with the Shield, Gamestream, or Moonlight. Just crap EA / Bioware code. The fix was to

  1. launch the game on my pc with no controller plugged in.
  2. Load a save game
  3. change a setting to resave your profiles and stuff. (I choose just to turn on Friendly fire)
  4. Save and exit the game
  5. start the game again on your streaming devise with your controller paired to it.

It should pick up the controller now. At least it did for me.

2022.12.21 03:23 justfortheaitaposts who tf am i anyway (16F)?

so number one idek if this is like the right forum to be posting this to, but i figure someone in here can help me out. so i been thinking about it like all day today, and i think i’m comfortable saying i’m a heteromantic bisexual who’s also somewhere on the ace spectrum? definitely not asexual but i know enough about how other people view sex/sexual attraction to know what i think about it isn’t the norm. anyways, i was just thinking about it earlier and realized that i still don’t know what to call myself? like if someone were to ask me my sexuality, i wouldn’t say “oh i’m actually a heteromantic bisexual gray ace woman.” like maybe i’m trippin but that just seems like a really lame answer lol. and also it’s entirely too much and ain’t nobody asked for all of that. so i’m just wondering, given my sexuality, how could i sum it up in one word? i know there’s the word queer but idk if that’s like a word i should be using to describe myself. especially given the fact that there’s no doubt in my mind that i want to (WAY later in life) be in a long term relationship with a man, not a woman. so i’ve been calling myself straight all my life and i’m pretty sure that’s what i’m gonna continue to do. it doesn’t really bother me or make me feel like i’m lying to myself when i use that term. but is there like a better word for my sexuality? i’m kinda just rambling atp so i’m gon wrap it up. ok bye!
EDIT: i forgot to add that ik there is an option to just not go by labels, and i respect people who don’t label themselves a lot, but i’m somebody that very much likes labels lol. i want a label on my sexuality.
