2023.06.04 06:09 Main-Street-Pianist I'm fairly new to reddit so I'm still getting the hang of things. I frequently play the street piano on main street located next to the Chipotle. I'm usually around in the late afternoon as well as nights (starting after 9 P.M.). Don't be afraid to stop by if you like what you hear :)

2023.06.02 13:02 RoseBlack2222 When It's All About To End

Part 1

Never trust someone who can easily get themselves out of danger to protect you from it.

August 14, 2052, freshwater sources have been depleted in the Middle East. Scientists are working to find a solution amidst rising acid levels in the ocean.

"What are you looking at?"

Carlo stared up from his phone. Jerell was rummaging through the pantry for something to fix and settled on some instant pancake mix.

“Just some more news. Shit’s bad across the globe.”

“Yeah, there’s no getting away from it unless you’re like Glen Dalton.”

Carlo sneered.

“That greedy piece of shit. You know, the other day I read that he and some other rich fucks were designing something so that they could escape the climate crisis.”

“Who said that?”

Jerell put their iron skillet on the stove and turned on the heat.

“A most likely now former employee of his, but his pr team must be monitoring things twenty-four-seven. The post was taken down within minutes. Luckily, I thought to get a screengrab of it.”

“So what are they coming up with then? Underground bunkers?”

“Could be, the poster said they were eavesdropping on some meetings.”

Jerell put some mix in a bowl along with cold water and stirred as Carlo went on.

“I’ll never understand the mentality. How can they think spending the rest of their lives cooped up won’t make them insane?”

“Ego?”

“Yeah, probably. I’ve also heard that Chipotle has been closing down stores in what they refer to as nonprofitable areas.”

“So in other words, high crime?”

Carlo chuckled. Jerell put some batter on the skillet.

“Our location might not be far off. Maybe we should start job hunting.”

“Where? If they’re shutting down that means other businesses will be too.”

“Well, that’s another bridge to cross then. Maybe all of us should see about getting transferred.”

They had their pancakes drizzled in syrup with some cups of black coffee. When they were through eating, they brushed their teeth and then went out to the bus stop. During the ride, which was packed they had to listen to people ramble on about gas prices.

“The whole world’s gone to shit and that’s still all people seem to care about,” Carlo thought with an eye roll.

He exchanged a glance with Jerell who judging by his expression was thinking something similar. Not much had changed in the past two years other than their workload. On the plus side, they’d been making some traction with their music. It was slow, but progress nonetheless. The same could be said about Mona’s writing as well as Irene’s art.

When they reached the store, they found Mona sleeping at the back desk with her head over some papers.

“Did she spend all night here?” Jerell asked.

“Looks like it.”

Carlo lightly shook her shoulder. She gasped and sat up.

“Oh fuck,” she groaned, “what time is it?”

“A few hours until we open,” Carlo informed her.

She rubbed her temples, then opened a desk drawer, containing a Five Hour Energy. She cracked it open and downed it.

“What were you working on?” Jerell asked.

“Some paperwork Fred was supposed to do.”

“He coming in?”

“No, he’s on vacation, again.”

They had their work cut out for them. Irene arrived as they were about to open. The day went as usual, being busy yet monotonous. Something rare then occurred. The store slowed down. In fact, there were no customers.

“Okay, does anyone else feel freaked out right now?” Carlo asked.

“It is weird,” Mona agreed, “but we should just be thankful for it. By the way, I was wanting to talk to you all about something.”

When she had their attention, she went on.

“I was wondering if any of you wanted to collab?”

Jereall answered.

“I mean, we’d love to. How exactly would this work, though? I mean, me and Carlo are on music, Irene has her art, and you have your stories.”

“Well, I was thinking maybe I could give you guys a story to write some lyrics about, and then Irene can make some background art.”

Irene spoke up.

“I’d be up for it, but where would we find the time to put this all together?”

“I say we brainstorm now, then we can each work on our own parts and eventually put it all together.”

They agreed and the impromptu session began. The genre they decided on was a mix of dark fantasy and horror. They knew that they needed to get it done whatever they were making before their enthusiasm wore out. Mona would be the first to work on it, making her story. After that, she’d present it to the others so that art and a song could be made of it.

Elsewhere, trouble was brewing. Glen Dalton was not having a good day. During the past two years, he’d been having trouble quelling his workers. Sure, bribing politicians was easy enough, and so was convincing the general population of his greatness. However, getting people who were working under him to see the same view was more challenging.

Why was it so hard for them to fall in line? He’d provided jobs for them which was more than most people got these days. Not to mention, he always made sure they had long hours so they could afford to pay their expenses. Nobody was grateful. His parents worked hard to establish their empire and when it fell to him he was smart enough to hire people to help him manage.

What followed was supposed to be him enjoying his life. Instead, there was hardly anywhere he could go without encountering the parasites, be it his ingrate employees or the shoe kissers. At least he wouldn’t need to worry about dealing with them for too much longer, according to his hired researchers. In public, their opinion was the actions of his businesses and the climate crisis were in no way related. In private, they were constantly messaging him that the planet would in all likelihood not be fit for human life maybe even sooner than they were able to predict.

This had been the case for a while. Therefore, he hired engineers to work on a means of him escaping the coming disaster. It was something he intended to keep under wraps if not for one of his ex-employees. Although his social media monitors took it down almost immediately, many saw it, and the damage was done. It wasn’t his fans turning on him that he was worried about.

He knew that no matter what he did he would always have their loyalty. Rather, the more pressing concern was that the information would cause his opposers to throw caution to the wind and try to take him out along with his associates. Despite this, he was confident his people would finish things before everything reached a boiling point. For the first time that day, he allowed himself to smile. In his experience, patience paid off.

In the coming months, things would get far worse than anyone could’ve foreseen. While a lot of this could be attributed to the Dalton factories releasing gases into the air, it wasn’t something people needed to concern themselves with. No, they were more worried about who wanted to marry who or how someone chose to present themselves. Obviously, these things were far more important than the habitability of the Earth. People tended to have this ability to ignore an issue even as it stared them in the face.

However, some were fully aware of what was to come and no matter how hard they tried to get others to see it, they just wouldn’t. Others knew this was fruitless and so instead chose to prioritize their quality of life over quantity, what little they had to work with. The group that was especially good at this were artists. The reason being they possessed the unique ability to turn pain into drive. Such was the case for Mona and the others.

The project was slow to come together. When it did, it turned out better than they imagined. Mona’s story was set in another world full of gods and monsters. Someone tried to rebel against them and failed. Their punishment was an endless loop. They were sent to the deepest darkest part of the world.

Climbing out of it was possible. Unfortunately, every time they reached the top a monster controlled by the gods knocked them back down. Carlo and Jerell wrote lyrics detailing the rebel's pain, not only physical as the skin peeled to the bone with each climb but also mental of coming so close to freedom only to have it snatched away. Lastly, Irene painted the rebel on their back, haven fallen yet again and reaching a scabbed and bloodied arm toward the light. When it was all put together, they uploaded it where they could.

The reception for it was better than they expected. While there were some who did not care for it, others praised the creativity of the music and art. Mona saw more comments on her story from people who read it because of the song. It was the first and last major thing any of them would accomplish. They were okay with that.

Within the next year, things truly fell apart between natural disasters and scarcity. As mentioned, Glen Dalton had a means of escape and now was the time to use it. He was riding in his private jet. Every so often, he would glance out the window, seeing the fires of retaliation both figuratively and literally speaking. It took a while, but even his most loyal fans turned on him in the final moments, not that it mattered.

On remote islands, he and others had something worked on, ships to be exact, paid for generously with government funding. Of course, that meant he’d have to rub elbows more often with people he didn’t care for. That was a small price to pay, though. When he arrived, others were also there. It wouldn’t be long before the launch would commence.

Elsewhere, it wouldn’t be long before the rest of humanity would have to spend their final days. Most chose to do this with family and friends. Others, elected to have solitude. Mona and the others chose to spend their time left with each other and their families. They decided if they were going to go out anyway it may as well be on a happy note and so they gathered what little they possessed and threw a celebration.

The air was heavy with fumes as the rockets launched. Mona and the others were at Irene’s home, sitting together. Whatever differences divided people finally didn’t seem to matter.

“I don’t think it’ll be much longer,” Mona wheezed.

The end was a frightening thing and drugs helped. Among them was a bong which she took another hit from. She passed it to Carlo who lit it.

“People really enjoyed what we did,” Jerell smiled.

“Yeah, I just wish we could’ve done it sooner,” Irene replied.

“Better late than never,” Carlo said after blowing a cloud of smoke. “Still, it would’ve been nice if we had time to make something else. Can someone hand me the chips?”

With them were also snacks. The goal was to finish as much as they could.

“It’s a shame,” Carlo continued. “There’s a lot of places I wish I could’ve gone.”

“Jamaica?” Jerell suggested.

“That’s one. What about you?”

“I always wanted to see Japan.”

“Rome for me,” Irene interjected. “What about you, Mona?”

“The ocean.”

They were losing strength. In an effect similar to hypothermia, their minds were elsewhere. They passed away only hours later along with their families. Each one of them smiled as their imaginations made them experience their hearts’ desires. They were able to go happily. It would not be long until no living life would remain on the planet.

Glen Dalton and the other elites were in stasis as their ships were drifting through space. Before going into their slumbers, the ships connected to each other to form a moving city. It was powered through several means, mainly solar. Failing that, kinetic energy would also work for a while. The plan was to travel to an Earth-like planet and establish a new society. In order to manage everything, several AIs were created.

As tends to happen, however, things rarely go according to plan.

Author's Note: Finally, I'm able to get this next part out. I won't lie. This was a bit of a struggle to write, but the next part which hopefully should be the finale is where things will really pick up. Anyway, I'd you enjoyed this post, you can check out my links. Hello all, given the fact one of most common posts we seem to get on the subreddit is tips/advice for coming to Nats Park either from Visiting Fans or First Times. I thought it would be a good idea to get a decent size run-down of all the things new and "old" this season at Nats Park and the surrounding area to help ensure a good experience by all (If I forgot something please comment, my brain can only hold so much Nats Park knowledge).

2023.05.27 06:37 topiary566 Rutgers (non-definitive kinda comprehensive) Organic Chemistry Guide

So I just wanted to make this guide for dealing with orgo because I just finished it and I'm procrastinating starting my MCAT studying. There are a lot of details and stuff in this, but if you want just skip to the TLDR.
Just some background, but I got a B+ in orgo 1 and an A (barely) in orgo 2. I'm no orgo genius by any metrics or whatever but I was just trying to scrape by with a high GPA while taking 18 and 20 credits.
There is also another orgo study guide on this subreddit here which is really good, and I would heavily recommend reading it too. Nothing but respect for him/her, but the OP seems to enjoy orgo a bit too much so I just wanted to make a more pessimistic and cynical post because I'm pretty ambivalent towards the class and most people are like that as well.
Structure of Class
The class is 100 percent exams. There are no other points involved in your grade and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise they are lying or trying to make money. There were 3 midterms and a final each semester so I will refer to them as exams 1,2,3,4,5,6 and final 1 and 2. I honestly thought orgo 1 and 2 were completely equal in difficulty but orgo 2 is more memorization and pattern recognition based while orgo 1 is more conceptual. Also, the third exam each semester is easier normally because you cover 3 chapters of material instead of 4.
I just wanted to have a quick ranking of the exam difficulties to give some idea because I felt like it would have been useful for me. For example I was kinda dejected after exam 2 in orgo 1 so I just kind of gave up on getting an A but I probably could have if I studied harder (I was like 12 points out of 500 off). These are based off of my experiences and some general consensus stuff as well.
Orgo 1: exam 2 > final > exam 1= exam 3. Exam 2 was by far the hardest and I think the hardest between both classes. The final was pretty fair (all MC) and exam 1 and 3 were about equal depending on your strengths and weaknesses. You can make back a lot of points on exam 3 and the final so if you're a bit below passing or below the grade you want then don't give up and don't settle for the lower grade because you can bring it up.
Orgo 2: exam 1> exam 2 > exam 3 > final. This one is a bit bias because I fractured my ankle over winter break so I was struggling the first month of the semester lol (Richardson Apts have no handicap accommodations). Exam 1 and 2 could have been a toss up but exam 3 was pretty easy and the final was easy in my opinion because it was the standardized ACS exam. The opinions on the final were mixed, but I will go into more detail later.
Cutoffs:
These are out of 500 points so divide by 500 to get a percent grade. These are also subject to change because it's graded on a curve so don't treat it as gospel, but they should be roughly the same. Don't bother trying to guess that curve and whatever because there is way too much discussion in the groupme analyzing cutoffs and just spend that time studying.
Orgo 1: A: 400 B+: 350 B: 300 C+: 250 C: 200 D: 150 F: < 150
Orgo 2: A: 400 B+: 346 B: 292 C+: 248 C: 194 D: 140 F: < 140
Test by Test Breakdown
This probably won't really mean anything until you take the class but here it is. This is mostly what I could have done better and what I think I did well but here it goes.
Exam 1: Understanding based. Get a model kit it really helps with this exam. Also, I would really recommend the Khan Academy videos for this unit they were really good. Get really comfortable with visualizing things in 3d space and using your model kit to understand. Also, get comfortable with nomenclature and practice a lot. There won't be too many questions directly about nomenclature but be comfortable with it. The material is very different from the rest of the class so be careful not to let it set a precedent for study methods and stuff because I tried studying for exam 2 the same way as exam 1 and got messed up a bit.
Exam 2: Memorization heavy. Make flashcards for all the reactions ASAP and memorize them. Also memorize all of the rules for substitution and elimination reactions and get very comfortable with them. This unit will be useless after this exam but just keep your flashcards handy and memorized for the final exams.
Exam 3: Mechanism heavy. I honestly don't remember this one too well but I remember that it was easy. The free radicals are a bit confusing initially but they aren't too bad. I would memorize the mechanisms first and then start grinding textbook problems.
Final 1: Make flashcards and have all the reactions memorized. Get good with stereochem and assigning configurations and stuff because you don't want to be scratching your head while assigning RS configuration for too long and it's better to get faster. The final was all MC so it wasn't bad because of this but MC does make things inherently more memorization based.
Exam 4: All memorization and pattern recognition. If you memorize everything you will be good after doing a good amount of practice problems. Treat this exam as if you are a robot.
Exam 5: Mechanism/understanding heavy. This is when mechanisms and reactions truly start to get ugly. Get comfortable with the mechanisms and practice a lot. I honestly don't remember much from this unit because I kind of dumped the information from my brain after but just practice.
Exam 6: I personally thought this was the easiest exam even though it wasn't my highest score. This was very pattern recognition heavy imo but it was pretty easy to tell what a lot of reactants would do based on what they were made of.
Final 2: This was an ACS standardized orgo exam so I thought it was much easier than the Rutgers stuff. It brought my grade from a 72 to an 82 and I scored a 192/200 somehow so that was clutch. The grading is weird but it's kinda based on percentiles and not raw score which helps. You can look up the percentiles online and then they will give you a number grade based on percentile and then adjust the grades based on the curve. There were a ton of people analyzing it before the final, but don't bother you won't be able to figure anything out. GET THE NEWEST PREP BOOK NO EXCUSES (unless you really can't afford it but I might try to scan and upload it to libgen idk how tho). It's pretty pay to win and the school gives you absolutely no help or review. I didn't think I would need one but my roomate managed to give me his old copy a few days before the final which saved my ass. This exam was very robotic and memorization heavy but if you have the prep book you should be fine. Also get very very familiar again with assigning configuration and with stereochem. Also there are a lot of fischer, sawhorse, and newman projections. You haven't really touched it in a long time, but it's pretty emphasized. Just go through all the practice problems and make flashcards/review the questions you had trouble with. A ton of people complained about this exam in the groupme but I think it's because they didn't have the review book tbh. It is completely different from Rutgers orgo and will really surprise you if you try to study from the slides or from your class notes. Become a robot for this exam.
Balance of Memorization
So this is a pretty weird subject because a lot of people say it's all memorization and others say it is all about understanding, but I thought it was very in the middle. I'm majoring in biomath so my pattern recognition and thinking on my feet skills are really good, but I'm not as good at memorizing so I came in thinking I could just understand how everything works because that's what everyone advises. However, this is not really true and you WILL need to memorize. The professor made an analogy day 1 saying that orgo is like learning a new language and you need to truly understand to become fluent rather than just memorizing vocabulary. While that analogy makes sense, it's kind of skipping the fact that you need to memorize hundreds of words to be proficient in a language. You need to memorize period. This isn't to say that understanding isn't important because it will save you tons of time and make things less miserable and robotic.
There is a time where you will want to understand every step of a reaction mechanism but there are also times when you will struggle for 15 minutes to understand a complicated step and you might as well just memorize what it does. Also there are a lot of trends and different conditions for reactions that I think are honestly better off just memorizing rather than understanding because you will spend so much mental effort scratching your head and thinking logically while you could just memorize that protic solvents favor elimination reaction (exam 2) or something which saves time and effort on the exam. You'll never need to write a paragraph explaining why something works so just being kind of familiar is enough most of the time. So overall I would say it's around 50/50 and just find the balance that works with you for each particular exam and don't be opposed to either because you will want to memorize and understand stuff. This section might seem kind of obvious but I came in with the mentality that I will not memorize a single thing and understand everything and other people are probably coming in thinking they need to memorize everything but it's in the middle somewhere.
Attending Lecture
I think I attended like 3 or 4 lectures and like 2 recitations over the course of orgo 1 and 2 and I had to dip from one of them halfway through because my cat threw up and I was worried about her. I'm personally very bad at learning from speeches and stuff and that applies not just to lectures but sermons and stuff as well so it's really just personal preference. If you learn well in lecture then you should attend for sure and I would tell anyone going into orgo to attend lecture unless they are learning nothing. Don't feel pressured to either attend lecture every time if you're getting nothing out of it but don't feel like you don't need to attend either. Find what works best for you. For me, I felt spending the 2 hours it would take to be in lecture and get to the building and all that stuff studying I would have gotten a lot more done. The main advantage of lecture is how it spreads things out because exams come and go really fast and you don't get much time between. Also this would probably seem obvious, but you need to do practice outside of lecture. You need to do practice problems and stuff but more about this in the next section.
How to Study
I would heavily recommend doing active recall for orgo. Look into it more, but basically it revolved around making a bunch of questions based on the material and reviewing them. The way I applied it to the class and would recommend doing is to go through the slides before you cover the material and just make questions based on what you see. This should take around an hour per chapter and you shouldn't know what anything means really but just make questions on what seems important or for individual reaction mechanisms and stuff. Then, answer these questions for the first time either by going through the slides or going to lecture/recitation and answering them as your form of note-taking. This is really good if you go to recitations or office hours because then you have a bunch of questions to ask the TA locked and loaded. Review for the exams by going through the questions and then going practice questions from the textbook. Also, if there are a lot of mechanisms or things to memorize I would make flashcards especially for exam 2, 4, 5, and final 1. Reading through the textbook or reading through outlines/slides is a very inefficient way of studying because you really aren't using your brain at all and it's important to be more active when reviewing. It takes more energy and isn't as easy, but that's the point because you will get like 3 times the amount of review done in the same amount of time (source: trust me bro). This seems like a lot of work, but yea orgo hard.
You need to practice to do well in this class. You can get through gen chem or gen bio just by learning material and reading your outlines, but that won't fly in orgo. I would recommend doing every textbook problem and then going through the practice test before each exam. This is much easier said than done because there are a crap ton of textbook problems, but this is very important because this class is very heavy on edge cases and pattern recognition so it would help to make mistakes on the practice problems rather than on the exam. Most classes will put like 1 or 2 edge cases in an exam to try and mix you up but I feel like up to half of the questions on orgo exams were edge cases and weird cases and other kids agreed with me also.
Going into the Class
When I was going into the class, I was scrambling to get a head start in some way by watching some videos or something. If you want something that will help, do something else productive with your time because studying orgo doesn't really do much for you and it won't be ass effective until the fire is lit under your ass. Try to line up a job or volunteer position or something before the summer ends and try to build your resume. This is a very pump and dump class from my experience. It was about how fast I could shove information into my brain before an exam and how quickly I could forget it so I had room in my brain for crap that I actually care about like memories with friends or actual experiences. There have been times in my college experience where I reflected over the last week and realized that I've made no memories because it was all just filled with studying. I don't need this stuff taking up room in my brain it won't really help me in the future and MCAT orgo is much much easier so that's not really an excuse to learn orgo either.
If you're pre-med I would really recommend applying for some scribe or medical assistant positions or emailing doctors for shadowing. On the other hand, you could email professors to check out their labs and ask for research rather than focusing on orgo going into the school year. This will be a lot more useful in the long run because you are learning stuff that actually matters. You only need one yes from a professor or doctor to get a position which will pay dividends in the future. Coming from someone with a 3.9 GPA and 122 completed credits after my sophomore year (46 AP credits and way too much front-loading), taking classes and getting A's does not really build character and should not be your source of pride or self-worth. I know that sounds like I'm casually inserting a flex on a reddit post, but that's not the point I'm making. When I'm in an interview or something nobody really cares about it and it is not something I will emphasize because bragging and taking pride in good grades is for losers. I probably gained more shadowing for 2 weeks last summer than I did in all of orgo because now I have connections with the doctors there and potential mentorship/job opportunities which mean a lot more than getting a good grade in a class. Tbh I'm just getting money money's worth because taking more credits doesn't cost more and I'm the type of guy who will ask for extra of every topping at Chipotle even if it tastes bad lol.
This isn't to say that GPA isn't important because you need a high GPA as a prerequisite, but your other experiences as well as the character you build from them is much more useful in the long run. This isn't to say that you shouldn't celebrate your successes and be happy for yourself when you do well on an exam. You worked hard studying and you should reward yourself. My main point for this tangent is that getting a bad grade on an orgo exam isn't the end of the world and it's not a sign from God that you shouldn't be a doctor. On the other hand getting a good grade only means you're good at studying for organic chemistry exams so don't be that asshole in the groupme bragging that he got an 88 without studying because it's cringe and nobody cares other than the people who failed that you are dragging down to feed your pride.
Mental Game
This is a very mentally draining and isolating class. There will be people breaking down in the groupme and stuff. I never did study groups, but I had a guy that I randomly bumped into that I would meet up with the day of the exam to study and that helped a lot lol. You don't want to face orgo alone because it is a very uninspiring class. Remember that orgo doesn't define anything about your character or your intelligence and it is purely a weed out class meaning that it is just a measure of how much you want to become a doctor or whatever you're pursuing. It will be frustrating and annoying at times, but that is okay because everyone else is frustrated and annoyed as well and you just gotta lock in an work hard to get through it.
Also, being positive is very important. When it comes to academics and school in general, you want to be as happy and positive as physically possible that you have the OPPORTUNITY to learn what you are learning. You aren't forced to memorize 30 reaction mechanisms for this orgo exam, but it is an OPPORTUNITY which you should be GRATEFUL and HAPPY to learn about. I say that sarcastically, but that is how you should approach studying. From personal experiences and from seeing my friends, only bad things come out of being sad and stressed over school. While stress is natural you should never let it take control of you and carry on with a smile (this strictly applies to school work, if you are actually depressed or something coping by being happy or smiling might not be the answer).
Make sure to keep your hobbies and extracurriculars and passions intact. If you're religious, make sure to keep doing that also because I've seen people losing their connection with God over orgo and it makes me very sad to see school become an idol in people's lives. Also, make sure you keep your physical health intact. Work out/play sports, eat well, drink water, and sleep enough. I've read some studies and surprisingly physical health isn't correlated to academic performance, but it's also correlated to every other positive aspect in your life so do it. Your health will naturally take a hit before big exams, but make sure to bounce back because you don't want to spiral downwards.
Closing Thoughts
So yea this post ran a lot longer than expected, but I really don't want to be self-studying biochem from my MCAT books lol. I got a lot deeper than I initially anticipated while writing my outline but I feel like I learned a lot going through orgo in some ways to be honest. This kind of contradicts what I said before, but I feel like the stress and conflict from the class did build my character in ways. Granted I would much rather have built that character in a clinic or at least in a hard genetics or anatomy weed-out rather than a topic I will never use again after MCATs, I still think these weed-outs are a necessary evil. It's not about weeding out people who aren't good enough, but really it's about growth. Although my post doesn't sound like it, I'm genuinely grateful for going through orgo in hindsight and I have no regrets or bad-will associated with it even though I whine a lot.
If you need advise or anything feel free to comment or dm me. If you have stuff to add or resources that helped you (I didn't use many resources I learned from slides and textbook) then drop them in the comments as well. Wish everyone luck!
TLDR
Orgo is hard. Find a balance of memorizing and understanding for each exam and do both. Get an ACS book for the orgo 2 final (please). Go to lecture unless it really doesn't help you. Look into active recall and apply it to the class. Don't let orgo define your life or career because other experiences are much more important for building character. Be positive and open minded going into orgo because having a bad attitude will only make things worse and nobody cares about your bad attitude. Maintain other (physical, mental, spiritual, financial, etc) parts of your wellness besides just academic performance because frankly they matter more. Maintain friendships and extracurriculars and get meaning out of college. Don't be the guy bragging about his grades in groupme it's so cringe please no.

What alternative veggies have you used? Were they good or bad?
Fresh batch today - cavalo nero, chicory, carrot, leftover scotch bonnets, chipotle paste, ginger, garlic, oyster sauce, 2.5% salt.
Only ever "bad" ingredient - parsnip (too tough) Disappointing ingredient - French breakfast radishes Surprise good ingredient - runner beans

2023.05.22 07:33 kianworld Jungle Jim's recommendations?

Planning on taking a trip over to Jungle Jim's in Ohio sooner or later. And a major reason I'm wanting to go there is because of the hot sauce section. It's massive. I'm used to just hot sauces that I can easily find at Kroger and Walmart, along with whatever TJ Maxx randomly stocks, so I don't know what else I'm missing out on.
Here's what I'm considering getting already:
idk. I don't wanna go there just to get some super basic/major brand stuff. Prefer flavor over heat, though I'd love to try some more super hots (got Bravado Aka Miso, hottest sauce I have by far). Favorites include Tabasco Chipotle, El Yucateco XXXtra Hot, Los Calientes, Marie Sharp's Habanero, Secret Aardvark, but again, willing to try something new.

2023.05.19 03:07 lampposttt How much would you pay for a breakfast burrito from a local coffee shop?

Hi Reddit LA! I need your help determining market pricing for a small local business - vote here!
I'm going to start selling breakfast burritos at a small coffee shop here in LA that traditionally has only served pastries and cold sandwiches due to lack of a full kitchen. The burritos are pretty darn yummy and definitely filling, and have a subtly spicy chipotle crema sauce on the side, but they won't be made in-house; rather we have a small commercial kitchen that we'll be working with where the burritos will be delivered 2-3x per week and re-heated to order.
The Burritos are hand made locally with Vital Farms pasture raised cheesy scrambled eggs, homemade maple-coffee bacon, roasted potatoes and onions, and tomatillo salsa with a chipotle crema sauce on the side.
Click here to vote in the strawpoll?, which would really help a lo! Thanks!!

2023.05.18 03:51 troopnow If you own Chipotle stock, make sure to vote on Chipotle's commitment to workers' rights before their annual meeting on May 25th ✊

https://preview.redd.it/7y4l71j1xh0b1.png?width=1210&format=png&auto=webp&s=a3bc02f8a4380451cbd834d5e0721cacb660760c
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander filed a shareholder proposal urging Chipotle to make a formal commitment to not interfere with or undermine its workers’ rights to form a union and collectively bargain. Shareholders will vote on the proposal at the company’s annual meeting on May 25. Search your email for an message from your brokerage with instructions on how to vote.
Lander says that Chipotle must “catch up” to other large companies when it comes to recognizing workers’ rights. The company recently settled a $20 million New York City lawsuit alleging violations of worker protection laws (scheduling violations, in particular), and a suit with the National Labor Relations Board over closing a Maine store after employees there tried to unionize. The NLRB has investigated Chipotle for over a dozen more allegations of retaliatory firings and anti-union activity.
Chipotle admits no wrongdoing in Maine and claims its current code of ethics is sufficient. Read more about Lander’s proposal here.
Read the full coverage of this proposal on Troop and see what other shareholders think ahead of Chipotle's AGM.

2023.05.18 00:04 The__Moo Advice: Job Opportunities in EG

I need advice and help from my Elk Grove community.
My 16 year old is having a hard time finding a job in Elk Grove. She's applying to anywhere and everywhere via online company websites. She doesn't hear back, she calls and doesn't hear back. We are going to try going in person to fill out applications, but most places say go online.
This would be her first job, so maybe it's because of a lack of work experience. She has all her volunteer experience on her resume.
Anybody have any hints or advice for her? (She doesn't know I'm asking Reddit lol)
UPDATE: Thank you everyone, she got hired on the spot today at an interview we went in person to follow up on. She was in tears she's so happy! I did warn her, since folks here said... Chipotle is rough, yes it's Chipotle. Thank you again Elk Grove community!!! 💜

2023.05.16 05:26 Sabbatai New Guy Took Rice Container Out of Warmer, Placed it On My Tortilla, How Screwed Am I?

I went and got two burritos today. One was for someone else. When the dude went to go make mine, the white rice bin was empty, so he took it out to replace it with one that was full, sitting behind him on a table.
Only, when he took it out, he sat it directly on my tortilla. I didn't really think too much about it until I got done eating my burrito. I don't know why I didn't think about it, or ask him for a new tortilla. I just didn't.
After I ate, I started thinking about the fact that I start training for a new project tomorrow, and thought "I hope I wake up feeling good tomorrow", and began considering all the things I shouldn't do in order to try to ensure that happens. "Eating Chipotle" doesn't make me sick like everyone on Reddit seems to say it does to them. But I suddenly remembered him putting the bin on my tortilla, and as I am typing this, my stomach is gurgling quite a bit...

2023.05.11 20:23 boutell New US CCS chargers report for April 2023

Here are all of the new US CCS (Level 3 fast-charging) stations that rolled out in April 2023, according to the Department of Energy. These chargers are suitable for most new EVs on the market, except for:
  1. Tesla drivers who haven't bought the official CCS adapter yet. Certain older Teslas need additional work done to accept the adapter.
  2. Leaf owners like me, and some owners of older cars that also use CHAdeMO. If you drive a Leaf, or an older CHAdeMO car, see my matching post in leaf.
Some of these chargepoints will be "refreshes," e.g. the provider replaced them with faster chargers etc. Some may be incorrect. This report is only as good as the Alternative Fuels Data Center data.
There were 171 CCS charge points added or refreshed in April 2023, which is up from 159 in March. For comparison, there were only 100 new CCS charge points in April 2022. Things are speeding up.
"What about CCS charging at Tesla superchargers?" Tesla is in the process of rolling out their "magic dock" for non-Tesla cars in certain locations. I assume they will start to include this in their reporting to the Alternative Fuels Data Center soon. When they do it should be reflected here.
If you'd like to know about new chargers along your routes right away, or just prefer not to check this list monthly when new openings are rare in your area, I've set up a free service that provides email notifications as soon as they open. You can sign up at evpov.com. Or not! I don't really have a business plan here, I built it to help EV owners like myself.
To streamline this post, multi-chargepoint locations are listed with the number of chargepoints first, so that's why the post is shorter than in previous months.
