2023.06.04 16:54 laysthedischargepipe Am I being ghosted after a new job offer?

Hello everyone. I'm here to ask for some advice.
Background: I've been with my company (large 1500ish employee non profit in a niche medical industry. US based) for 18 years.
In Match 2022 I went back to school to finish my Bachelor's degree (I got my Associates 20 years ago) as my organization has repeatedly stated that without the Degree I wouldn't climb any further. I received a promotion in February 2023 (salary from 135k to 155k) to Associate Director of a team of people doing much of the same work I'd been doing as a manager (but for the whole company now instead of just one area off the company).
New job is fine and the work I want to do. My team is great. The VP of the department is newish (hired Jun 2022) with the organization (company tends to keep some very long term employees so a year is not very long tenure). VP is making some changes and waves as expected. After the first few months, things are progressing okay and the new Assoc. Director position is going well. I was planning on evaluating new career options once I finished my degree since all comparable positions require the degree plus the experience I already have. Of note. As of 5/31 I've officially graduated with my BS in Business.
Situation: I received a call (in early April) from a former employee of mine who over 5 years ago moved across the country for a new job). He said his organization (he is currently a director in the same niche industry as my background) was looking for upper management (VP/Director level) in the functional area where I was recently promoted. He asked if he could give my name to the CEO. I said yes.
CEO called that day. We had a great conversation where he asked me to send my resume for review and that he'd be in contact. Received a call a few days later from CFO to schedule the interview. I fly across the country the second week of May.
Interview went well. New company is privatlely owned and for profit. Company has great 3 year growth and more growth projected. It is a smaller organization now with aggressive hiring plans to support the growth projections. We discuss the company and the VP/Director opportunity. I am interested. I am forthright about my existing salary (155k) and explain that to move across the country they offer would need to be higher than my existing. Benefits package is comparable.
I receive an offer for a Director position at (160k +20k relo bonus) which I seriously considered and ultimately politely declined. New offer was not a significant salary increase and would require relocating away from my family (who would stay in the home we bought in 2019 in our home state and my partner and I would rent in new state). The driver for the decline was both the position and money (With finishing my degree I will likely get Director in current company soon with a raise that would take me over the 160k offer). It is very exciting to think about moving and the new job, but I decided to decline. (Also of note- I did not mention any of this too current boss/company).
About a week later I received a counter from new company of VP/200k and they send the offer letter. I speak to the HR guy about the drug screening they do in order to inquire about their THC testing rules. I live in a recreationally legal state, new job is in a recreationally legal state, I live with 2 medical cannabis patients and sometimes partake. I am not concerned about passing with potentially low levels in my system. HR guy says THC is exclusionary for technical safety positions but discretionary by the company for management (no further clarification provided). We discussed a 7/3 or 7/10 start date to allow for me to give notice, find an apartment and move across the country but start date would depend on finalizing onboarding testing, background check etc.
That night (5/23) I sent the signed offer letter accepting the position.
And have not heard anything back from the company since. I sent a follow up email on 5/25 clarifying that I'd like to agree on a tentative start date.
I understand that this was over a holiday weekend, but at over 7 business days since sending signed letter, I am feeling ghosted. I've had some informal texts with the former employee who initially called me. The HR guy was out last week but now this week, back in the office as of Thursday 6/1. I called the HR guy Friday, received front desk who said HR guy was unavailable and that he'd get back to me. And has not.
So... that is my Schrodinger's Job Offer.
My partner and I are flying out Thursday this week to look at apartments... or have a little vacation if this has indeed fallen through...
Advice?
I do love my current job. But a VP opportunity at that salary is too good to pass up and say no. I feel like not taking the chance would be a failure. BUT in the event of worst case scenario and the new company is flaking.. I still have and love my job.
I am considering having a sit down with my Director to let her know off the situation and that I'm considering the offer. Is that a good idea?
Help please! Thank you!!
tldr: Exciting job offer received with drug test required. Formally discussed THC in drug tests with new Haccepted terms,, signed/accepted/returned offer letter and now have been ghosted without contact or receiving any onboarding info. Help please!

2023.06.04 16:49 billybob70164 I’m not sure what kind of person I am

No idea if it belongs here so…
Growing up, I(M) read books for hours, played video games, loved staying at home. I was the complete opposite of my family who loved to travel, play sports, do things outside. My little brother Stephen was their favorite because he absolutely loved those things. His favorite sports were American football and base ball. My little sister Morgan was next because while she loved sports and outdoorsy stuff, she didn’t like it as much as our brother. So it was always what he wanted to do when we went out. My family would spend tons of money on Stephen because he was always Playing sports. We had to travel a lot so it was always hotel rooms and eating out and when I wanted to do something that I thought we could all enjoy, it was always “let’s do that next week” but when next week came, it was always “we are tired, maybe next time” so after a year or two of getting my hopes up and then crushed, I stopped asking to do stuff with them. They always made me go with them despite the fact that I absolutely didn’t like it. It got worse when my parents signed me up for local sports teams and would then get mad at me for not liking it. So I learned to not say anything, and I kept quiet and did what they wanted. When I got older, I was able to put my foot down a bit and told them I will no longer be playing sports, though looking back, I was probably too old anyway. Anyway, I get to high school and I would spend a lot of time in the school library reading. I feel a little more comfortable and I meet back up with a old friend Kalie(F) that moved away back in elementary school. Well we start dating probably around 9th or 10th and she introduces me to my future fiancé Leah(F). Well it turns out that Kalie fucking cheats on me with her cousin and honestly I’m a little hurt but also kinda relieved. Looking back, I don’t think I ever really liked Kalie like that and as a 13-15 year old boy, I didn’t know how to bring it up so I didn’t say anything and just tried making her happy. Leah finds out and tells Kalie to either break up with me or she’d tell me. So Kalie breaks up with me and I don’t find out until later from Leah. According to Leah, I was Kalies fall back guy. If something happened to her little side piece, she’s come back to me like nothing happened. So I’m a little depressed but honestly not that much. Sometime later, Leah and I start dating and we start learning about each other. I eventually meet her family and her grandparents, especially her grandma, loves me lol. Her dad was and still is an ass but we don’t really see him except for on holidays.
Anyway, Leah helps me feel like more of myself. But then we graduate and she goes to college 2 hours away and I got to one closer to home so we don’t see each other as often. Two years go by and I go to her college and we rent a place together and it’s absolutely amazing. I don’t have to worry about my family or someone making me do something I don’t want anymore. Well two years after that, she graduates and we stay in our little appartement for a few font ha while we both look for jobs. She applies to a Fortune 500 company and she tells me about it. She tells me that we would have to move to Minnesota and live in the city and I’m super excited for it. She makes it to the final part of the interview but doesn’t get the job. We both get sad about the missed opportunity but we move on. Eventually, we can’t afford to stay where we are, but my family offers us a little shed behind their house that we clean up and make into a living space. Well we both still don’t have jobs but Leah’s grandma gets her in touch with some people at the library in the near city. Leah graduated with a “interdisciplinary studies” degree with her areas of concentration being computer science, technical writing, and game design. The IT person at the library passed away and Leah gets the job. At that point, I’m still job hunting and my father offers me a way to make money. He runs a small flooring business and he tells me to come work with him until I find a job. Thankfully Leah and I don’t have to pay rent so we can save. Anyway, I’m not really a construction type of guy but I suck it up and go work with my father until I get a part time job and that same library as Leah. There are somewhere around 12 libraries in our parish and when someone calls out sick, I take over on top of my regular hours. Well, because I’m part time, I don’t work everyday which isn’t good enough for my family so father tells me to go work with him while I’m not at the library and I say sure. Well after 2-3 months, father and mother aren’t happy anymore with that arrangement. They want me to have a steady full time job so that I can make the most amount of money possible at the expense of my happiness. So they get me an interview with a friend of theirs that works at a cable and internet company. At first, I think it’s lot that bad but then I start do more and more physical work and while I can handle some, this is a little too much for me. I don’t want to do this for the rest of my life so I look for other jobs. I have no idea what my family is going to say.
And through all this time, I have no idea what kind of person I am. I like dirty jokes and so does my brother and I tried to tell him some but it’s just kinda awkward between us and I know my family loves me but sometimes I just feel like I need to get away from everything. Like I need a break from life to just relax but thats not exactly possible so I have to suck it up and move on. I feel like I have no idea how to talk to my family. I feel like I’m always about to say something wrong. I feel like they are always about to criticize me for what I say because they have before.
And I’m somewhat jealous of my brother because he has a rich fiancé. She pays for so much of his stuff. He has a job yes and it doesn’t pay that bad but she’s always taking him on cruises and vacations and why does he get to experience that stuff when it was always him that got so much. I’m jealous that my parents loves him more. I’m jealous that my parents always spent more time with him and my sister. I’m jealous of how close they are. But I’m hurt that it way almost always about my siblings and what they wanted.
I love my fiancé with all my heart and I wouldn’t change a thing about her. She helped me discover things about myself that I never would have on my own or with my family. She’s my soulmate and I look forward to having kids with her, growing old with her. I want to kiss her and hug her and never let go and I always hope she feels the same way. But there’s always that little voice of jealousy in the back of my mind that I try to ignore but sometimes I just can’t.
Anyway, I think I’m just rambling now but I’ve been holding that in for a long time and while I don’t feel lighter or anything, it does feel nice to finally get that off my chest.

2023.06.04 16:46 CJOAF Report blues

Anyone else struggling with reports? I’m a second year ECT with a class of 34. Last year I had 27 by the end of the year (a few last minute leavers) and that extra 7 children seems to be making a huge difference.
I’ve spent every day this half term working from 9:30am til 7:00pm writing reports, except for one day that I spent lesson planning. I have written nearly 30 000 words already, I’ve completed 16 reports and I’ve still got 18 left. They’re due Wednesday and I haven’t had any rest and recuperation at all this half term. I had a bit of a breakdown on SLT before the holidays and they said “let’s talk later once you’ve had a chance to rest and recover in the holidays.” Hah!
No real point to this post, just a rant really. I wish I could have taken some time for me, but I guess that will have to wait until the summer. Oh, except I’ll probably be moving classrooms and prep for a new class which will take up a good week or two of the holidays, if I’m lucky. Just getting irritated by the “but the holidays..” comment from every layman who just doesn’t see it.

2023.06.04 16:44 Bumblebee_593 AITA for telling my boyfriend that if he wants his brother in our holidays, he should pay it himself?

I'm (29,F) and my boyfriend (33, M) are together for 7 years. We live in France and have a son. My boyfriend isn't the best with money and is always pushing important things to a limit. He's looking to always get the cheapest things and holidays and what else. But out of that he spends money on unnecessary things, buys stuff we don't really need, goes out to drink and pays for others. Because of that, we don't have so much money but would like to go to holidays at the sea this year.
Now that the holiday season is coming closer, we wanted to book some holidays at a camping place in the south of France. His brother and parents are living close to the sea. We aren't. I asked him, if he wants to combine the holidays with his parents. He said he'll ask, but never did. I have 3 weeks off work and he has 2 weeks off. I thought, if his parents don't want to come with us to the sea, we could meet up for a week in the mountains or at their place. Now he never communicated that to his parents. Today I asked him to finally talk about holidays and plan things! I don't want it to be last minute, because in the end we will have to pay more. While we looked together for things, he told me, that we could have his brother over one night. I'm not the biggest fan of his brother, there are a lot back story to this. Now my face said it all, and he was straight on pissed at me to not want his brother there. I left the situation, because I needed to finish the laundry. He came and asked me why I didn't want his brother there. And that there's enough place for him to sleep one night. And he could take his two daughters with him. First at all, we pay for 3 people. Second there's definitely not enough place for 3 more in the little camping house. And third I don't want to have fkn problems on my holidays. That's the only holidays which I am not at home. And as I know from the past, there were some problems when we took his brother with us. On top of that I am not really thrilled, that he doesn't want his brother to pay anything, "because we already would have paid all". And I am not sure if that could us in trouble at the camping side. So I told him, that if he wants his brother there, he should pay the night for him and his dauthers. Like that we won't get in trouble. He was immediately pissed at me and said something around the line "so this is how family works for you". If it would be one of my siblings, I would have asked them the same, especially because of our current situation. So AITA for telling my boyfriend, if he wants his brother on our holidays, that he should pay it himself?

2023.06.04 16:33 Resorazzi Essential Checklist for Traveling to a New Destination Outside of the United States

Hey Travel community! For all of our international travelers this summer, we wanted to provide you with an essential checklist to help you stay organized and make the most of your adventure.
  1. Check Passport Validity and Obtain Necessary Visas: Before traveling, ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your intended return date. Check the visa requirements for your destination and apply for any necessary visas well in advance. Some countries offer visa-on-arrival options, while others require pre-approval, so familiarize yourself with the specific entry requirements of your chosen destination.
  2. Research and Plan Your Itinerary: Thoroughly research your destination to understand its customs, traditions, local laws, and attractions. Create a detailed itinerary that includes must-visit sites, cultural experiences, and off-the-beaten-path gems. Consider factors like weather, local festivals, and public holidays to make the most of your time. However, allow for flexibility in your schedule to accommodate unexpected discoveries or changes.
  3. Check Health and Vaccination Requirements: Visit a travel clinic or consult your healthcare provider to understand the specific health precautions and vaccination requirements for your destination. Ensure that you are up to date on routine vaccinations and receive any necessary travel-specific vaccinations. Research potential health risks such as mosquito-borne diseases or food and water safety precautions, and pack a basic first aid kit for emergencies.
  4. Notify Your Bank and Set Up International Communication: Inform your bank and credit card companies about your travel plans to avoid any disruptions to your financial transactions. Inquire about international transaction fees and consider carrying a mix of cash, credit cards, and a backup card. Additionally, research and set up reliable international communication options such as obtaining a local SIM card or activating an international roaming plan for your mobile phone.
  5. Secure Travel Insurance: Protect yourself against unforeseen events by purchasing travel insurance that covers medical emergencies, trip cancellations, lost luggage, and other potential risks. Carefully review the policy to understand the coverage and exclusions. Keep a copy of your insurance policy, emergency contact numbers, and important travel documents in both digital and physical formats.
  6. Pack Smart and Prepare Travel Essentials: Create a packing list specific to your destination, considering the weather, activities, and cultural norms. Pack versatile clothing, comfortable shoes, and essential toiletries. Don't forget adapters or converters for electronic devices, as electrical outlets may differ in your destination. Carry photocopies or digital copies of important documents like passports, visas, and itineraries.
  7. Learn Basic Local Phrases and Cultural Etiquette: Familiarize yourself with a few basic phrases in the local language to help you communicate and show respect to the local culture. Research cultural norms, etiquette, and any specific customs or traditions to ensure you engage with locals appropriately. Respect dress codes for religious or cultural sites and be mindful of local customs, particularly regarding greetings, gestures, and dining etiquette.

2023.06.04 16:33 artificial_doctor My brother is on a working holiday in Albania and has rescued two stray puppies who were hit by a car and needs to get them homed before then end of the month. Can anyone in Europe/UK help us facilitate this or offer suggestions for organisations who could help?

As mentioned in the title, my brother is on a working holiday in Albania and is only there until the end of the month. He and his partner found two stray puppies who were hit by a car and he got them to a vet in Greece, and then took care of them again in Albania. He wants to get them homed but every place he contacts is either over capacity or doesn't speak English and can't help him.
Can anyone local in Europe/UK help us get these puppies homed or put us in touch with organisations who could help?
Both pups are fully healed up, have all their shots etc, and he's willing to help financially to get them wherever they need to go, but we just need help with facilitating all of this.
Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!

2023.06.04 16:25 coacoanutbenjamn Taking a look at the Bucks' cap situation

Hello friends, today I thought it would be fun to take a look at the Milwaukee Bucks' cap sheet and make some general observations about what to expect from them this offseason and moving forward. It's another big offseason for them as they no doubt are looking to improve their core, or at the least keep it together for another run. Let's see what that might look like.
Here is the Bucks' cap sheet heading into the 2023 offseason:
PLAYER 2023-2024 2024-2025 2025-2026
Giannis Antetokounmpo $45,640,084 $48,787,676 $51,935,268
Khris Middleton $40,396,552
Jrue Holiday $36,861,707 $39,403,893
Bobby Portis $11,710,818 $12,578,286
Pat Connaughton $9,423,869 $9,423,869 $9,423,869
Grayson Allen $8,925,000
MarJon Beauchamp $2,609,400 $2,733,720 $4,781,276
Jevon carter $2,239,943
total $157,807,373 $112,927,444 $66,140,413
So as of right now, the Bucks have over 157.8 million committed to 8 players, including Middleton and Carter who have player options. With the luxury tax line expected to fall around 162 million, re-signing their key free agents could get very expensive for ownership if Middleton does opt into the final year of his contract. The new second apron and its dreaded penalties aren't set to kick in until next season so management doesn't have to worry about that for now, but of course that doesn't mean there isn't a limit put on them for what they can spend.
Milwaukee's free agents include Lopez, Ingles, Crowder, Thanasis, Matthews, Dragic, and Meyers Leonard. Lopez is obviously the priority, but he has value on the open market and will expect fair compensation if he does decide to return. The purpose of this exercise is not to debate the value of certain free agents and how much they'll get this summer, but we need to make some estimates. Let's say Lopez re-signs with the Bucks for 3 years, 15 million per season. In a scenario where Middleton and Carter pick up their 2023-2024 options, Milwaukee's total salary would be at around 10.8 million over the luxury cap this summer with 6 roster spots to fill out.
The ownership has shown willingness to pay luxury tax in the past, but there's always going to be a limit. And now there are new complications with paying the tax bill thanks to the new CBA. The already infamous 2nd apron is staring down teams, daring them not to cross. Furthermore, the Bucks are set to pay the luxury tax for a fourth consecutive season, triggering the repeater tax, which is even more brutal under the new CBA. The tax increase is reportedly not set to take effect until next year, but teams will still have to plan accordingly. And even without the increase, the repeater tax is pretty brutal as it stands.
Ownership dug into their pockets last season and paid out about 84 million in luxury tax after the team's payroll went almost 30 million over the line. However, if we assume that ownership is willing to pay the same amount this year, which isn't a given, then management can only allow the payroll to go about 24 million over the line for 2023-2024. While this is possible in a scenario where Middleton picks up his option and they pay Lopez around 15 million, it will involve a lot of veteran minimums and it's hard to see Milwaukee being able to use the taxpayer MLE to add a fresh face.
If management's desire is to bring back the core of the team and see how they perform under a new coaching staff, then I imagine they will look to negotiate a new deal with Middleton. Considering that he has 40.4 million sitting on the table, we shouldn't expect Khris to accept anything less than a large, long-term deal to replace it. Middleton opting out to sign a 4-year deal worth 28 million per year could make sense for both sides. From Khris's perspective it would be like adding 3 years for 72 million onto his current 40 million dollar deal, which is a fair extension for someone with his age and injury history. From the Bucks' perspective, they free up 12.4 million this season which they can use to comfortably re-sign Lopez and maybe even bring back Crowder or use the MLE in free agency.
Let's say that both Ingles and Thanasis re-sign to veteran minimum deals. Since it's probably an underpay, let's also say that Carter turns down his player option and re-signs for 2 years, 5 million annually. Here is what the Buck's cap sheet could *theoretically* look like after using the full taxpayer MLE, re-signing Middleton and Lopez, and filling out the roster with a couple vets and a rookie:
PLAYER 2023-2024 2024-2025 2025-2026 2026-2027
Giannis Antetokounmpo $45,640,084 $48,787,676 $51,935,268
Jrue Holiday $36,861,707 $39,403,893
Khris Middleton $28,000,000 $28,000,000 $28,000,000 $28,000,000
Brook Lopez $15,000,000 $15,000,000 $15,000,000
Bobby Portis $11,710,818 $12,578,286
Pat Connaughton $9,423,869 $9,423,869 $9,423,869
Grayson Allen $8,925,000
2023-2024 MLE $7,021,033
Jevon Carter $5,000,000 $5,000,000
MarJon Beauchamp $2,609,400 $2,733,720 $4,781,276
Joe Ingles $1,989,697
Thanasis Antetokounmpo $1,989,697
13th man $1,989,697
14th man $1,989,697
15th man $1,102,928 $1,774,998 $1,989,697
total $179,253,627
cap line $162,000,000
over $17,253,627
total tax to pay $53,327,915.34
Under this configuration, the Bucks can keep their choice of free agents and also utilize the taxpayer MLE to add a new player to help them on their mission to win another championship. Of course, I don't expect their front office to end up with this cap sheet exactly as there are many different paths that they can go this summer. However, the Middleton decision is absolutely a domino for them as it could mean the difference between being able to run it back with a new free agent addition or struggling to re-sign Lopez.
TLDR: The Bucks are set to pay into the luxury line for a fourth consecutive season, triggering the repeater tax. It will be expensive, but feasible to bring back their key players from last season. Negotiating a new long term deal with Middleton could open up room to allow them to utilize the tax payer MLE this summer.
So what do you think friends? Do you expect the Bucks to run it back next year? Should they try to sign Middleton to a new deal? Did you get any interesting observations from this exercise? Do your best Jon Horst impression and let me know!

2023.06.04 16:25 Sephiroth508 Need help to plan an October trip

Hello everyone. Me and the wife are planning on a vacation for our anniversary on Oct 15th this year. We had initially planned for Koh Samui for a beach vacation. And later to Vietnam. But a friend of mine told me that October is peak monsoon for Koh Samui. So I thought I'd just do Vietnam (north and central). So I posted to their subreddit to discuss my itinerary. But I was told (and I confirmed after some research) Central Vietnam is even worse during that time as it is flooding season. So we've decided to change the plan to do just Hanoi/Halong and then relax in Bali.
I visited Bali twice now. First time was for a work seminar. So I didn't really get to do anything. Second time was 2017 for a vacation but I caught a strong fever on the flight from KL and again, didn't enjoy anything. I visited Ubud and Kintamani and some other places but because of my meds at that time, I have no memory of these things haha. So I wanted to ask you guys for some help to plan my itinerary. I plan on staying for 3 nights and 4 days. Our main objective is a nice relaxing beach holiday but I'd like to see some of the attractions in between. We are planning on renting a scooter for the trip. I'd also like to do snorkeling and scuba diving and some light watersports.
Which part of the island would you suggest we stay? Which part has good beach resorts that don't cost a kidney (preferably <$100 a night)? We have experience and a license for a scootebike. But how safe is it? What spots would you absolutely recommend for landscape photography and scenic portraits? How's the weather on October?
Thank you to all who take the time to read all that and decide to answer. I appreciate all the comments. 🙏🏼

2023.06.04 16:23 Frog12133 What to pack for beach holiday?

I’ve never been on a holiday before (or to the beach) so I am absolutely clueless here. In 3 weeks we’re going away and I’m not sure what I’ll need apart from the super obvious (sun cream, swim clothes etc).
Im quite pregnant and have a 16 month old who still isn’t walking yet so I’m not sure how that effects things either. We’re in the UK so the weather probably won’t be crazy hot but nice enough. Also travelling by train so trying to pack fairly light.
Please help me lol! What are your beach/holiday essentials with a toddler? And any tips for travelling on a long train ride with a toddler who likes to be constantly on the move?

2023.06.04 16:21 Playful_Succotash_14 Marriage green card: lack of evidence?

Hello everyone, here to ask some questions about marriage green card.
Me and my bf got married this year, however, since he’s in military and been deployed overseas, we don’t share many things together. He just came back from an overseas deployment this March and is currently stationed in Texas. Meanwhile, I work and live in Boston. He’s Bostonian and we get to see each other during holiday or me visiting him.
He’s been living in military dorms for years and is moving out to an apartment near base this month. I have no plans on moving in together because 1. I live and work in Boston and don’t want a small town life on base in TX, 2. He faces another potential overseas deployment in 20 months.
Would not living together under this circumstance be a problem in my GC application? We have wedding pictures, pictures of us together in different scenes and seasons, dating records, travel tickets, ring receipt, life insurance, and medical insurance, affidavit letter, would these be enough? Again, since he’s in military for his whole life and we’re not married for a long time yet, it’s difficult to collect a bunch shared evidence together.
Another question is, since he’s in military and don’t have a flexible schedule, is if better to file my application in TX office? So when time comes, it will be easier for him to go to immigration office in person.

2023.06.04 16:02 BeleagueredTreasurer [UK] Will be getting laid off in the next 6 to 9 months. I am looking for a new Finance role but am having real problems with getting anything that isn't in Accounts Payable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Background:
I am making this post to both ask for some help/advice with finding a new job, and to get everything that's happened over the last fifteen months off my chest, because my experience has honestly been demoralizing to the point where I find myself no longer wanting to work in accountancy.
Recently, my employer announced that it was looking to outsource most of their Finance department and make loads of people redundant. The reasoning isn't necessarily a financial one.
To tell you the truth, this place has honestly been one of the worst employers I've ever worked for and I could be here all day writing a huge list of grievances but I'll summarize. It's a mix of things like low pay, a draconian annual leave policy where a whole 30% of the calendar year is strictly off-limits for booking holiday, abnormally high workloads, awful ERP systems that continually crash, having a massively high employee turnover rate, making loads of desperation hires who can't even do basic things in Excel and expecting me to train them on no additional pay, dangling further progression over me like a carrot on a stick, refusing to fund anything higher than AAT for Accounts Payable staff (when I joined on the basis of my employer offering study support), etc.
Also... on the subject of the desperation hires. I raised burnout issues nine months ago and instead of adopting any suggestions I made to ease my workload, they hired an underqualified replacement, made me take the brunt of training them, then moved me to a different list of suppliers, only to announce that they were hiring an entire small team of people to look after the subledger of suppliers I used to.
This is the fourth Finance role I've worked in and to tell you the truth, I hate working in AP. It's thankless, it reminds me of the days when I was a minimum wage phone monkey, and it feels like an afterthought to many businesses, including my current employer. On top of this I'm sick of being continually pigeonholed into AP roles by every single recruiter I speak to and I feel like nobody else working in finance takes me seriously. Any time I actually go for a position outside of it I get flat-out rejected.
The only two reasons I've stayed as long as I have are because I'm shackled to a lengthy notice period (6 weeks basically makes you unemployable, some people in my department are on worse) and because the redundancy package I'll receive if I stay the full 6 - 9 months before being laid off is generous to the point where it's making me consider whether to halt my job search for now.
My concern isn't necessarily the money. It's that I've worked for 2.5 years in Accounts Payable roles and want to move on to something more relevant to my qualifications. I've also had enough of coming home from work mentally and physically exhausted. My experiences are honestly making me reconsider whether I want to continue working in Finance or move to a different field entirely.
Put it this way, I didn't spend several years studying three levels of AAT and gaining my full accounting technician qualifications so that I could earn less than a warehouse worker...
How do you get out of being typecasted into Accounts Payable?

2023.06.04 16:02 The_Sportsologist Taking a look at the Bucks' cap situation

Hello friends, today I thought it would be fun to take a look at the Milwaukee Bucks' cap sheet and make some general observations about what to expect from them this offseason and moving forward. It's another big offseason for them as they no doubt are looking to improve their core, or at the least keep it together for another run. Let's see what that might look like.
Here is the Bucks' cap sheet heading into the 2023 offseason:
PLAYER 2023-2024 2024-2025 2025-2026
Giannis Antetokounmpo $45,640,084 $48,787,676 $51,935,268

Jevon carter $2,239,943

So as of right now, the Bucks have over 157.8 million committed to 8 players, including Middleton and Carter who have player options. In a scenario where Middleton and Carter pick up their 2023-2024 options, Milwaukee's total salary would be at around 10.8 million over the luxury cap this summer with 6 roster spots to fill out.
